I know Time Machine will make snapshots for system backup. But let's say I have all my media(movies, TV shows, etc..) on a backup drive and I want to periodically sync it to a 2nd external drive. SecondCopy for Windows does exactly that. It will allow you to select whether you want to sync the whole drive, or part of it and will only copy over the newest folders/files.

The program would be a replacement for backup of the drive. I have found tons of windows freeware/shareware versions, but have not found an Mac option.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop got stolen a few weeks ago, i've replaced it with a new MBP, and fortunatley I done a full backup at xmas time, so my computer is just like it was on the 23rd of December 2011. However, my iphone has a ton of new photos, music and playlists on it since that date.
Now I want to keep all these tracks, playlists and photos, but i don't no how to go about it.
If i plug it in to the MBP now, won't itunes back sync and delete all the new stuff?
How do i go about keeping the recent stuff on my iphone?
Perhaps its just me being tired, as it seems there should be simple solutions to both of these problems, but I can't find them.
1) I got a new HD, and had it connected to my MacBook and MacBook Air one at a time to do an initial Time Machine backup. However, now I've connected it to my Time Capsule, and pointed them to the same partitions that they backed up to earlier - and they can't see the older backups. Is it possible to get them to see it and only start an incremental backup?
2) I'm also trying to mirror my iTunes library on the new hard drive, but all the methods I've tried so far (ie a couple of Automator actions and various apps) have either failed, or haven't worked properly (one has added several thousand '..DS_Store' files to the folder which aren't there even when I view hidden files!
i am having a minor problem with TM
i use 1 external tb to back up everything
i back up about 725 gb if stuff and when i go to run my TM it tells me i only have 150 or so GB of space to back up the aforementioned 725gb.
Maybe i misunderstood TM, but cant i back up multiple days without using the same size of backup? i.e. i back up january 1st, december 1st and november 1st and it wont need 2.175 TB of space?
Syncing between two remote Macs?
I have two Macs, one at each of two locations (home-office and business). One is a Mac Pro (2009) and the other is a recent MacMini, both with OS-X 10.6 and similar specifications.
Would like to have both machines seamlessly match so that I can travel between them with no loss of application functionality.
There is only one user, so one Mac will always have the more recent data.
I understand that there are work-arounds, such as just replacing everything with a new laptop. Or physically transporting an external drive, perhaps backed up via SuperDuper or Qdea for example.
But a backup/restore can take a long time (at each end). So, is it possible to do this without a hardware �sneaker-net� solution?
Third-party apps such as ChronoSync and Martian Slingshot would seem to offer some possibilities. But would that work with an Apple Mail database for example?
Obviously, it is the data that needs to be synced, not the apps, but would there be any issues with application licenses (since some Apps look at the machine ID)? And would it be necessary to sync the Library/Application Support files too?
And what about application updates etc?
Cloud solutions such as Dropbox and Mozy are great for smaller files, but some of the databases we use are several Gigs in size, which is way beyond their capability (both in upload time and capacity).
For example, even an iTunes database might have some minor changes each day, which would need to be synced.
i managed to access my exchange account into entourage.
however at the moment i have calendar and contacts twice. once in exchange and once in On my Computer.
how can i sync those 2 with each other?

I figure there would be two ways; it could just copy the Itunes directory which always has things sorted by artist, or it could try and duplicate my playlists as folders. I'd prefer the latter. I would love to listen to it as I run but I can't find it on my iphone. It is checked in itunes and I have it set to sync my entire music library so it should be on there. Any ideas?
If it matters I have changed my email address that I use for my itunes account since then but to my knowledge all of the older music I bought with that account still syncs perfectly fine.
Also it shows up that it is on my iphone when I look at it in itunes but not on the iphone when it is not connected. I watched it sync saying updating that track on the phone too.
can anyone say what the best option is for a program that syncs bookmarks between multiple browsers. One that maybe shows all the bookmarks in a dropdown from the menu bar and possibly free. I tried Bookit, but it doesn't even support firefox.

I have the 3gs. For some reason whenever i sync to itunes, iphoto doesn't pop up. Problem is that i can't get my photos to sync into iphoto. i have the 10.6.3 software which supposedly fixes this problem but it still won't sync.
I just got a new MacBook Pro and transferred all my music/movies/apps onto it. However I haven't synced my phone to it yet.
I'm worried something will go wrong or all my apps will be rearranged which I really don't feel like dealing with right now.

I'm helping a friend setup a new Mac and they're trying to sync contacts from their Windows laptop running Exchange/Outlook. They want to sync the contacts from there to the Mac's Address Book application. Just the contacts...nothing else. They have an iPhone and a MobileMe account. It'd be preferable if the solution was some type of free one. I tried setting up Exchange ActiveSync direct to the Mac Address Book but the Exchange server isn't 2007.
We tried setting up the iPhone with the Exchange ActiveSync and that did sync the contacts. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to bring those contacts from the iPhone to the Mac Address Book. I was thinking of running some kind of plugin (Yahoo or Google?) on Outlook to sync the contacts and then setting up the sync in the Address Book. MobileMe is out as an option there as the MobileMe sync on a PC doesn't work if Outlook is with Exchange.
My ical is not syncing with mobile me account. I anyone else having issues today?

I just bought a MacBook Pro and I would like to set up all these same settings and preferences in Entourage on it. It took me FOREVER to set all these preferences on my iMac and REALLY do not want to have to do it manually again on my new MacBook Pro. Does anyone know how to sync the two Entourage's so that all of these preferences are copied over to my MacBook Pro's version of Entourage?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy boss has a photo server in his office that is at least 111GB in size. He wants all of these images to be in the iPhoto library on seven different computers. Previously, when new images were received from him or his family, they'd be put into the server then manually added to every computer.
What I'm trying to see is possible is to have each computer pull new files from the server automatically whenever new files are added. The reason being, he likes to see all of the server photos as a slideshow for his screen savers. Asinine, I know but that's what he wants.
The previous method has proved a nightmare because there are varying images across all computers and no two libraries are the same. iPhoto isn't great at handling the massive amount of data and I'm always having to Force Quit just to get it to work but I'm being forced into a corner. I have access to five of the seven Macs on a regular basis but if I can just have something do the grunt work for me, I'd be in a much better place. And isn't that what computers are for?

Magic, I thought. However the prefs pane in address book on my system does not have Google listed, only Exchange, Yahoo and MobileMe. How do I get it to add Google to the list? Failing that, are there other methods for syncing gmail contacts with address book?
Syncing Address Book with Numbers is what I am trying to do. This is for customers and if I update something in address book I would like numbers to update when I open the file.

-Plugging in iPhone while not connected to the airport
-Recreating iTunes Library

I keep all my iTunes files (podcasts, audio, video, etc.) on my main Windows 7 desktop. I just got a Macbook Pro and so far I've been using the sharing feature in iTunes to listen to my music on the MacBook. I've just set up file sharing on my windows 7 pc and now I'm able to see all the actual files on my MB. I was wondering if there was any way that I could just point my MacBook to the same directory that my windows 7 pc uses for iTunes and have the SAME library file on each computer. when I make changes, add songs, etc, to either computer, the library files would sync (update) the new information and I'd basically have an exact replica on either computer. Of course I realize that this would mean that my Windows 7 desktop would basically be the host for all these files and would have to remain online which is no problem. And I realize that I'd only be able to have one iTunes open at a time, which again is no problem. So basically I'm just wondering if there are any programs that could allow me to do this? I've seen programs that copy all the files from each computer and have them in sync that way, but like I mentioned, I don't want the actual files on my macbook. The windows 7 will be the host. I just want to sync my library files so I can make changes on either computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedInstalled iTunes 9.2 and now get an error message at end of synch saying the iPhone can't synch because the file can't be found. The issue is limited to photos checked to synch from my Aperture 3.03 library. Those photos have been removed from the iPhone leaving only the photos taken on the iPhone and stored in the 'film roll'. All photos synched from Aperture were removed and won't reload. The Photo tab shows the Aperture app is checked and should synch.
I have repaired permissions and rebooted the iMac. Same issue continues after all this.

Just got an iPhone 4, is it possible to use my PC to sync most of my stuff, then plug it into my Macbook and sync only my photos and videos and nothing else?
This should be easy, brand new SL install and an existing gmail account. I have the email configured. Have calendar configured and syncing. But contacts, when I set up syncing in Address book, nothing syncs. When I exit Address Book and reenter, the option to sync with Google is no longer checked. I re-enable it and it does the same all over again. When I try the process with another account, it works like a charm. So what does that mean? How can I "fix" the gmail account in question to get it syncing?

On iCal I have two headings, 'On my Mac', and 'MobileMe'. Any calendar that is created under 'On my Mac', will not sync with mobileme, and is not in the cloud. I find this odd and I can't seem to figure out the problem. Any idea why this might be?
