Is there any way to stop and start Growl depending on if you're running a fullscreen game or playing video? I've tried doing a few searches on it but I can't find anything related to this topic. Does Growl already do this natively? I actually haven't quite had a situation where Adium Growl notifications interrupt my gaming but I think it could happen?
View 1 RepliesI'm sure most of you use Growl. Well I left my MacBook Pro on all night uploading some junk and when I went to it this morning it was doggggg slow, the dock refresh was tearing, it was horrid. So I opened the activity monitor and Growl was taking up 3.4 GIGS of virtual memory.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just switched my settings in Mail so that I'm now checking my Gmail accounts using IMAP rather than POP. This has gone smoothly save for one thing: Growl now notifies me of every piece of Spam that comes into the Spam folder on the server. Is there any way to adjust this?
Likewise, Growl also notifies me about anything new message on the server, whether it's an e-mail I have sent (added to the server-side Sent Messages folder) and also takes to notifiying me two, three, or even more times for a single message (because it comes into the All Mail folder on the server and then into my client-side mailbox in Mail)
Just an FYI, CS5 will install Growl automatically and start it. Yet the only app that it lists in the Growl config for Adobe is the Adobe Application Manager?
View 24 Replies View Relateda dim bloke get his system up and running properly again. I've got Mac G4, running OS10.4.11 The poor ol thing is running horribly slowly now. Looking at "activity monitor" I can see that "kernel_task" is using up 95% CPU when I have no apps running. So what can I do to bring the ol Mac back into the land of the living? Please please please remember I'm now into unfamiliar territory and don't understand any computer type jargon.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSince I installed Snow Leopard I have an annoying bug when I have Growl and Firefox installed. When I start up Firefox, the windows isn't on focus (window is kind of in the background). On Leopard I started Firefox and immeditatly I could press cmd+L to write the homepages. With SL I need to click first into the Firefox window because it wasn't on focus after starting up. This weird behaviour only appears when I have Growl installed, if i deactivate Growl, Firefox starts on focus, but since I need Firefox AND Growl, this annoys me a lot..
Could anybody of you who also uses SL, Firefox and Growl test if the Firefox window is on focus after starting the app, ? I tried it on 3 different Macs and all of them have the same bug. :-( I already wrote to the Growl and the Firefox team, but until now both of them say it's the other apps fault...

I have 10.6.4 with the latest version of Mail and GrowlMail. Sometimes, it decides to show me the notifications and sometimes it doesn't.
I've already checked to see if I enabled the settings correctly in Syst.Pre/Growl and Mail preference as well.

Strangely, I can't see any of the images being played and it's just a blank white square in the middle of the fully blacked out screen. What do I press to get this to stop and the program to close?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHave a PC hooked up to a Pioneer plasma here, and it's basically used to loop trailers in my video-store. The PC is running Windows 2003, and I thought iTunes is probably perfect for this as all the trailers I use are the 720p ones from Apple's servers. So I connect to the PC with VNC (no mouse or keyboard attached), start up iTunes, start the playlist with the videos and they start running fullscreen. But whenever I close the VNC connection the video window disappears from the Pioneer and I just get the desktop + iTunes. The videos are still running though, as the sound is playing and iTunes say they're running, but the video is completely gone.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn a previous contact software program I have used for years, the first letter of names, streets, and cities, were automatically capitalized as I typed them in. Unfortunately, that software does not work under Lion and the developer is out of business. Because of that, I am trying to convert to Address Book. I can't find the ability to have that same thing happen in Address Book. Is there something I can turn on in Preferences or some other obscure window? My old contact software also automatically filled in cities, names, or states that I previously entered. Great time saver but doesn't seem to exist in Address Book.

I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.Â
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson. Â
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.Â
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.Â

I just installed Growl ( using it with Evernote ) and noticed it has Speech announcements ( rather then the little box that pops up on screen) Is there a way to some how set it to where when my iCal appts or reminders pop up on screen from iCal to have it go thru Growl or something? So that way i can get speech reminders? I am new to Mac so not sure how anything really works but i did search a little on Google and i think it can be done, just dont technically know how...

View 7 Replies View RelatedSince adding Growl 1.2 (no problem with earlier versions) I continually get a pop-up error message entitled "iDisk Error" that states "There is a problem syncing the file 'Growl.prefPane'. The destination (iDisk) does not support symlinks. Try compressing the file or folder first." I went to the Growl forum for help and was told that Growl doesn't use symlinks and that therefore the problem must be with MacOSX and/or File Sync or some configuration on my system. I'm using a late 2008 MacBook Pro, with max RAM and MacOSX 10.6.1. My only alternative right now seems to be to uninstall Growl.

I've decided that I prefer not to use Adium so I dragged the application from my Applications folder to the Trash. My question is how do I remove Growl from my system? The icon is still showing up in System Preferences. This is one caveat I have over Windows. Apple should make an uninstaller to completely remove all necessary components.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI've had my i7 iMac for months now, and it's acted perfectly with no hassles or quirks at all-- until the past couple weeks after I installed 4gb of kingston ram.
The problem occurs whenever I enter fullscreen mode with flash programs-- rather it be fullscreening a youtube video or a livestream. It's more of a 2-3 second freeze, rather than a full-scale freeze. After the freeze, the computer acts normal again, but iStat menus shows one of the lynnfield's processing cores to have a sudden spike in usage for that small period of time (a spike that reaches to the top of that specific core's capacity)
It's not an everytime type of deal, and I only get it maybe once every other day, but it seems to be happening after installing the additional ram. System Profiler has the ram as running fine, and repairing disk permissions doesn't do any help either. I highly doubt it has anything to do with the SMC or PRAM either.
My screen went to Full Screen and removed the bar across the top and I don't know how to get it back. I'm on a Mac and not on an iPad.

In Mac Safari 5.0.6 the fullscreen button has stopped working for some YouTube videos (which it has previously worked for). I click the button and nothing happens... as if it wasn't even clicked. This only happens on some videos though... not all of them.And the ones that do not work in Safari do work in Firefox.
