View 3 RepliesI made no password for my iPhone backup, and when I went to restore, it told me I needed a password.

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1
I had to reset my iPad due to the home button issue (this by the way seems to be a hardware issue since it did not dissapear after the reset :-( )
Unfortunately iTunes created a new back-up of my iPad at the end of this reset procedure (i.e. it is a back-up of an empty ipad).
Now I would like to re-install and configure my iPad based on a back-up couple weeks ago.
If I open Time Machine, what do I need to do find and use this particular older iPad-back-up for reinstalling my ipad?

I'm looking for an app that will allow me to specify which folders I want to copy to my external drive, updating existing files within it and copying new ones.
I don't want to backup settings, my whole harddrive nor make a bootable backup. Just something to backup what I want to backup and where.
Not sure if Time Machine can do that, but it wants me to reformat my external before I can even find out..and considering how much is on there, I really don't want to have to remove that all elsewhere while doing so. [Don't think I could anyway, none of my internal drives have that much space.]
So, does anyone know of a relatively painless backup app that could do simply what I want? Doesn't sound all that complicated in comparison to some of the more convoluted backup apps I keep finding.
Yesterday, I had to re-format my external hard drive so that it could be "recordable" within Pro Tools, which wasn't a major issue, I just had to move everything from my Lacie drive to another drive, do the format, and then throw it all back on. It took a little while but this also included moving my nearly 60gb itunes library. Now that it is on the newly formatted hard drive, itunes doesn't seem to be able to find the majority of the songs any more. I've tried changing the music folder and a few other things, and there is no way I'm going through and doing the "cant find music - click here to find it" palava. Is anyone aware of a way that you can "mass find" all of the music in any way other than starting the library again and adding all the music (I don't really want to lose all of my play counts and ratings if possible!)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got my Mac back from a repair at the Apple Store. I was very excited to have everything back. However, Time Machine cannot back up! The error given is that the backup volume "cannot be found."
I've tried rebooting, remounting the drive and doing checks on it. Everything checks out. I can even write and read to and from the backup volume just fine via Finder. The only issue is that Time Machine can't. What's the problem? How do I fix it?
Attached is a screenshot of my Finder window next to the Time Machine Sys Prefs window.
Whats the best way to back up my music? Time machine seems to just default to backing up my preferences and some data. I cannot get it to add my music to the backup.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have spent a whole week importing songs from my external hdd to Itunes (ordering, adding album art, deleting double songs etc.) Almost 230 GB on music! Since I have a 500 GB hdd, I decided to deselect 'copy files to Itunes media folder' under preferences. I have a backup on my external hdd and I didn't know for sure if I would get the songs double (one in Itunes library and one in Itunes music folder, so taking up more space. I assumed that I could do this, since I read in 'Itunes help' that I could also deselect this option if you have your files stored on an external hdd.
While I was doing that my external hdd was connected to my laptop all the time. Today I finally finish the job, deconnected the hdd and found out that Itunes can't find any of my songs back! Only when I connect the external hdd to my laptop I can play the music. Is there a way to solve this problem or do I need to do it all over again while making a copy from my files to Itunes media folder? Since Itunes couldn't find any of my songs, I assume that for examply a 100 mb album will take up 100 mb on my hdd on my laptop and not 200MB?
Then there's a second problem: I deleted one of the albums in Itunes and imported the album again, but this time I selected the checkbox 'copy to itunes mediafolder when adding to library'. But now my songs are showing up double! One has the extension mp3 and the other one 1.mp3 When I go to Itunes mediafolder they show up there twice, so they don't show up in two separate folders. If I need to import all the songs again and delete the doubles manually it will take me ages
I just wiped out my xp machine and installed win7. I back everything up and iTunes was put back on and I dumped all my data back on for it. I have a mix of music from cd's and music from iTunes (purchased). I have my music all in the music folder but it's all mixed up and I can't tell which songs are actually being used in iTunes if that makes sense. So to help things, I told iTunes to copy the file into it's own folders. Then I told it to do the new folder structure, music, movies, ringtones, etc. Anyways, it seems all is well, however I can't tell which files are purchased and which are not.
If I drag a music file into iTunes, will it copy that file into iTunes and organize it? What happens if a copy already exists, will there be duplicates now? What is the best way to organize all this so I don't go insane and can clean up the mess. I am thinking of copying my backup back over to undo the recent "organization" and go from there.
I go to view and i don't see no show equalizer option. I would like to know where i can find the equalizer since i would like to change the settings.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to backup my itunes library, but it says that I need to install a blank disk. Is there a way to backup the library to an external harddrive instead?
EDIT: I tried this... please tell me if this was the correct thing to do. I basically just went to Finder > Music > iTunes and dragged that whole "iTunes" folder to my external harddrive that was plugged in... and its copying it now
I try to backup all my tracks purchased on iTunes, but the Back Up button does not work (see image). When I press it, nothing happens. Same for the Cancel button. iTunes does not 'hang' though, because I can close the dialog with the cross mark in the upper right corner, and I can choose other combinations in the dialog (which I do not really want). Does anybody have the same issue? I'm using Windows XP (SP3) with the latest version of iTunes (9.0.1.8). I am able to burn DVD's using other software so that should not be the problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn iTunes I manage my music manually. Sometimes I need to change a song's file name because something was spelled incorrectly. To change a song's file name I rename it in Finder. iTunes is running the background. Now here's the catch: After renaming a file I check whether iTunes detected its new location (CMD+I for "Get Info"). Mostly iTunes DOES recognize the new file path, but sometimes it doesn't. What helps iTunes detecting the new location? I really can't see a pattern in iTunes' behavior.
View 11 Replies View RelatedGot my iTunes Library reading from an external USB drive. Nothing has changed in months. Though just recently, for 90% of my songs - iTunes can't locate them. I checked the directory where they've always been and they're still there. External drive is alive and kicking, connected to my Macbook. This sucks because I've got a gajillion playlists. And my iPhone and iPad will no longer sync these playlists. I'd really hate to manually have to re-do all of my playlists again.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there was any good software out these days to backup blu-ray discs into an itunes compatible HD format. I finally started buying some blu-ray titles and want to be able to have a compact backup in itunes and view them while traveling with my MacBook. I would already be fine with a Windows solution since I use bootcamp for DVD backup anyways.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know how do i back up my mp3's from itunes library, I currently have 12.83 GB worth of songs. Do I use a external hd or is a flash drive good enough? Just in case when the world ends in 2012 and all the computers fail ill still have my music with me
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using a MacBook running 10.6.2 with iTunes 9.2 and an iPhone 3G. I just did an erase and install of the OS on the MacBook and am working on restoring things from my Time Capsule backup. In order to get my iTunes back the way it was so I don't have to start all over, what do I need to copy over?
So far, I've copied the following:
~/Music
~/Library/iTunes
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync
Are there any other directories / files that need to be copied over? I'm trying to avoid having to set up my phone, playlists, genius info, etc all from scratch. Do I also need to copy the iTunes application itself from the backup or should I be able to use the fresh one installed from Software Update? They are both iTunes 9.2.
Looks like in syncing my iPad, it tries to place the backup of my device in MobileSyncBackup on my C boot drive, which is an SSD without space, even when my iTunes install and iTunes library folder is in my 2 TB D drive.
Is there any way to permanently make iTunes place its backup elsewhere?
I noticed that whenever I open itunes store within the Itunes application I only get the App store, podcasts and itunes U. I cant find any music or video files in the store. I removed itunes and all associated files according to instructions in the following URL
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224.
I reinstalled the latest version and that didn't solve the problem. I am using an Imac and OS 10.6.5. My Itunes version is 10.1.1.
the only solution i've found that works is i have to re download itunes everytime to make the restore or upgrading my iphone work, i've tryed the recovery mode and the dfu mode itunes just sits there after the final loading process, so my question is is there a way i can get it working back to normal without having to re downloading itunes.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have some concert DVDs I put on my iPod and I switched the video kind (in info, under the video tab) from movie to music video. Problem is, now I can't find those concerts on iTunes, I can still view them on the iPod, but I can't find access to them through iTunes to edit info/delete them if I want to. Can anyone help me in finding them on iTunes?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Apple TV with Airtunes enabled. But apparently, it's not possible to connect to it from PC's who are connected to LAN with cable instead of WiFi? Does anyone know why? More details, I have 3 PC's:
PC 1: , Windows 7 64-bit with iTunes 9.1.1.12 (latest)
Stationary, connected to LAN using cable in a Gigabit switch
PC 2: 100% fresh install of Windows 7 32-bit and iTunes 9.1.1.12
Stationary, connected to LAN using cable in a Gigabit switch
PC 3: Win 7 32-bit with iTunes 9.1.1.12
Netbook - connected through WiFi
Apple TV device (latest firmware) is connected to same LAN using cable as well. All PC's can ping the Apple TV without problems. So the problem is that iTunes doesn't find the Airtunes device (the output dropdown selector doesn't show up). I first tried on my main PC (PC1). It didn't work, so I tested on PC2 (which is a fresh install of both OS and iTunes!), but same problem there. But then the weird thing happened. I tried to install on my netbook, and it worked!
Only difference is that the netbook was connected through WiFi. I don't see why that would matter, but just for fun i tested to disconnect WiFi, and connect with cable and boom - airtunes selection disappeared! As soon as I disconnected the cable and reconnected WiFi, it appeared again. Why on earth would Airtunes only work on WiFi? As you can see on the attached screenshot, network configuration is equal on WiFi and cabled connection.
I'm subscribed to about 10 differet podcasts, and I just realised that there hasn't been a new episode of any of them in a while. I right clicked them all in turn, and chose Update Podcast, and lo and behold, a whole slew of episodes started downloading. For some of them there are even more than 1 episode that hasn't downloaded. Can anyone tell me why iTunes doesn't automatically download new episodes of these subscribed podcasts? iTunes is set to check everyday for new episodes, but simply seems to have not bothered! This has happened a few times before too.
EDIT - From iTunes saying that there are no new episodes of any of my subscribed to podcasts, I've ended up with 20 downloads after manually checking.
I can't find the option in iTunes, and I've searched this in the forums and surprisingly, no one else has asked the question yet, but is it possible to play podcasts at 2X speed through iTunes, or is it only possible to do that on my touch? Thanks for any help.

When I was setting up the MBP, I opted to restore from a Time Machine backup and expected everything to go off without a hitch.
When I opened iTunes though, everything was blank -- no songs or videos were listed at all. My playlists were still there though but also blank.
When I checked my Music folder in Finder, everything was still there so I tried manually adding one mp3 to see if it would show up on iTunes. iTunes just played the mp3 but it still wouldn't show up in the Music list.
Can I backup my Itunes library to a network hard drive?
