MacBook Pro :: Superdrive Keeps Ejecting Cd/dvds?
Sep 19, 2010I own a macbook pro, mid 2009 and its superdrive was working fine till 3 days ago. Now, whenever I try to insert a CD or DVD, the drive doesn't read it at all and after 2'' it ejects it. I tried reseting SMC and PRAM with no luck. I also tried that "batmac" trick [hold the mac upside down] with no luck either except my neck is now damaged too..
So, two questions:
1)What could the damage be? It's not a lens thing since it doesn't even try to read the cddvd.
2)My warranty is no longer valid [expired 1 month ago..]. How much would it cost to replace it? I live in Greece and no Apple Store exists here yet. I must take it to my provider [authorized reseller], check it [don't know how much this is going to cost either] and have it replaced.
PowerPC :: G5 Powermac Ejecting Burned DVDs
Feb 21, 2007I made backup copies of a few games in Toast 8 and wanted to test them out. Whenever i put them in, it tries to mount, then it ejects. The disks work fine on my MacBook but for some reason wont mount on the powermac.

May 13, 2012I've been having problems with my iMac recently, more precisely with my DVD drive. I think it's a software problem, and no mechanical problem. Let me explain:
When I insert a DVD:
- it will sometimes work perfectly. I can read, burn or whatever I feel like…
- it will sometimes not work. I don't know why, but the drive gives a few try (mechanical noises), and than ejects the DVD. If I try a few more times to reinsert it, it will sometimes just keep the DVD and not eject it, without recognizing it. When I try to open the Disk Utility program, it will simply froze. Or it will open after 5 minutes, but the DVD player will not exist and not appear.
I need to restart the computer. Sometimes it will work after the restart. Sometimes not. It's really random, and I haven't found out on what it depends… Sometimes, when I reboot it because of a trapped-unrecognized DVD, the DVD player will not open. "Initialization error [-70012]"…
I've tried Option-Cmd-P-R at the Start, but it didn't help… I feel like there's something wrong with the software.
It's a 2 years old iMac, using Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.8).
I've tried looking on the net, but a lot of people are experiencing mechanical problems (it simply never works), which I think is not the case here (it does randomly work perfectly).

Sep 3, 2010my iMac ejects blank discs when I try to burn music in Tunes or when I insert a music CD to play it.The disc spins around for about 15 seconds, then it gets ejected. I made sure the surface of the discs were clean and that I was burning from a "playlist," all to no avail. I was successful at playing a movie in iDVD, though, so I'm baffled.

Jan 26, 2010My first post and am gutted to say I have a tech problem! I put a cd-rom into my iMac the other day and it didn't mount (ie no little disc symbol on the screen) and I can't eject it. I can hear the disc drive constantly trying to read the disc and then trying to eject it. It is as if the disc is slightly blocked as it tries to eject but then gives up and sucks it back into the drive and tries (unsuccessfully) to read it.any ideas anyone? I am a techno-plonker so please offer advice in simple terms!!

IMac :: Unable To Rip DVDs
Nov 22, 2010So I recently installed my 120gb OCZ Agility 2 SSD into my superdrive bay and using a USB DVD drive but here are my issues, I can't rip a full dvd in Handbrake (it will rip up to 25 minutes and tell me its complete) and I can't play DVDs using the DVD player program. Was there a different way to format the SSD and relocating the home folder to the original 1TB drive?

Jan 19, 2009I recently came back from a holiday to find that my CD/DVD drive on my intel iMac has stopped working properly. If i put any sort of CD or DVD in the slot in makes a few sounds a just pops it back out about 3 seconds later.
Any ideas on what i could try to get it working again. Maybe reinstalling firmware or something.

Dec 19, 2009Whenever I insert a blank DVD there's a long pause and it spits it out again, nearly every time. There's no dialog, no message, no reaction from the OS of any kind.
On the rare occasions when it accepts a disk, everything after that is fine. I can burn DVDs no problem. The DVDs are a variety of different types (all DVD-R), from reliable brands.
I've tried rebooting, changing the settings in System Preferences, quitting all applications except the Finder, but nothing has made any difference.

Mar 26, 2012I have an iMac intel core 2 duo late 2006. I have upgraded it to snow leopard. From two months ago, it began to show distorted pictures, random lines/pixels/, and regular freezing. But if I boot it into the safe mode, it works well, although there is no sound or webcam. I did a research online and it seems that I should run apple hardware test (AHT) first. But the DVDs came with this machines have been lost. where can I download this software?

IMac ::success Writing DL DVDs / Reduce Speed To 2x Writing?
Jun 5, 2010I've made two coasters today on my iMac 27" core i7.
I am using Verbatim DVD +R DL blanks and utilized Disk Utility to make one coaster (copy to a .CDR and then burned) and then used Toast 10 to write IFO files.
The DVD will "run" but looks and sounds like a satellite tv signal in bad weather - choppy all over the place. This happens on 4 players - two separate laptops, an xbox 360, and even the original iMac 27" I used to write the DVDs.
I have had no problems whatsoever writing single layer DVDs (even using old Comp USA blanks!) and playing them on aforementioned players.
Anybody have any success writing DL DVDs? If so, what brand of disc did you use? Did you reduce speed to 2x writing? Help - I don't want to create any more coasters!
OS X :: Why Key Dedicated Just To Ejecting CD
Jan 23, 2009Why does the eject key only work for whatever's in the SuperDrive? I mean really, a key dedicated just to ejecting a CD? How does that make sense? I eject my iPhone 10x as much as I eject something out of the SuperDrive. What I think they should do is have the eject key bring up a menu of all drives that can be ejected, along with an eject all option. It's a huge pain going to the Finder, ejecting my externals, then going to iTunes to eject the iPod and iPhone.

Jun 26, 2008I've noticed some weird behavior with the Superdrive on my MacBook Pro recently.
My system is
MacBook Pro 2.2GHZ Intel Core2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 200 GB HDD
it's about six months old but gets a *lot* of use.
I notice that the superdrive will sometimes randomly eject a DVD drive after it has been inserted. Last week it took me up to 10 minutes to insert a DVD - I had to keep trying to reinsert it, then I finally rebooted a couple of times and it eventually worked. Sometimes when I bring my laptop back from sleep it ejects the DVD for no reason. I also notice that sometimes when playing a DVD, it will freeze up in full screen mode. I have to hit the power button and reboot as the laptop is completely frozen at this point - this has happened a couple of times in the past few weeks, I think it's related to the random ejects.
Software :: Ejecting DVD If All Else Fails
Mar 3, 2006I was absolutely relieved, after many painful minutes of troubleshooting, to find in Mac OS Help the section titled "Ejecting a DVD if All Else Fails." I'd never heard of this procedure before, but it sure saved my skin. This is what you do:
1. Hold down the keys Command + Option + O + F while restarting your computer
2. You will be prompted with a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware" instead of the normal Mac OS screen.
3. Type "eject CD" without quotes.
4. CD will eject and the screen will then say "OK."
5. Type "mac-boot" without quotes to finish booting Mac OS and return to your usual startup screen.
You're done and the CD/DVD has been successfully ejected. The above method was the only thing that saved me. I tried everything--and I do mean everything. The darn DVD would NOT eject. So, if any of you are ever in the same boat, now you know what to do. Just thought I'd share this will you all. What could've caused the DVD to get stuck in my iBook? The specific DVD was the Sims 2 DVD game. I bought it used and it was the first time I put it in my computer. After I finally got it to eject by using the aforementioned method, I re-inserted the DVD to see if it would work--and it worked fine. Ejected by simply pressing the Eject key on my keyboard, no problem! What do you think happened that first time? Oh, and if this helps, every time I tried to eject it, I got a message saying that it was in use and could not be ejected. It was not in use, trust me. I waited a long time and the DVD had stopped spinning and the game was long quit.

Dec 28, 2007Is there any harm in just unplugging USB without first ejecting drive? I've got external HD at work I plug in via USB to my Macbook Pro. When I go home I get lazy and would like to just unplug. Is there not a more automated way other than manually ejecting drive before removing cable?
