IMac :: Disc Not Mounting/ejecting?

My first post and am gutted to say I have a tech problem! I put a cd-rom into my iMac the other day and it didn't mount (ie no little disc symbol on the screen) and I can't eject it. I can hear the disc drive constantly trying to read the disc and then trying to eject it. It is as if the disc is slightly blocked as it tries to eject but then gives up and sucks it back into the drive and tries (unsuccessfully) to read it.any ideas anyone? I am a techno-plonker so please offer advice in simple terms!!

my iMac ejects blank discs when I try to burn music in Tunes or when I insert a music CD to play it.The disc spins around for about 15 seconds, then it gets ejected. I made sure the surface of the discs were clean and that I was burning from a "playlist," all to no avail. I was successful at playing a movie in iDVD, though, so I'm baffled.

I have inserted a data DVV with 3 QT video files on it, roughly 1 GB each. It took a long time to mount, and then when trying to copy a QT file to the desktop it started but aborted giving an error message. Playing the the .mov file from the DVD itself was very slow and juddery.Â
Having given up I now can't even eject the DVD. Force quiting and restarting has resulted in the DVD not mounting. Launching Disk Utility juts gives me the dreaded rainbow wheel..Â
How can I eject the DVD?Â

I bought a Mac OSX 10.6.3 Snow Leopard CD (Family Pack) to upgrade on my Macbook Pro, but it won't boot. There are sound like it was running but it reject in the end. My Macbook Pro is Intel Core Duo 2GHz with 2GB Ram. It is currently running OSX 10.5.8. I tried the disc on other Macbook running 10.6.6 purchased 2-3 years ago and it work. So I don't really know what happen with mine. My DVD drive work fine though.

I recently downloaded Transmission, and whenever I open the program, the disc image mounts on the desktop. I can't eject it until I quit the program, and then it always pops back up when I reopen the program.

I have a MacBook (unsure if the G3/4/5 rating still applies) - I can give you the technical specs if it'll help but I don't think it will, as my problem lies with the DVD drive. Whenever I lift the lid on my Mac, it automatically searches and attempts to mount the disc drive. 98% of the time there's not a disc in it, so it's a waste of time, power and effort. stop it looking for discs on waking?

(If this is better in the Audio forum, moderators, feel free to move it; it's not exactly about music production, so I thought here would be better.)
I'm looking to archive all my old audio CDs as exact disc images which I can mount and rerip with iTunes when needed.
Disk Utility in Snow Leopard won't create images of Audio CDs.
Roxio Toast can rip bin/cue images, but they can't seem to be mounted easily, and Toast is much slower to rip them than I expected. It also has its own proprietary image format, but that's not a good long-term archive solution.
Disco is abandonware and hasn't been updated for Snow Leopard.

I don't know why but it keeps ejecting it on boot.It installed fine on my Macbook Pro but Mac Pro keeps ejecting itIs there a step I'm missing out on?This isn't bootcamped. I've had Vista 64 on the harddrive by itself before and now I'm trying put 7 on it. I insert the disc, reboot the computer, and it just keeps rejecting it. I really want to do a fresh install on this computer. What do I do?

G4 IMac, 10.4. I have a simpletech 1 tbite hard drive that does not mount almost always on my machine. I just brought it home from a friends where it does show up instantly. Ran disc utility for permissions on my imac, swapped cords. Power on before boot up, power on after, unplug firewire, etc., nothing works. I want to install OS X 10.4 on the drive to try & boot up my powerbook (panic kernel message there).

I want to buy the 27" iMac, but for various reasons - most importantly height - I need to have it hang off a Vesa mount arm that will swing over my desk. Unfortunately, I need the screen to be fairly low, and the iMac stand would be in the way. MY QUESTION: is the stand on the iMac detachable, or not? When you mount it, do you simply have the stand hang below... seems ugly. Also, what is a good arm that would attach to a wall and extend at least 3 feet? TIA!

G5 iMac model A1058, 1.8/512mb/160gb.Bought this machine used on e-bay with no operating system, powers on fine, flashing folder with question mark= no operating system. Tried to connect to my i-book in target disk mode via fire wire and the hard drive does not mount on the desktop. Can't find it in disk utilities however i get this in system profiler under firewire.

I'm using a 20" white intel iMac and cannot manage to remove a linux boot disc from the optical drive.At first, the only way that i managed to boot to the linux disc in the first place was from the Startup Disk menu in OSX. I could not even get to the Startup Manager ('opt' at boot) or boot straight to the disc ('C').Now i'm in a position where no matter what i do, the system boots to the linux disc. I cannot even force the startup into OSX to try to eject the disc from there. I've tried holding all of these keys/combinations at startup

When I try inserting blank (brand-new) CD+ or CD- and DVD+ or DVD- discs, the slot-drive seems to accept the disc just fine. But then. I hear 2 short "whirrs", nothing for about 10 seconds, 2 short "whirrs", nothing for about 10 seconds, 2 short "whirrs", then the disc is ejected.I have experimented w/different discs & get the same results each time: drive accepts the disc for about 30 seconds, never mounts it on desktop, then ejects it.

Sometimes when i put a disc in the imac it won't recognize it. When it does this I can't eject it or anything. I have to restart the machine. It does this on cdr's, dvd's or install discs. What causes this? Everything else is perfect so I hesitate to take it in.

My iMac is currently having the problem that it gets stuck at the apple logo whenever I start it up. I posted about this problem in another thread but now I have a new question. In my iMac there is a disc, and i need this disc as soon as possible. Since its stuck at the apple logo i can't seem to be able to eject the disc by just pressing the eject button on my apple keyboard. I don't want to have ago at my iMac with a knife or credit card in order to get it out, so does anybody know a way to make my iMac eject this disc? Someone told me about holding my mouse while booting. Does this mean i have to hold down my mouse button while starting it up?

I created a DVD+R disc on my new Mini that has some Mac apps. Now that my new iMac is here, I am trying to read the disc on my iMac but the iMac just spits it back out. It never shows up on the desktop. Other discs such as the reload discs work. I can put it in the Mini again and it shows up. Anyone seen this and know how to share discs between the Mini and the iMac?

The last time I used my imac I had a picture disc in it and shut it down properly. Now it will not boot up. I get the screen with the apple and the turning wheel and nothing past that. A disc is stuck as well. Any ideas on either, to get me my computer back?

When I play a DVD movie, everything is fine for about an hour and then the drive says that it cannot "Read the Disc". I have had the problem with 6 different DVD's so I don't think the media is the problem.

I just bought a LG BP06 Blu External Blu Ray Player - I wan't to move my Blu Rau Movies to my Imac. How the Heck do I do it ?  The Imac sees the external hard drive ( Identified as Logical Volume ) , I can see the files on the Blu Ray disk .. BUT, what software is out there as a player / copier that can copy these movies to my computer. I don't want to buy them again on Itunes !

My preferences on occasion will not open. this happens frequently and some times I reboot ore hn once. Using snow leopard 10.6.4. How do clear this up?? I have used disk verify and still no luck. Is there a way to install snow leopard without disturbing rest of system.
