My computer was stuck doing an update. I shut it off. When I started it later, it was stuck on start up. 8 hours later I threw in the os disk and now I have that stuck in there also.

I recently installed the iTunes update plus 3 others that were in the list (don't remember what they were). After they installed, it said that a restart was necessary. I let it restart and when it came back the "beach ball" was spinning. The hockey game was about to start so I went off to watch the first period. When I returned the beach ball was still spinning. Thinking that there was no way it could take that long, I went ahead and shut down the iMac. I waited about 30 seconds and then turned it back on. It started normally and did not seem to have any problems.
Is there something else I should have done? How long should it take the iMac to restart after a software update?
While updating my imac, I got an error message saying that there is an error. And then it restarted by itself. Now its stuck on the loading screen.

I just confirmed it myself. I had a myriad of colorful "blobs" all over my iSight. I only noticed them really when I put my hand over the iSight so the image was BLACK. But, like the patch notes said, this update fixes them! They are ALL GONE. So for people complaining about stuck/dead pixels etc with your iSight, update to 10.6.3! I'm guessing the update maps them out, somehow. Very cool stuff.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy old iMac desktop with Tiger OS installed crashed. I couldn't reboot. I tried the Hardware checkout I got with my MacBook and everything passed. I tried to start-up from the Tiger install disk--but couldn't. So, I went to my old 9.2 OS install disk and was able to startup. Problem is that it didn't let me do anything. I couldn't see my hard drive or attempt any kind of repair. I also can now not eject the system disk. What do I do to first get the 9.2 OS install disk out of my computer and then how do I retrieve my system? I thought I would try rebooting from my MacBook OS X install disk, which I probably should have tried before the 9.2 OS.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy iMac ran a software update last night, but the program kicked out before it completed. When I went to reboot this morning, I had the Mac icon on a grey screen, with a little line rolling around in a circle below it. It's been hung up there all day.
I've read in other posts that I should do a clean install of the system software. Problem is, my hard drive is absolutely packed and the computer is telling me that I don't have enough space to do even a baisc installation without all the bells and whistles. Because the machine won't boot, I can't get into the drive to transfer or delete any files in order to create the necessary space for the installation.
This is my first mac, I installed the 10.6.4 update the other day and restarted, since then it has been on or sleeping. I just shut it down and turned it on again and it's asking for my password. Each time I enter it goes to load and then comes back to the log in screen. I know I have the write password because it's a simple 4 digit one that I use for my bank account and if I enter anything else the box shakes and asks me to re-enter it. How do I log in?

I got a 1 TB Western Digital external last night and had left it on all night so that Time Machine could back me up a few times. Then this morning, I had disconnected the drive and decided that I ought to update to 10.5.8 because Software update had told me to the day before. So I did, and I walked out of the room after it started installing the update. Then I walked back in when I first heard the startup chime and the fans were running at 6000 rpm and the screen showed the Apple and the daisy wheel. It proceeded to turn itself off, and repeat the process, always getting stuck at the Apple logo screen. So I tried booting it up in safe mode, but nothing changed; it never got past the apple screen. Then I booted from the install disc and used disk utility to verify the disk and repair the disk permissions. I tried starting it up a couple of times after that and nothing had changed. So I booted from the install disc again and was going to reinstall Leopard, but I decided to restore from one of the pre-10.5.8 Time Machine Backups.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an older but babied 2008ish Macbook Pro. Today upgraded my 3GS to os 4 with no problem. I downloaded a couple things but didn't go crazy today. I left work and shut lid. When I got home it was stuck on the screen saver password for a long time. I turned off the unit and now it just boots to a white screen. I can boot via OSX disc but it also doesn't see HD. This is a 500gb Seagate drive and I'm screwed if it's dead. Any suggestions to at least get to my bootcamp partition?

I just tried to update my 2008 Macbook from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Install went fine but all of the sudden I got an error message, accompanied big yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark telling me that the install has failed without any further info. I rebooted and Snow Leopard was trying to install again. I thought 'why not' and continued. Then, when I had to pick a disk to install on, my Macbook harddrive couldn't be found. I thought 'screw this I'll stick to Leopard' and rebooted. After that it just stuck on the grey screen with the Apple and the loading animation. How I can fix this or at least save my files?

I just literally updated my macbook pro to the latest version of Lion, today 4/3/12 and now it's just stuck on the main log in page for lion. As in, I type in my password, it thinks for two seconds, goes black, and has the log in page again. It just loops. No end in site. I've rebooted in safe mode, run disk utitily, and repaired the disk... but no dice, still. It repairs the disk, fine right? When I reboot in regular mode, it just goes back to the password/login screen loop.

My iMac is currently having the problem that it gets stuck at the apple logo whenever I start it up. I posted about this problem in another thread but now I have a new question. In my iMac there is a disc, and i need this disc as soon as possible. Since its stuck at the apple logo i can't seem to be able to eject the disc by just pressing the eject button on my apple keyboard. I don't want to have ago at my iMac with a knife or credit card in order to get it out, so does anybody know a way to make my iMac eject this disc? Someone told me about holding my mouse while booting. Does this mean i have to hold down my mouse button while starting it up?

I own a 17" iMac Core 2 Duo. It has been crashing more and more lately. Now when I turn it on, it sits at the apple logo. The spinner does not appear. I tried new sticks of ram, and same thing. I can boot off a windows or Linux cd with the c key, but they freeze halfway through bootup. I ran a hard disk check also.
I ran software update and got (iPhoto, itunes, Security patch) so I ran it and downloaded everything except the Intel Security Patch. So I restarted and decided to try again. Restart didn't work as it got stuck and I had to reach around and restart by holding down the power button. When it came back up, I got the white screen with the grey apple logo and the spinning clock like icon..... spinning and that is where I am stuck, left it off all night and tried it in the morning, same thing.
I did try:
-resetting pram (nothing happened)
-restart in safe mode, holding down shift key (nothing, stuck on screen)
I would try to start up from the OSX disk except I have a DVD in the machine. I am thinking it was that security update that didn't download fully that is doing this but how do I get the imac, "unstuck"? or how do I manually eject that DVD to put in a OSX start up disk?
I picked up this G4 (M6498, 17", 800/256/80HD) from a lady in her 80's whose son sent her a new G5, but I'm having trouble getting it to boot on HD or CD. When I turn it on all I get is a file icon alternating between mac face and "?". Boot from IMAC CD: same thing - I hear the CD track switching a few times periodically but that's it. Boot from OS9 Install CD: same thing. I'm not that familiar with iMac, although I've had a few other Mac machines on and off through the years AppleIIe, PowerMacG3). Any suggestions what to try next?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac 24" that I have had for about 18 months now, after switching from a PC. I absolutely, positively love my iMac and OSX, and will never go back to Windows. I love absolutely everything about how my iMac looks and behaves, with one big exception. The "Mighty" Mouse. Simply put, it sucks. It isn't so mighty. Not the design or the looks, on the contrary, it fits the hand, and has all the buttons in the right place. But just one 'tiny' thing really kills me - the tracking. I have tried both the corded and the bluetooth versions, and they both suck. Neither one will track fast enough to go across my 24" of sapace without lifting the mouse up to return it to the position I started from. And yes, I know all about Steermouse, and have it loaded even with my current Logitech laser mouse. Problem is, it (the Logitech mouse) looks terrible sitting next to my classy iMac. Has anyone out there found a way to make the Mighty Mouse (either version) track better? Is the problem in the hardware, or software? Just my 2 cents I guess.
