i have my itunes organised by date added so i can see whats newest in my library.
the only issue is that it doesnt list the tracks in the right order in the album and sometimes splits each album into smaller batches of tracks.
songs from Vinyl, into iTunes and keeping the song order on the Album.As it stands, when I rip Vinyl onto my computer, then import the songs into iTunes, they seem to be arbitrarily organized. I'm sure there is some logic to the way iTunes is organizing them, but it is not the order of the Album. There must be some way to organize or 'sort' these songs in order of the Album. I remember on the older versions of iTunes, there used to be a numbering section on the far left hand side of the songs. I can't see that anymore and even when I control-click the songs, the sorting options don't seem to do much for me.

Well, I just noticed that most of the 10,000 songs in my library have at some point lost the original 'date added' they used to have. Now, the earliest date is sometime in February of 2010. And some have been set to just a few days ago. How did this happen? Is this a bug of iTunes 10? I only just noticed this, so I'm not sure when it happened.

I should note that I'm running the latest version of iTunes and the latest version of Mavericks, but the iTunes library that I'm using is the library on my Snow Leopard drive (because I don't know a simple way of importing all of that music--25,000+ songs--into the Maverick side).

I have moved my itunes media to the new machine but it is lacking all ratings, the original 'date added' as well as play counts. In fact, I have left all the old metadata behind, but these are the only three parts I'd like back. What I'd like to know is if there is a utility or mini app that can extract this kind of data from my old library file and add it to my new one.
I would have just moved the original library file but I have done that since iTunes 1 and the library file has become a bit messed up. I am rather enjoying my shiny new library file - I just want my ratings, 'date added' and play count metadata injected back in!
I love the playlist trick for the ratings but this is no good for 'date added' or play count obviously.
recently I deleted some playlists off my iPhone in order to free up space for the time being and did not realize that Apple changed its iOS so that it deleted the playlists off my iTunes as well. When I did this before, it did not do that.
So in an attempt to recover my lost playlists I moved my iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml to the desktop and then when I reopened iTunes I clicked import playlist and imported the iTunes Library.xml on the desktop.
It reimported all my songs, but it didn't even recover the playlists I was trying to gain again. In addition now all my "date added" is today date's which is not very useful to me considering a lot of my playlists are organized by the date added feature.
Is there anyway to get the date added back for all my songs? I still have the itunes library.itl and itunes library.xml that I moved to the desktop in the first place on the desktop.

This is super handy and I would like to be able to do it throughout the Finder but I can't find the option anywhere. Please note: I realize there is Date Created and Date Modified, these are not what I'm wanting to do, if a file was created and last modified a year ago, but added to a folder five minutes ago, I want to be able to sort the folder contents so that the file just added appears at the top of the list. So e.g. I have my headings in line 1 (A:E) [Date- Job # - Client - Designer - Due By] then when I start entering date into line 2, 3, 4, or any line. I want to be able to start typing in say line 4B which would be "Job #", but I would like the current data & time to be auto added to 4A. I have read there is way to get the date auto added to a doc once its opened but I will be adding jobs all day therefore the times would always be different and would not work as I only open the doc once a day.

However, recently I imported some of these such pictures off of an old computer. While they are labeled with the right days, iPhoto seems to be listing events in the order they were imported in. Thus, I have pictures taken in 2003 next to my Christmas pictures from this year. I'd rather just have everything in chronological order, by date taken. Is there a way to do this?

I have a problem with SOME of my albums in itunes. Some of them ( aprox 20%) are displaying the sogns within an album in an alphabetical order. I do not have "track" in the column header selected. I have tried selecting "track #"but this does not rectify the track names into the original album order. I can not manually enter the track number either in the "track #" field to manually rectify this as iTunes does not allow you do this. It is really frustrating that I have to listen to some of my albums in alpabetical song name order rather than the order the artist wanted me to. Or even largest to smallest files) This is normal to me. What I don't understand is that when I create a search, I don't have that option to adjust the order of the date created, size, etc. When I try to adjust the options view in the search, it will not allow me to.

There's something that's been bugging me for ages, literally years:
I've got a whole lot of music, 45 days worth, and I view it by date added and want to keep it that way for a number of reasons.
Problem is, when I want to play an album I have to click on the first track, then switch to album (or artist) display by the end of that track.
The other day I added an album by dragging it into iTunes in the Finder. I noticed that I could start and stop and advance and rewind tracks and it would go in order, from first to last track, even in Date Added mode, so it was visually moving up and down instead of from top to bottom.
Is there secretly a way to view in Date Added but have the next track be the next track on that album? Besides dragging the tracks into iTunes from the Finder I mean.
If anyone has a way to do this, it would seriously improve my life and I would be infinitely grateful.
I just finished an original rock album, registered it with Gracenote, and it is being sold through itunes and many other places via cdbaby. The album is also available to download via Dropcards to people that buy or receive a download crad from us in person. PROBLEM is, when you download the cd, the tracks are in the proper order as on the album when they are in a folder from Dropcards, then you drag them into itunes and they are in ALPHABETICAL order in the RECENTLY ADDED folder! Under the MUSIC tab, they however are in proper album order. ?? It's good that the cd is properly registered and is in the right order in peoples main MUSIC list, but when I download albums, the easiest way to find the new album is under RECENTLY ADDED, which in my case would have people clicking on the wrong song to start listening to our record (not the intended feel we wanted to start the record with)

I have given them both th exact same metadata in the hope that this would 'merge' them as a single collection but no luck.

I want to have my music in this order: artist (alphabetically) ,year (ascending 2001 to 2008 for example for each artist) and albums that have various artist with them with to stay grouped together in itunes. Even though I click make a compilation. It wont order that way. I had it last time.

I have many audiobooks that are in iTunes and on my iPod. They're in the correct audiobook locations for itunes and ipod. My problem is that on the ipod, when I go to audiobooks, it's just a list of individual tracks. Many of them have been copied from my CDs so there's many files per audiobook (that's how I like it--so I'd rather not put them in one gigatic file per book.
Right now, my audiobooks just show a list, like if I went under | Music > Songs | and it just lists all my songs on the ipod.Is there a way to set up the audiobooks on an ipod so that when I get on my ipod I can go...

I have a problem with organizing my movies. At present a series of iTunes moves over the years has left me with a whole mess of duplicate and triplicate movies that are difficult to reference. So I popped the hood on iTunes and got to work.
So far I have:
*Renamed the movies to relavent titles.
*Sorted them all into folders and organised the folder structure the way music is stored.
*Deleted duplicates and triplicates (and even more copies in some cases).
*I did this first in an old back up.
*Then in live iTunes
*Found multiple folders with the movies.
*One located Music>iTunes>Media>Movies
*The other located Music>iTunes>Movies (found lower down in the file structure)
Doing this made no difference to the way the movies were being displayed in iTunes. This means iTunes is getting the info on what to show on the screen from something or somewhere else?
How can I get iTunes to show the movies on screen as they are arranged in the folders or as iTunes organises the music?
Is it something to with the "iTunes Music Library.xml" or "iTunes Library.itl" file?
