My daughter's entire iTunes library seems to have disappeared from her mac. She has everything on her iPhone. How does she get it back onto her computer?

Just a quick question, I have a friend who recently the HDD go out in her laptop. She has all her music in her iPhone, but if I replace the HDD in her laptop for her, is there a way to transfer the music from her iPhone to her computer? I think this is a pretty common questions but I just Googled it and found some random "sketchy tutorials" with self-promotions for random tools like "tansee iPhone -> PC" and the like...
Just wondering if there's a handy/favorite program you guys out there use? Windows or Mac software is fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLooked at my ITunes library last week to try and make a new playlist but all my years of music/videos etc has disappeared without me doing anything? I have had very bad luck with Time Machine as well and realised not long ago that for 4 years it has only been backing up 'Desktop' and not the whole computer. I backed up all my photos and docs on various DVD's and CD's once I realised but I cant see that I backed up my Itunes library. I am only hoping that on the 'Desktop' external hard drive back ups that I can find it again? If it is on there, how do I get it off as I have heard that you can not retrieve certain items from an external hard drive especially with Time machine although I have never needed to before. Do you think all my songs etc have gone forever now?

I was adding some music to iTunes downloaded through acquisition x, and my external HD (Seagate 320 GB) all of a sudden has no music files anywhere on it. The available space is still the same as when i had 40 gigs of music on it, and iTunes says on opening: "The file "iTunes Library" does not appear to be a valid iTunes Library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes Library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged)."
I can't find any .xml or .itl or a (damaged) library file ANYWHERE. THEN the next dialog display says the iTunes application could not be opened, the required file is in use.
So used an applescript to unhide invisible files and folders, and the .Trash is empty, Finder's trash is empty, searched all OVER for any trace of the .mp3 files in my library, but they have disappeared. I also can't unmount or eject, verify or repair my External because it is "in use." The only process running i can see is finder, though I'm not sure.
A few days ago I tried changing the name of the middle file in the top row (Currently "iTunes Lib", which is what I think it was originally). I opened iTunes last night and found that none of my music was there. Obviously iTunes is looking for THAT folder, but the name is different.
What can I do to set this right? If I knew the original name of the file, I would try that.
Had iTunes on PC. Kept iPhone in sync with it. Now have iMac. Can I restore my music form the iPhone to the Mac?

When I click "Restore iPhone", I get an error message saying "Find my iPhone must be turned off before 'iPhone can be restored." However, i have already turned off find my iPhone.

I have a new-to-me MacBook (running Lion) and I just downloaded all my music into iTunes. I had been sync'd with an old PC laptop previously. If I choose to sync my iPhone (4S) with iTunes on the MacBook, will it delete my apps and data (as the warning in iTunes leads me to believe)? I do use iCloud backup on the iPhone, and I've got all kinds of apps installed (and arranged to my liking). What's the best way to have my music sync with the MacBook without having to reinstall my apps?

I opened itunes today and all my music was gone for no reason. The files were still there, so I imported the itunes music folder. That would have worked, but most of my music is in .wav, so all the albums and artists got lost leaving a big jumble of songs. Everything is still intact on the ipod. Is it possible to restore the itunes library from the ipod or am I stuck re-ripping all my CDs?

When I go to choose the library (which I copied to my new computer), the file remains grey and can't be selected. I copied two companion files that had .itdb labels as well as the library file (all were from the most current backup and showed that I had opened them the last time I used my computer before it died). I could not find any .xml files related to this iTunes library (some of the help said there would be files like this as well). My old computer was running iTunes 10.6.1, same as my new computer. Suggestions?
The old computer is a 2008 MacBookPro. I can't get it to start up at all, but have the Time Machine backup from the last time it opened (last week). I'm trying to open the library on a 2011 MacBook Air.

I just bought the new 27 inch iMac I have been using Time Machine on my macbook4 pro and used the backup with migration assistant to the new iMac. When I did the restore, everything went fine except iTunes does not recognize my iPhone or iPad. It does not show up at all when plugged into the iMac. The one thing I had to do when using the restore was change the name of my user account info as it would not transfer to the iMac with the same user info. Anyone got a clue on what I should do to get iTunes to recognize my iPhone and iPad?

So I did that...it restores the phone and then usually it goes to the page where you can see the contents of your iPhone and sync music and apps. I can't get past the restore "Set Up Your iPhone" page. I called Apple Support and they do not understand what I'm trying to say and keep telling me to restore my phone. I DID 5 TIMES! It won't let me go beyond that option screen.

I've just had to do a complete restore of my iMac. It was acting very oddly, so I chose to restore the Applications and the System Settings manually, especially as a full restore did not fix the problem.
In the process, I did not restore my Music folder and, to boot, the Time Machine backup files seem to have gone invisible to Time Machine as I cannot see them in Time Machine. I can, however, see them in the finder and have been able to restore most everything from the backups. I have been able to bring the iTunes file onto the desktop, but want to put it in the Music folder shown in the panel on the LHS of the Finder window. The system will not permit me to put it there, or am I missing something? iTunes runs just fine from the file, but I'd like it to be in the right place, and not on my Desktop. This is all with the latest Yosemite.

the only solution i've found that works is i have to re download itunes everytime to make the restore or upgrading my iphone work, i've tryed the recovery mode and the dfu mode itunes just sits there after the final loading process, so my question is is there a way i can get it working back to normal without having to re downloading itunes.

i Have an iPhone 6 (128Gb) with over 60gb of music synced and I have noticed that whenever I make several changes on my iTunes (genre changes, files directory changes, etc) to multiple songs and then try to sync it to my phone it gets stuck on the last step until I'm forced to unplugged the phone (trying to stop the sync doesn'to work).
Once I reconnect my phone and the backup process starts again all my music files now appear as "other" and thus ITunes now tries to sync all my music again causing an error message stating that I do not have enough capacity..
i Have tried to troubleshoot this issue to isolate the problem but with no success. I was just forced to reinstall all my apps and music once again and I am extremely annoyed since it happens quite often (since I do end up editing large amount of songs on a constat basis). after making all those changes on ITunes i always make sure ITunes recognizes those files. I try to close and open iTunes to ensure it updates its library and all the files' links. All songs do appear and play normally on iTunes. Everything works on iTunes but then when I plug in my phone all new or modified songs appear grayed out with the circle to the left (indicating they will be synced, but it never happens)

I just upgraded from a iPhone 5 to 5S. I upgraded the storage and am trying to move all my songs from my iTunes library on my mac to my phone. When I go to play them on my phone, they're all in there, but have the cloud w/ the down arrow and won't play. I try to download them, but it says my iTunes match is expired. I have them stored on my computer, have tried syncing all, checked all the individual songs, albums, and playlists, and tried dragging them over.

Fortunately, I have Applecare, so the HD was replaced without any difficulty and free of charge, and returned reasonably rapidly. Anyway, I have the entire music collection on two iPods, a classic (80GB) and a iTouch (64GB). My problem is how to restore this collection to iTunes, as syncing either of them at present may result in the further obliteration of the music collection. So, fellow denizens of MR, advise me please: What is the best way to attempt to restore - from an iPod to iTunes - a prized music collection? Senuti has been mentioned; is it recommended, and what does it entail? It was also suggested to me that I use the Classic for this attempted restoration, rather than the Touch.
I had to move around my files recently so needed to change the location iTunes looked for them. I ran across a hack whereby you edit the iTunes Music Library.xml file and then intentionally corrupt the iTunes Library.itl file so that it reimports the next time you restart iTunes (I'm sure many of you may already be familiar with this hack).
It almost works. Problem is that it doesn't import all my files. I have over 10000 files but it only imports 6445 of them. I noticed that the original xml filesize is 16MB. After importing, it gets chopped down to 10MB. What the heck is happening here?
Ok so i am trying to figure out the best way to do this over 3g. I want to purchase a WD My book live to store my photos, videos, and all of my music. I know that I can remap my itunes to find the files while i am on the same wifi network.
What i am trying to figure out is can i remotely access and play my music from the WD My book live? Basically by passing my laptop. Is the best why to do this is with a VPN? If so what will let you access an external NAS drive, and run a itunes app?
