my iPhone 3gs is asking me for a password to unlock back up when i try to restore it. I updated to ios5 on a friends computer, I have tried every single password i have ever used and its not working...does this mean i lose everything?

My iphone is passcode protected, but If i lose my iphone, I don't want someone to be able to restore it. Is there a way that I can put a password on it through itunes, so that if I, or anyone tries to restore it, it will ask for a passcode first?

I have somehow lost all my iTunes. When I go to play something - I get the grey exclamation mark comes up. In trying to restore from Timw Machine, I find my iTunes is now unlocked. I have gone through the process of unlocking every file I can find and changing all the permissions to read and write. However it is still locked.Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought the new 27 inch iMac I have been using Time Machine on my macbook4 pro and used the backup with migration assistant to the new iMac. When I did the restore, everything went fine except iTunes does not recognize my iPhone or iPad. It does not show up at all when plugged into the iMac. The one thing I had to do when using the restore was change the name of my user account info as it would not transfer to the iMac with the same user info. Anyone got a clue on what I should do to get iTunes to recognize my iPhone and iPad?

So I did that...it restores the phone and then usually it goes to the page where you can see the contents of your iPhone and sync music and apps. I can't get past the restore "Set Up Your iPhone" page. I called Apple Support and they do not understand what I'm trying to say and keep telling me to restore my phone. I DID 5 TIMES! It won't let me go beyond that option screen.

the only solution i've found that works is i have to re download itunes everytime to make the restore or upgrading my iphone work, i've tryed the recovery mode and the dfu mode itunes just sits there after the final loading process, so my question is is there a way i can get it working back to normal without having to re downloading itunes.

I have gone to my library and into the mobile sync/backup, but when I open the backup folder its empty. I haven't seen a response from Apple. When I go into iTunes it shows that my backup will be encrypted with a password. I have NEVER backed it up to iTunes, only to the cloud. When I try to disable the encrypt option it asks for a password that I have never set. Many others have said to try every password you've ever had for iTunes as well as your security code on your phone. Oh and why not "000" and "1234" while you are at it. None of these work. It isn't the end of the world for me because I still have the phone and it is backed up on the cloud, but what is the deal Apple? How can I get or set my password since I have never set it in the past?Â

I recently created a Sparse Disk Image that I've password protected. When I try to open the Disk Image I get a popup window that has the words "Keychain Access" as the window title and the following text below that: "To perform this action you must unlock the keychain. Please enter the keychain password." Now, this is pretty straight forward (obviously). My question is, how do I (once I've unlocked the keychain and opened the Disk Image) immediately lock the keychain again so that if I step away from my computer my keychain isn't still open?

My mother works for a school district which provides laptop computers. They recently rolled over to newer computers and my mother purchased the old one from the school. Most everything works normally, although there are quite a few things(system preference e.t.c..) which require a admin name & password. It has been impossible for me to acquire these from the school and I am looking for a way to override these. I read on a forum to reinstall the hard drive from an operting cd. I have no cds whatsoever with the computer. Would love any suggestions on how to override thise system admin & password problem.

It asks me to get a Recovery Key. I have contacted Apple support and they told me to do a Recovery using the Command key and R at the beginning of the session.
