Very recently, a search for a particular artist starting yielding songs by that artist but also many other artists. Some might think I shouldn't be disturbed by this, but the search function was perfect until now. There were no unwanted selections. What is wrong? How can I get iTunes to function as perfectly as it has for many years?

After I executed automation and default clean up function with Onyx. After reboot Finder doesn't open anymore on the menu bar there are only three options: finder, files, help. I have to click on the finder menu and choose run full finder to get it back to work.
Launchpad simply doesn't show anything anymore
spotlight just disappeared...
Im able to create a new account and everything works fine. I have keychain in the current account so it will be better if I can fix this.

for over a month I have been unable to use search in email on the icloud. If I search for ANYTHING at all, eventually it comes back saying it can not download emails. The email list is blank. Then, even after deleting the search criterai, I can see no emails whatsoever anywhere, not in Sent, not in Trash, and not in Inbound. The only way I can see emails again is to log out and log back in again. Email on the icloud has been like going back 10 yrs in functionality. It has been painfully slow and I see the Can not Load message frequently. All of this is while using my Macbook Pro.

I had some spotlight issues and the index was successfully rebuilt. Mail however, still has a disabled search functionality. If I enter a term in the upper right search field no results appear. Rebooting and restoring Mail don't work. Mail is not excluded in the system prefs spotlight settings.

I have a mighty mouse and the ball scrolls down but dont scroll up. I have tried the plain sheet of paper and rolling the ball on it until it cleans itself but its only worked for a while, now nothing seems to be working

Search in Mail is not working for me on my brand new retina iMac running 10.10.1
If I type in something in the search field it returns no results but the same query in spotlight returns results (in my mail messages)
I have repaired disk in safe mode, repaired permissions, deleted envelope index files, reindexed hard disk, rebuilt mailboxes and spotlight indexes, to no avail.
( sudo mdutil -E /, cd ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData, rm Envelope Index*, ... )
What else can be done ? My other desktop mac is a 2009 Mac Pro upgraded to Yosemite and the search in Mail is working perfectly with the same iCloud accounts.

View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery time I search for a song in iTunes, then close the search by hitting the "x" in the search bar, iTunes returns me to the top of my iTunes library (the A's), instead of staying on the song I've searched for and selected. It's incredibly annoying, and has been happening to my iTunes for a few years (but didn't in early versions of the software). Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a bug, or just a bad design? If so, is there a way to stop it?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've tried everything to get it to shuffle even resorting to reinstalling it. I've tried everything and even came up empty handed after Googling it.
I've tried changing the settings from shuffling from songs to albums or groupings, but nothing works. It seems like such a small problem, when really it's very cumbersome to deal with.
Oh and I use iTunes 8.
It just update until the half and then it froze. What i need to do?

I have a number of iTunes libraries, and for the "supplementary" ones, I set the preferences so that iTunes does not copy the media to the Library, instead it just references it.Usually the original media is on a disk other than the one the Library is located on.However I have noticed that when I do this, and add media to the Library, it changes the modification date of all the original media files. This is very impolite and improper behaviour. Why does iTunes change the modification date? For a start, all my backups are made out of sync, because they now think these files have been changed when they haven't.Is there any way to stop this and make iTunes play nice?I haven't tried making the files "read only" but frankly one should not need to do that to avoid the problem (and maybe iTunes would spit the dummy with read only files?).

My old iMac had OSX 10.5.xx and iTunes 9.xx installed and the iTunes library was stored on an external HD. I have run iTunes that way for many years and had to upgraded the HD a couple of times to the point I now have a 4TB drive for my iTunes library.Â
I have now bought a new iMac that has OSX 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2.2 installed on it. I changed the default library location under iTunes preferences but it tunes does not read the files and keeps on wanting me to file my files from the Cloud.Â
The search feature in Lion/Mail will not find names or words in the "Subject" category even when I know they exists. I use mail for my business and often need to find old emails from clients..... the new search feature in Lion does not work. How can Apple release a product with such a obvious flaw?  Â
Other problems with mail..... • When I open mail no new mail will appear in my "in box" until I select another mail box like "trash" or "Sent".... then the new mail will appear. • The "Hide Mail" feature is greyed out when mail is open.... there's no way to hide mail. • The scroll down bar on the right side of the window is hidden until you drag the edge of the frame over to reveal it. • Windows are locked and can't be moved. I've been using Apple products from the earliest days in the 1980's and quite frankly have been shocked at some of the things Apple is screwing up these days. From the Final Cut Pro conversion to Final Cut X disaster that has sent thousands of professional editors running to other products, to these seemingly small but irritating flaws with the new software being released before these problems have been addressed. I attached external hard drive to Airport Extreme, set up home network and mounted the hard drive. My MacBook Pro can see the drive and all contents, including iTunes library. Our home PC which is running Windows XP also recognizes the drive and can see iTunes library in My Computer. Here is the problem. When I try to chose which iTunes library to open (Shift+click) in Windows XP, the library on my external HD is not visible so I cant open it! I see the cover art and music folder, just not the actual library. What am I missing here? I can see it in My Computer, why not in iTunes?! I need to link my external library to XP. Connecting external directly to PC will not work because I have a Time Capsule there.

Is there any way to recover any disk space or reconcile the numbers here? Please see the attachments below, it may make a bit more sense that way. I would like to recover the disk space and if it really is a 16gb difference somewhere.

System properties -> Energy saver -> Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible is On Everything works perfect in case of local access.
Also in case library's drive sleeps, it takes just several seconds more in order to wake drive. But remote access works only in case the drive is waked somehow. I.e. if Home Sharing is enabled and drive sleeps I cannot get access to the content from remote iTunes or Apple TV.Â
I think it is a bug, remote access shall be not broken in case the drive is sleeping. Also it is known, some forums explain that you shall never put external drives in sleep mode in case this drive used for iTunes Home Sharing [URL]

Just transferred ALL my iTunes library files from my old external hard drive to my new one....
The iTunes library won't recognize the data from the new drive!! I haven't changed the computer!!
All I did was moved my data that no longer had space on my old drive to a new drive....
SO....
1. What do I do to make the library recognize it?
AND THE MILION $$$ QUESTION....
2. Can I keep my old playlist or do I have to start from zero again?
I have gazillons of songs.... It will seriously be a pain in the butt!

I'm new on Mac - just bought the new Air about a month ago What I want to do is to have iTunes manage all my media, since well...since it's supposed to do this. I have my media storred on a NAS, both music and ripped movies.
Music was imported into iTunes without any problems at all, but for the life of me I can't get the movies to import. They are ripped in an .mp4 format, so iTunes should be able to play them, but for some reason I can't import them at all. I've tried by simply dragging them into iTunes, and via the "Open.." function in iTunes as well. Same result - no imported file, and no error messages.
Am I missing something here? Shouldn't I be able to simply import and play them via iTunes?
Doesn't seem to matter if they are placed on the desktop either.
