Feb 13, 2012I recently rented a movie for my son to watch, but have not been able to view it because iTunes is telling me that my computer is not authorized to view the movie. It gives me the option of authorizing the computer if I enter my iTunes Store password. I do and it gives me the same error message with the opportunity to again enter my password. If I click CANCEL it tells me what I already knew, and that is that the computer is already authorized. The rental purchase was made from this Mac and yet I'm not able to purchase it. Is there something that needs to be fixed in order to play this, or is this a bug in iTunes 10.5.3?

Apr 25, 2012I today purchased my first movie RENTAL on itunes, using my mac. My machine now shows the movie in the rentals tab, but when I click play, the player remains black and the timer does not move from 0.00. My purchases work absolutely fine, but for some reason this rental will not play.

Jun 22, 2010I am having an issue with iTunes (9.2) and a movie that I rented from the iTunes Store. Around a month I go I rented 'Borstal Boy' when it was the 99p Film of the Week. I then transfered this to my iPad to watch on the train, which I did. I have obviously synced back after this. Now everytime I download an app, or podcast etc, 'Borstal Boy' is automatically added to my download list and starts to re-download (1.08GB). If I cancel the download it automatically adds itself back into the list next time I download anything else. If I leave it to download and try to play it (to force it to recognise that it has been watched), it asks me to confirm that I accept I have 48 hours to watch it once it starts, then it says that "it is authorised to play on another computer or device". If I delete this, it will then just try and re-download. stop this from constantly trying to download? I've watched the film, and don't want it anymore.

When I connect my iPhone to my Mac I can't see my rental where it should be (click on my iPhone and then click on Movies where I choose what things to sync) - hence I don't have the transfer option. The movie is on my iPhone however - how do I go about it..??? I can't believe there is no option to do it - if I can rent it on my Mac and transfer it to my iOS devices why wouldn't I be able to do it the other way around?

Jun 7, 2012I tried to order act of valor as a rental, but did not work the first time. So i switched to my roommates computer and it began downloading on the same account. However, an error occured while i was downloading it but it still said i was being billed for the movie and had 24 hours remaining to view it. So i switched back to my original macbook pro to see if the download would work the second time. It is downloading but wont let me view the film because it was authorized to be viewed on the other computer as well.

Apr 26, 2012I have already rented several HD movies straight to my iPad (1) and never had a problem. Tonight however I decided to try a new thing and insted of renting straight to the iPad I tried to rent it in iMac first (iTunes) and than move it to the iPad (thought the download could be quicker and was right: it took some 15min to download an HD movie with the iMac when it normaly takes some 45min with the iPad on the same network).
The problem is, when I try to move the movie into the iPad and click "Apply", I get the message saying that "This movie can not play on this iPad".... I tried to do it directkly on the iPad (and paid for the movie again...) and it downloaded just fine... (though it took 45 minutes).

ITunes :: Import Movie Collection - Doesn't Work?
Apr 4, 2012Hope you can shed some light on an issue I'm currently having. I'm new on Mac - just bought the new Air about a month ago What I want to do is to have iTunes manage all my media, since well...since it's supposed to do this. I have my media storred on a NAS, both music and ripped movies.
Music was imported into iTunes without any problems at all, but for the life of me I can't get the movies to import. They are ripped in an .mp4 format, so iTunes should be able to play them, but for some reason I can't import them at all. I've tried by simply dragging them into iTunes, and via the "Open.." function in iTunes as well. Same result - no imported file, and no error messages.
Am I missing something here? Shouldn't I be able to simply import and play them via iTunes?
Doesn't seem to matter if they are placed on the desktop either.

May 18, 2010I have a long oversea flight coming up, do you guys know if the below setup will work? google result is inconclusive, some say it does others say it doesnt..
1) download itune movie rentals to my macbook pro at home
2) once on the plane, with the internet off, play the downloaded itune movie.
Will it play? does it require internet? some of the reports are saying they get error message saying cannot connect to itune store etc... but those are from early 2009. Anyone know for a fact if this works, or not work?

MacBook :: (2008) Won't Boot / Work - Stuck On Gray Apple Logo Screen
Jul 25, 2010For several weeks, my black MacBook (2008) has been acting odd. Certain applications won't open, and when I attempt to open them, the computer makes a quiet clicking noise, like the drive is failing. Last week, when trying to boot it, the thing just wouldn't. Stuck on the grey Apple logo screen. Assuming a hard drive problem or failure, I ran the tests. I ran Disk Utility from the Snow Leopard install disk, checked & repaired permissions, checked & repaired disk. All okay. I ran the Apple Hardware Test from the install disk that came with the computer, using the test that runs for an hour or so, and all appears to be fine. The computer won't boot into safe mode. I've tried flashing the PRAM. I doubt I could achieve much through target disk mode, as I've already run Disk Utility. What's left to do? Something doesn't add up here.

May 3, 2009I am however in IT and consider myself a Windows expert and technically competent. I have an iBook G4 running Mac OS 10.5.6. In all other respects the computer and OS seem fine. However, when I launch mail, no window appears in the screen. The menu bar at the top does switch to Mail. If I attempt to close mail at anytime, it will not close - I have to Force Quit mail. I have setup mail preferences correctly and am able to access the mail account from several other computers and iPods with POP clients. I know that it is setup correctly, because when I first installed the OS and set it up it worked. After installing several other standard software packages (iLife, iWork, Adobe, ...) mail came to be in it's present state. Unfortunately, I can't say exactly when or what change corresponded with the Mail problem. The only way to get a window to appear is to pull down "Window" and choose "message viewer". The inbox then appears. If I click "get mail", nothing appears to happen and no messages (inbox items or errors) appear. Also there is a smart mailbox called "saved mail" created (I did this when first playing around with mail) that I can't delete. I can select and perform the delete procedure, but the smart mailbox never goes away (even after reboot).
If I run "Connection Doctor", the connection and login for incoming mail server and the connection to the outgoing mail server both succeed. But again, clicking on get mail does not yield any readily observable results. I have tried sending test mail as well. There is no apparent outbox that I check so I don't know if there are messages in there, but none of the test messages make it to the recipient.
I have setup mail on a variety of systems (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc) over the years and have a thorough understanding of the workings of e-mail clients and servers.
Also, are there any other (preferably free) mac mail clients that combine the inbox, address book, and calendar?

Apr 9, 2009After several hours my mac is running linked to my LCD screen through MiniDisplay Port - VGA connector, Front Row simply doesn't start. It fades to black for a while but then it immediately fades back to the desktop.
I uninstalled every application might have affected Front Row (Caffeine, LastFm, TV Row) but it was useless. I even tried to fix permissions in the Disk Utility, but it didn't help.
