I have files in iTunes that were created in GarageBand. The actual data has been deleted but I still have the information fork of the data file that I can't delete. The data is gone forever (as far as I'm concerned) from the trash, so what I'm I to do to get rid of all the titles with !'s beside them?

I recently deleted all my Garageband files and emptied the trash by mistake, and I spent ALL YESTERDAY trying to find software to recover it. I spent $100 for Data Rescue 2, which I thought would work, but after talking to their customer service i was informed that DR2 is incapable of recovering "packaged files", hence Garageband. Please i need these files more than anything! Does anybody know of any other program that can recover my Garageband files??

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using iTunes 10.6 and Lion. i have a two problems. i recently moved my iTunes library to my portable hard drive. i have changed the new location under Preference/Advanced to "/portable drive/MUSIC". I have checked 'Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and unchecked 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library. 1) After moving my music and and consolidating, some of my music are in the right folder, which is in "/portable drive/MUSIC" folder, but a majority of the music are created into a NEW SUBFOLDER music folder. e.g.: /portable drive/MUSIC/music/ ?? Why is that happen and how can I move tell iTunes to just put it in the main and 1st MUSIC folder. Do you know why it creates a subfolder name music? 2) When importing new music, it doesn't automatically go into the designated folder but instead retains in the original folder that was imported from? e.g.: i import music from mac hard drive into iTunes and when I click on Get Info on the track, the location is still at /my mac hard drive/duran duran instead of /portable drive/MUSIC/. How do I get it to organized the music into /portable drive/MUSIC/

I have a MacPro (Intel), and I had my Music folder on a second (non-boot) internal drive. That drive was getting full, so I bought yet another internal drive to put in one of the other bays, thinking to copy the folders to the new, larger-capacity drive. So I bought a 2 Tb drive and transferred all my MOVIES to the new drive, but then went back and deleted my MUSIC folder and emptied the trash. I knew immediately that I'd made a mistake.
I haven't written anything to that drive whatsoever from that moment on, so absolutely nothing should have been over-written. I have plenty of room on the new drive to which I can recover the deleted files. Unfortunately the folder/directory was very large, with over 20,000 files, mostly of podcasts/spoken word stuff, much of which is no longer available or would represent thousands of hours of download time, plus all my digitized folk music from long out-of-print LP records.
You'd think I'd be more responsible with >600 Gb of data! However, fortunately the drive is in good working order, it just requires a good recovery strategy. I know that services that do recovery charge a fortune, and because I haven't written anything to that drive and it still mounts without problems, I'm hoping I can do this myself with a good data recovery software package. Because I am talking about literally thousands of files, it is just too painful to think about editing all the metadata about each file (name, artist, album, etc.), and ideally I would like to recover the files and the file structure so podcasts are recovered as such, etc.
Is this at all possible?
If so, what are the relative merits of File Salvage vs. Data Rescue vs. Kernel for Macintosh (Nucleus Data Recovery) vs. VirtualLab Data Recovery vs. Stellar Phoenix? Is there something better than these--these are the only ones I found on a Web search. Are there any head-to-head reviews of which someone is aware?
error message: itunes library .itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version. I downloaded and in stalled the latest version of itunes and it did not help.

I am having a frustrating time with one aspect of garageband I can't seem to resolve. Here is the situation - if I record a multitrack live performance and save the entire 60 minute+ file it is 3.12GB in size.
If I then edit the file down into 7 minute, and 5 minute sections from the master file - they are still saving as 3.12GB files. It is as if I can't get rid of all of the contents of the master file when I edit down shorter i.e. smaller sections.
When I try to take a screenshot (Command + Shift + 3/4) I get the camera sound, but a file is never created on my desktop. I have searched my drive and can't see that these images are going anywhere.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a few RAR files I downloaded from the internet. They are sitting in my Downloads folder. These are some of the latest files I've downloaded, but when I sort by Modified and Created Date, they are scattered throughout the folder. The dates the files have are from before I even downloaded them.
I'm used to Windows where I could sort by Modified or Created date and I could see the latest files I downloaded in descending order from the most recent to the oldest. So, is OSX different, am I misunderstanding something or is there something weird about these RAR files? Furthermore, when I unpack the RAR files, their modified/created date is not today's date.
I'm pretty new to mac and a pro windows user. It's not been a month since I bought my first mac and now I'm feeling so comfortable with it.
I have a basic question on how to select a few files, drag and drop it into a new folder in the same folder level
For example, In windows I do this
1. Select few files in C:Temp
2. Cut those
3. Create a new folder and rename it C:TempNewTemp
4. Right click the folder and Paste it.
This is what I do in Mac now
1. Choose the files to be moved into a new folder (When I'm about to drag it, I remember that I've not created the new folder! Grr..)
2. Create a new folder and all my selection is gone
3. Now reselect all the files again and drop it to the new folder (Phew!)
Am I missing the cut feature in finder??? I know that 'Cut' is not much required in mac since everything works on DragNDrop.
I'm not sure whether there is any workaround for people like me who are used to selecting the files before creating a target folder. I'm sure that there should be something which can help me create a folder onthefly while dragging the files and keeping the selection intact.
This is the first time I have created an Excel file on my own MacBook Air, and while doing so, I noticed that five Excel files were created somehow on my desktop, with file names such as "B958D530." I cannot move them, open them, get info about them, or delete them. What are these and how do I get rid of them?

Basically I am a singer songwriter and have recently starting recording myself singing and using iMovie to record and Garageband to record me singing and putting the backing track in. I have no problem importing the Garageband file into iMovie, however I cant find how to make them go in sync - for example when I start singing in the GarageBand file isn't when I start singing in the iMovie video.

All of my original files were GONE and only alias's were left. I search and the originals aren't found, I open the alias's and they want me to find the originals. The originals are just GONE. I am trying to set up a folder action to do the following... When a file is added to the "images" folder a new dated subfolder would automatically be created, and the file would be moved to this new dated subfolder.
Here's what I have so far (which I'm sure is way off base)
1) Folder action receives files and folders added to "Images"
2) Filter finder items - Find files where ALL of the following is true: Kind is ANY
3) New Folder - Name is "_" Where: "Images"
4) Add Date or Time to Finder Item Names: Add Date to folder name
5) Move Finder Items: This is the step that I'm stuck on. I don't know how indicate the newly created folder in step 3
Another question I have is how to make automator check to see if there's already a subfolder with the current date and put the file in that subfolder instead of creating a new subfolder with a duplicate name.

Upon adding new songs to my library, iTunes creates a new folder, gives it the same name as the folder "above" and adds the songs I want to add in this new folder. I deleted the whole library. I have a folder "Greatest hits" with about 20 subfolders for each artist. I added the folder "Greatest hits" to the iTunes library, Itunes creates a new folder for every individual artists in the root directory, copies the songs as well but the cover jpg remains in the "old" folder...
What to do?
Can't find a playlist I created on my playlist or computer? I didn't delete it. I don't want to create it again because it took a long time.

I'm having trouble upgrading to iTunes 10.6.1. Earlier today, I opened iTunes, and received an error message that "iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." Still not sure why this happened. I followed a workaround I found by essentially renaming a previous iTunes library. Now, I open iTunes, and when I click on "software update," it is indicated that I can update to 10.6.1. However, this takes me to the main Mac Software Update program, but unfortunately I'm told that there are no updates for my computer. The "current version" I am using is iTunes 10.5.1. how I can actually upgrade to 10.6.1?

It appears to be created and recreated by iTunes, but it shares it's name with a nasty piece of spyware so I'm really not liking it being there.

After I moved my iTunes media and library back from an external drive back to my new laptop (with a larger drive), I can't open iTunes. I get this message "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the iTunes folder in the "Music" folder. The only option it gives is to click "OK" and iTunes shuts down. I tried reinstalling iTunes but the problem persists. I've checked and my iTunes Library.itl file is in its proper location.

So, my current Apple ID is under an email that I deactivated (it was hacked into). I wanted to create a new ID using my current email. But will I lose everything on my iTunes library if I get a new one? Meaning is my music and apps and whatnot saved to my computer or the application itself versus my Apple ID? I know that if I create a new ID that I can just transfer everything from my iPod to iTunes, but I have a 2G iPod Touch and it's a real pain in the neck when I sync it to iTunes (freezes/gets stuck/really slow). I use the newest version (10.6 I believe? Just downloaded it a couple of days ago) for Mac.
