ITunes :: Upgrading To 10.6 Erased All Of Star Ratings?
Mar 13, 2012
So, I've been an iTunes user for a decade and I've lost album art here and there between iTunes upgrades but I just opened iTunes and noticed that ALL of my star ratings are gone.Â
Has anyone else had this problem before? Is there any non-Time Machine based solution? I'm obviously livid as I have a library of 49,000 songs that I'd rated over the past ten years and if I can't get them back, I don't see why I would ever trust this program again.

Before moving to a new Mac I backed up my old itunes music library.xml file and manually added all of my music files to itunes on my new mac.Â
Does anybody know a way of getting my old information such as ratings, number of plays etc from the old library into the new one?

I am in process of moving iTunes from a Windows XP computer to an iMac that is networked with a Time Machine. I allowed Home Sharing on both computers, which allowed me to copy all songs from the Windows to iMac. I then send myself an e-mail of my Library.xls file, which moved all my playlists. So I have all my songs, album art, and playlists. All I need to do now is to move my song ratings.

I am going to be reformatting my hard drive soon and I remember last time that I reformatted iTunes didn't export my ratings with my music. I have read other places about creating playlists with the song ratings so all songs of a specific rating are in that playlist and then export the playlist. I would like to know if this would be a good way to do this. Also I was wondering if there is any way to retain the dates the songs were added to the library, but I am mostly concerned with the ratings.

My iPhone 5c used to sync with my old Windows laptop via iTunes and both devices held all music information on them such as iTunes rating, playlist information and the selected songs to be synced (there are more songs on my iTunes on my laptop than my iPhone).  All of these songs are also saved on an external hard drive. None were purchased through iTunes.
When my old Windows laptop died, it died abruptly so I did not have chance to consolidate the iTunes media folder. I have now bought a new MacBook Air to replace my old Windows laptop.
When I plug in my iPhone 5c to my new MacBook Air, when iTunes offers to sync it advises all information on my iPhone will be lost.
Is it possible to transfer the ratings and playlists from my iPhone to iTunes on my MacBook Air, at least for the corresponding songs that exist on my iPhone? Note I have the original songs on an external hard drive so the song files themselves do not have to copy across. All the files in the iPhone exist in the external hard drive.

Ironically I erased my kids' favorite iTunes movie (Cars 2) while in the process of trying to back it up off of our Apple TV and laptop onto an external drive. Is there any way to recover it without having to purchase it again? Is it on the iCloud? Does Apple keep a record of our purchases and will the restore the file?

My MacBook intel core duo won't star up. I turn it on and I get the Apple sign and then the loading cycle doesn't stop. I've already tried going into my install disk and disk utilities and then repair the disk but it didn't help. Is there anyway to get it to work without wiping my entire harddrive?

Me and a friend want to share some project pictures and give them star ratings, this is easy to do on windows but I cant seem to find a way to do this on leopard. I know in iPhoto you can give photos a star rating but I still cant seem to view the star rating that has been given to it. Really I just need to be able to view the picture star ratings easily. Is there a way do this?

Anyone know a reputable place to get star wars icons? If so how do you replace them with the regular screen icons. Btw, I did probably a weak search regarding this on the forums already.

My iTunes library shows empty ratings and dates played for tracks that iMatch marks as eligible. I haven't downloaded any of them yet. Can I restore this data after downloading? Or is it a regrettably inevitable part of the process? I use iTunes 10.6.1 on a late '08 MBP with OS 10.6.8.Â

I recently upgraded to iTunes 9.1.1. After plugin in my iPhone I realized that some weird stuff was going on. I.E., iTunes asked me if I wanted to transfer all my iPhone purchases back to iTunes (I never buy iPhone Apps outside iTunes). After letting it SYNC again (iTunes copied all iPhone APPs back to iTunes) I noticed that my iTunes' podcast list was empty. Further investigation in showing me that files are there (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Podcasts) but they are not showing in iTunes. I get a screen offering to show me some podcast videos & tutorials).
So, my question is:
1. Is there a way to rebuild iTunes database to see if that fixes the issue?
2. If #1 is not possible. How can I import my podcast list back.

Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and, in the process, appear to have lost access to my iTunes. After the upgrade, when I clicked on the iTunes icon, I was then asked if I wanted to "install iTunes!" I have found folders that appear to contain the contents, but really don't want to re-build my iTunes from scratch.
How can I reclaim my iTunes?

Upgrading to iTunes 10.6 on my mac removed all music from my iTunes library. I have managed to recover the music but all my playlists have gone. Is there any way to recover them (other than painfully recreating them from backups) ?

So I'm just trying to be productive on my MacBook Pro. I'm trying to do the whole "slide 3 fingers up the glide pad" thing so I can see all the windows and kablewie...suddenly my screen goes all star wars and nothing works. I still have a task bar at the bottom of the screen, but clicking on icons doesn't do anything. All of my windows appear the same size and are stacked up slightly overlapping one another in the middle of the screen. The screen has turned into a moving star field. On the right side is some kind of y-axis scale...it looks like a ruler. I have several desktop icons for applications that might be normal if I was on a windows OS. There are two strange 3-d arrows that seem to be trying to point forward-backward along a z-axis. And nothing works...I click things and they grow slightly larger for a second then return to their normal shape, but they don't do anything. I try several random finger-slide manouvers, four-finger up, down, left, right diagonal; the two finger double helix, finger and thumb spirals, etc. but nothing works. I close the lid, wait a few seconds and the reopen. All seems to have returned to normal.
Where was I? Some sort of parallel Apple universe? Why didn't clicking on anything work? How do I time-warp back when this happens again?

I recently had my iMac repaired independently, with upgrade to Mavericks from Lion. I am trying to discover if my Apple purchases/upgrades have been recorded online seeing as of today I cannot find my printed Apple receipts or access much of the information/data which was not correctly migrated to my iMac. I would like to recover iDVD if possible.

The type of mac we use at our company is an iMac 7,1. There are tons of important files on it. During a routine email in mac mail it was taking a long time so I force quit mac mail. I waited a few moments and when I opened it back up mac mail was asking me to register like I had never used it before!I saved everything and restarted the computer and when the screen came up everything had gone! All my files are still here, thank god, but nothing's in the doc, the mail is asking to be registered, the printers are asking to be registered, and spotlight won't pull up any documents that I know are sitting right in front of me.

I have never had this problem before: I deleted Bootcamp partition. Repaired my hard disk and then erased my hard drive. Now I am trying to reinstall Snow Leopard and after the install starts it says: 35 minutes remaining" for about 5 minutes. Then it goes to a screen that says: "Install Failed: Mac OSX could not be installed on your computer. The Installer could not copy the necessary support files. Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again." I tried restarting and installing and I get the exact same situation. I am not sure what is going on here. This MBP is less than 6 months old and this is the 1st time I have tried a reinstall on this particular machine.
