Sometimes when i put a disc in the imac it won't recognize it. When it does this I can't eject it or anything. I have to restart the machine. It does this on cdr's, dvd's or install discs. What causes this? Everything else is perfect so I hesitate to take it in.
View 4 RepliesI'm using a 20" white intel iMac and cannot manage to remove a linux boot disc from the optical drive.At first, the only way that i managed to boot to the linux disc in the first place was from the Startup Disk menu in OSX. I could not even get to the Startup Manager ('opt' at boot) or boot straight to the disc ('C').Now i'm in a position where no matter what i do, the system boots to the linux disc. I cannot even force the startup into OSX to try to eject the disc from there. I've tried holding all of these keys/combinations at startup
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try inserting blank (brand-new) CD+ or CD- and DVD+ or DVD- discs, the slot-drive seems to accept the disc just fine. But then. I hear 2 short "whirrs", nothing for about 10 seconds, 2 short "whirrs", nothing for about 10 seconds, 2 short "whirrs", then the disc is ejected.I have experimented w/different discs & get the same results each time: drive accepts the disc for about 30 seconds, never mounts it on desktop, then ejects it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 2007 Intel MBP, running Leopard. I purchased the family version of Snow Leopard. When I tried to install it, it just spins the disc for a minute, makes the noise like it's trying to read it and then spits it out. All other discs work fine with my MBP so I know it is not the disc drive itself. I have all software "up to date." My brother installed SL on both of his MBs, one newer than mine and one older, just fine (with the same disc). I haven't seen anything out there with this issue so I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone knows how to resolve this issue (beyond taking it back to Apple and exchanging).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the most recent version of iMac 24" with a partition in the HDD to use Windows with parallels. I'm sure that the hard disk is almost full (about 3/4) but today, all the devices (mouse, printer, mac keyboard, external hard disk) are not recognized in the computer.
I was trying to startup the computer in SAFE MODE but once again, the keyboard is not recognized. I can't do nothing! Inclusive, I am available to apply a FACTORY RESTORE but when the disk 1 is inserted into the computer, I need to hit or double click the icon to run.
I got my new imac running leopard few months ago. I was using my WD 500GB external HDD as my backup disk for time machine etc and was working great till a few days ago. Now,when I connect(with firewire 800)- it does seem to start up but does not appear on the desk top.This happens with the USB connection as well.I first noticed the problem when time machine icon(clock) just kept rotating as if backing up,but it just kept going. this happened several times,so I restarted the imac,plugged/unplugged the WD without any joy. Now it does not even recognise it or appear on the desktop. I have checked all connections etc and all seem ok. I connected the WD to my ibook running 'panther-10.3' and it recognises it(via usb),so I presume the WD is working. The imac recognises another external HDD and appears on the desktop. Not sure what to do next,not really keen on trying a complete new reinstall just yet,and that may not even solve my problem. Otherwise the imac seems to be working all right without the WD connected to it.

If I want to sign in to this message board, I can do so. I can also sign in on my iPad to download updates, purchase new apps and songs, etc. And I can sync my iPad to iTunes on my iMac. But when I open iTunes on my iMac, it asks for my password and I can't sign in. What is causing this problem with iTunes on my iMac repeatedly asking for my password when I open iTunes?Â
This is very frustrating. I am also worried that I won't be able to sync when my new iPad arrives March 16.

My problem is I recently purchased a 1 tb Seagate external hd and the imac recognizes some folders and their contents, like pictures and a couple others but will not recognize the contents of my movies or music folders. Now I copied all of my files from a wd elements 500gig and that worked perfectly with my imac. just can't get to my music or movies. Now, I can plug the seagate back into a windows pc and it works perfectly, so i know my files are there, but love to use my mac exclusively. Also running 10.4.11

The drive was recognised until recently and is still seen by Disk Utility, but won't display a desktop icon to access the contents. I've run Disk Utility many times and it won't fix the problem. View 7 Replies View RelatedHave a iMac G5 with built in BT. I used it downstairs yesterday and took it back to the spare room where it usually is used. Fired it up today and I find that the BT mouse is fine BUT it ignores the keyboard. I tried; Replacing batteries. Checked that the suspect keyboard worked on my mac mini (it did). Tried my other BT keyboard on the iMac same problem. So, why does it recognise the mouse but not the keyboard? I do not have a USB Keyboard, so now I cannot Log in to fix it! I am guessing that the pairing has gone BUT surely it would simply see the keyboard as a new one and start setting it up. Something is stopping keyboards working with BT, very strange - could a loose BT module cause this? Or will I have to buy a USB Keyboard now to use my iMac?

My little brother bought an old iMac G4 off eBay about six months ago, against the recommendations of my parents and I who told him he should save until he could afford a slightly better machine. He's been improving it here and there when his savings from lawn mowing and birthday has allowed and his latest investment was the 10.5 operating system. When we went to install on the G4, my brother was shattered to find that the machine wouldn't support it. I investigated and found the problem was due to the G4's 800mHz processor. Not a component he could easily switch out. So after a quick flick around, I found another G4 that I considered could actually be a legitimate investment, given the parts we had. The seller claimed that it was perfectly fine, only lacking a working optical drive and hence, also an operating system. Both of which we had.Â
The second G4 arrived last week and I successfully switched the working optical drive from the old G4 with the "broken" one. Just to make sure I wouldn't lose the screws holding it all together, I installed the "broken" optical drive into the old G4 as well. Then I went to install Leopard. The new G4 has a 1GHz processor and it recognised the Leopard install DVD at boot. It presented the loading screen with the Apple sign and the rotating loading wheel, but wouldn't progress past this. Every time we tried to boot from the install DVD, it would present this screen for around a minute and then the Apple sign would be replaced by a prohibited sign. The booting process never got any further than this. I talked to a few people and ended up installing Leopard via target mode, assuming there was something a little sus with the harddrive which would be resolved once the OS was in place. But wherever the problem lies, it still remains. The G4 now boots successfully from the harddrive and operates fine, but refuses to recognise the optical drive. Here is my chain of reasoning:Â
- The optical drive in the G4 is not at fault. We know this because it operated fine in my brother's first machine.
- The hard drive is not at fault. We know this because the OS installed and now boots and operates without problem.
- The OS is not at fault. We know this because I performed an almost identical installation (minus target mode) using the same install DVD only days before on a G5.
- My installation work is not at fault. We know this because I performed an identical installation of the "broken" optical drive in the old G4. An interesting side note: the "broken" drive is working fine in the old machine. It is not as broken as the eBay seller thought. Â
I don't know a whole lot about computers. Most of what I learn is from trial and error problem solving like this. My question is: where does the problem lie? Â

Okay, so I'm using a late 2013 27-inch iMac, Intel Core i5, running OS X 10.10 Yosemite Beta 2. I've usually just used wifi, but decided to make the switch to a wired ethernet connection. Now the Network settings shows no option for ethernet, so I added a new ethernet connection in the settings. I was then met with a "Cable Unplugged" notice. And I have tried everything to fix it. First of all, I've tested 3 different ethernet cables, and none worked, but all three worked on my 2 Macbook Pros, both running 10.10, and there was no problem. I've cleared my PRAM, reset my power, checked that my ethernet pins weren't damaged, and every other suggestion I could find.

I just bought a brand new 21.5 inch iMac 3 hours ago and it won't recognize my Apple 24 inch Cinema Display. I was been using the cinema display with my laptop for 20+ months now and it still works with my laptop, but this brand new iMac wont use it as an external monitor. I keep hitting "Detect Displays" but nothing happens. Did all software updates that were available through the Software Update app, restarted, shutdown, unplugged the monitor and plugged back in, nothing is making it work. This is very frustrating for a brand new iMac right out of the box to not work properly.

However, in May of 2008 due to factory defect Apple replaced the logic board, power supply and super drive [URL]. In December 2008 after experiencing problems with my hard drive I took my computer to the apple store. There they said it was dying and it would be cheaper to replace it myself. After purchasing a seagate hdd [URL] my computer won't recognize it. It stays at the black screen while the power light glows. After a few minutes the fans kick in at full force. I tested the hdd in another iMac G5 rev. B and it works fine. Any ideas on what the problem is or how to resolve it?

When trying to change the volume, a crossed circle appears under the volume bar.
When trying to set the audio output in system preferences, says there's no audio output.
When trying to set de midi audio, the option buttons are disabled (light gray).
When trying to open garage band, int says "Selected Driver not found.(-10202)" even with the headphones plugged doesn't find the audio input.
But the speakers are ok, they play the start sound when turning on the computer.
