View 2 RepliesOk so my iMac g3 has a left speaker that doesn't work. The right one works fine and when I turn the volume up the left speaker kind of buzzes. Is it even worth replacing the internal speaker? (IIRC it looks pretty difficult)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 2.1 Logitech Z4 setup, and the sound is only coming out of the left speaker. I have checked the wires, they are fine, and both speakers do work - but it could be the socket that's the problem. It's plugged into the line-in socket, I have put the output in System Preferences to Headphones, and everything is inserted correctly.
What do I do?
EDIT: My sound system is plugged into the headphones jack. I have tried putting headphones into the headphone jack and the sound also only comes out of the left earbud.
I have a 20inch imac (bought in summer 2007). I am just getting into using it as my primary computer. I was playing around in order to learn more and I found something through Activity Monitor that does not make sense to me.
In the Network Activity tab, I see "Data received:" and "Data sent:" sections. As I browse the web, these numbers change of course, but it seems that the Data received quickly reaches hundreds of megabytes! Right now, Data received: is 540MB and Data sent: is 280MB (after a reboot earlier in the day). I am not using the iMac as a server or anything and I have never seen a Windows PC sending out so many packets in the course of browsing the web. Is this in line with others' experience? Should I be concerned about a spyware program on my iMac?
I bought the mini-display port to dual link dvi adaptor for $99. However, it doesn't work from going from my pc to the imac or from my macbook pro to the imac. I find it retarded that they wouldn't even sell a working adapter.
Has anyone gotten this to work or does anyone know which adapter I can buy to get this going?
Again.
-PC to iMac
-2009 (pre-minidisplay port) dvi to imac.
I need it to be dual link dvi because I want to use it at max resolution.
My external speaker connection does not work. Is this a mechanical problem or software problem?

I have a 22" Dell external monitor on my MBP. I know that I just close the cover to my MBP to shut off the screen. What do I do in those instances that I want to use both screens? There has to be something simpler than restarting the MBP?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe tower speaker just doesn't cut it and I want to hook up my 5.1 Locitech speaker system. I couldn't find any Mac sound cards on newegg and am having trouble finding results anywhere else. What card is recommended by most Mac Pro users? My professions isn't in audio so it doesn't have to be perfect, just something to play games, music, and movies.

Its very noticeable when you play around in your balance settings (max left or max right) that the volumes are different.
Long story short, My iMac stuffed up not long ago so I sent it to Apple to get it fixed (Apple Store Chadstone), I called them a week later, and Ive been told that they were still working on it. A few days later I called again, they finally found the issue (sort of) and decided to replace the logic board..anyway, I said OK, they later called me back saying they have replaced it but a new problem occurred, the audio/speaker is not functioning etc I said well I will just take it back and fix it myself because I need it for work, I took it back and this is what I found so far: iMacs serial number is gone! Oh also, on the repair report paper, it says I purchased this iMac on March 11 2009(March 11 is my birthday BTW), but I actually bought it in Nov 2008, so according to Apple Store, my iMac is now officially out of warranty.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI play movies stored on my iMac through my speaker system and HDTV using a Mini Display to HDMI cable plugged into my reciever. I'm currently piecing together a 5.1 seperates system but currently only have the front left, front right and centre speakers (3.0). I've played around to try and get the iMac to output though all three speakers but the audio only comes through the left and right channels and ignores the centre speaker completely. Even when I set the output in the 'Audio MIDI Setup' to 5.1 it still doesn't recognise a centre channel.Stereo output is fine but it would be nice to get the centre speaker in use rather than just sitting there in silence.

Actually, still moving into it from the old one, haven't spent allot of time on it, hard to get out of the old one with my photoshop work. Anyhow, whats a good external speaker system for it? I find myself with the volume maxed out on the internal iMac speakers now, don't think it's too good to keep doing that. Is the amp in the iMac my only control over volume? Can I buy a speaker system of very good quality that may have amps within them so I can get more volume to them? I have a real top end stand alone stereo system, but doubt the iMac iTunes can be run through that.
I have a creative 5.1 speaker setup and just recently found my old sound blaster external card from my PC from years ago. I went on the creative website to try and download drivers for it and their weren't any (surprise, surprise). So I've been trying to figure out how to use my speaker setup so I can watch movies from iTunes in 5.1 surround sound. When I plug in the card through USB the sound tab in the system preferences reads it as the SB Live! card (which it is).
Then when I go to the Audio MIDI Setup, it also reads the card and the speakers I have connected to it. When I go the configure speakers tab, it shows them and all when I click on them to test them, it shoots out noise through each speaker. But when I go back to iTunes and enable surround sound in a movie, nothing happens. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there any software I can download so I can use my speakers?
I have yet to buy external speakers for my intel IMac, however, I am noticing more and more a very annoying "crackling or popping" every so often... random "crack/pop"... what is going on? The machine is still under warranty if this is a serious problem... but boy it really is annoying when it happens.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running leopard on an iMac 24" and am having trouble getting my iSight camera to record audio on 2 channels. I have changed my audio input to line in (inbuilt input) in order to record using a better microphone than the inbuilt one in my iMac, and am running a Shure microphone into the input in the back of my iMac via XLR to 1/4" stereo jack cable and then through a 1/4" to 1/8" stereo jack adapter. However when recording video in Photo Booth, iMovie etc. the audio only plays back out of the left speaker. It is not a problem with the output because all of my other sounds (music from itunes for example) play fine out of both left and right speakers. I believe I have run everything into the computer just fine and I can get 2 channels when recording like this in Garageband and Logic.

I've introduced them to iTunes and they are learning how to buy music, but naturally the internal speakers aren't very good (although they are better than I thought they would be). I'm looking for 2.0 or 2.1 setups, preferably something with a sleek, minimalistic, industrial design (and decent sound quality). Price range is $<100.
Here are some I'm looking at:

I was in iTunes when I heard a slight grinding sound form the speaker area and I thought nothing of it. About 5 minutes later I was watching a youtube video and the grinding got louder to the point where I could no longer hear the video. I immediately powered the iMac down and upon reboot process, the grinding sound could be heard again. After the booting process, the sound is gone. I am wondering what it was and if I should waste my time taking it in to an Apple Repair Shop
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that the sound of my 21.5" iMac speakers kinda changes notably when I'm using Windows (BootCamp). Compared to the sound while using Snow Leopard, it sound very thin, bass-less and... just strange. More like MacBook speakers, or just small speakers. Another thing is that the headphone input doesn't work on Windows. Could these issues be related to audio drivers? I don't know much about that sort of stuff.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was surprised one day to find an inch of white line running from top to bottom on my screen. Then after a week it expanded to two inches white line, then suddenly it turned all black and I can't see two inches of my screen from the right edge. I was reading some forums and found out that I can use a dell monitor as a secondary monitor, but is it possible to use the dell monitor as the primary monitor in case the black line will spread throughout the entire iMac screen? so the iMac would serve as a stand alone processor like a regular desktop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just received my refurb 2.8Ghz 24" iMac today. I have been setting it up and transferring files to it for the last few hours. I just installed 4GB of RAM from Crucial to upgrade from my 2GB that came preinstalled. I opened Hulu and started watching a video full screen while I was working on something in the same room. All of a sudden the playing video froze and there was a loud high pitched squeal coming from the speakers and some crackling, followed by another high pitched squeal from the speakers and then the computer froze.
I know it wasn't a fan noise or a hard drive noise, it was definitely a high pitched audio tone and crackling from the speakers when it hung up. The only way I could make it stop is to hold down the power button and turn it the iMac off. I wonder if it could have been my photo collage screensaver kicking in while the hulu video was playing fullscreen that caused something to lock up? It seems like it was in the timeframe from when I walked away from the computer to the time it crashed.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust bought a new monitor and hooked it up to my MBA. Screen saver looks fine but the page is displayed off screen far left and the cursor is not visible at all. Works fine with my Powerbook so I don't think it's a monitor problem. Are there settings which could be wrong?
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I wiped OS X out and installed XP alone. I used the Leopard disc to install the necessary drivers and everything seems to work well except for my second monitor.
I have an HP w1907 connected to my MBP through DVI, and I followed my usual process of:
Right Click on Desktop > Properties > Settings > Click on second monitor > Click "Extend Desktop to this device" ...and nothing seems to happen. I've tried changing the resolution, unplugging the monitor and trying again, but I can't get any result.
