View 4 RepliesI play movies stored on my iMac through my speaker system and HDTV using a Mini Display to HDMI cable plugged into my reciever. I'm currently piecing together a 5.1 seperates system but currently only have the front left, front right and centre speakers (3.0). I've played around to try and get the iMac to output though all three speakers but the audio only comes through the left and right channels and ignores the centre speaker completely. Even when I set the output in the 'Audio MIDI Setup' to 5.1 it still doesn't recognise a centre channel.Stereo output is fine but it would be nice to get the centre speaker in use rather than just sitting there in silence.

Is there a way to have the sound output from both the built-in speaker as well as my line out speakers at the simultaneously on the Mac Pro? So far I've only been able to choose one or the other.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do you get sound output from BOTH a USB speaker and the headphone jack at the same time? I am trying to drive a headphone speaker driven wireless speaker on my deck while still have audio on my imac.

I have a 2.1 Logitech Z4 setup, and the sound is only coming out of the left speaker. I have checked the wires, they are fine, and both speakers do work - but it could be the socket that's the problem. It's plugged into the line-in socket, I have put the output in System Preferences to Headphones, and everything is inserted correctly.
What do I do?
EDIT: My sound system is plugged into the headphones jack. I have tried putting headphones into the headphone jack and the sound also only comes out of the left earbud.
I have already tried using Qtips, other end of match sicks, cleaning the headphone jack with alcohol and a little jiggling with the other end of the plastic ballpen still ni audio from the Mac's speaker and the Built in output still active.

Peculiar problem. My sound suddenly switched to being internal speaker only, even though I have decklink HD Extreme card and was using it as my audio output the night before. Narrowed the problem down to anything being plugged in to the firewire ports - FW400 and FW800 ports and drives or even my Mini DV deck. When I plug anything into the firewire ports, trying to get to the sound settings in system preferences hangs, and all sound will only work on the internal speaker. This is a sudden problem and leaves me only being able to plug in esata external hard drives. There is some sort of conflict going on somewhere.
Mac Pro 2008
Mac Osx 10.5.8
Decklink HD Extreme card
Recently installed LaCie eSATA II PCI Express Card.
Use the machine mostly for video editing, so really need the external HDs.
I was watching a movie today, and noticed a dot on the screen. I scrubbed it hardcore, and it didn't go away. I freaked out because it might be a stuck pixel. After close observation, there are tiny extensions (probably its feet) around the 1-2 pixel size bug. I've taken a screen capture, but the bug is not displayed on it. Is it actually a bug? Should I take the glass off and exterminate the thing?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a one month old "late 2011 model" unibody Macbook Pro where the HDMI output just suddenly stopped working with no changes in configuration. I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, switched HDMI cables, cold rebooting everything, tried different HDMI ports, different resolutions on the TV and switched audio output settings, nothing works. When I plug the cable in the Mac switches resolutions, recognizes the TV in the Displays preference panel and correctly identifies it as a Toshiba, but doesn't send any audio or video signals to the TV.

New mac convert, I have had my iMac aluminum keyboard for 3 months and the keys are getting a tiny bit grubby. I am thinking I can turn off, unplug, spray a mild cleaner on a soft cloth and clean it up, but I cannot find a single source anywhere on the web that confirms this is ok. Is there any reason I can't do this?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI woke up this morning and tried to watch a linked video on a webpage. I saw the video, but there was no sound (this had not been a problem the evening before). I am using USB soundsticks, so I checked to make sure that they were plugged in, and they were. I opened iTunes and sound came through the Soundsticks; I switched to the internal speaker and it worked there as well. When I tried the same with another embedded video, however, I only got sound from the internal speaker.
Has anyone had a similar problem or does anyone know how to fix this?
Macbook Pro suddenly has no sound output. The menu for sound is greyed out. System preferences/sound doesn't alow me to set volume or mute.Â

The tower speaker just doesn't cut it and I want to hook up my 5.1 Locitech speaker system. I couldn't find any Mac sound cards on newegg and am having trouble finding results anywhere else. What card is recommended by most Mac Pro users? My professions isn't in audio so it doesn't have to be perfect, just something to play games, music, and movies.

Its very noticeable when you play around in your balance settings (max left or max right) that the volumes are different.
Long story short, My iMac stuffed up not long ago so I sent it to Apple to get it fixed (Apple Store Chadstone), I called them a week later, and Ive been told that they were still working on it. A few days later I called again, they finally found the issue (sort of) and decided to replace the logic board..anyway, I said OK, they later called me back saying they have replaced it but a new problem occurred, the audio/speaker is not functioning etc I said well I will just take it back and fix it myself because I need it for work, I took it back and this is what I found so far: iMacs serial number is gone! Oh also, on the repair report paper, it says I purchased this iMac on March 11 2009(March 11 is my birthday BTW), but I actually bought it in Nov 2008, so according to Apple Store, my iMac is now officially out of warranty.

iMac 27"
2.8 GHz Quad Core i7
8GB DDR3 SDRAM 2x4
2TB Serial ATA Drive
ATI Radeon HD 4850
Actually, still moving into it from the old one, haven't spent allot of time on it, hard to get out of the old one with my photoshop work. Anyhow, whats a good external speaker system for it? I find myself with the volume maxed out on the internal iMac speakers now, don't think it's too good to keep doing that. Is the amp in the iMac my only control over volume? Can I buy a speaker system of very good quality that may have amps within them so I can get more volume to them? I have a real top end stand alone stereo system, but doubt the iMac iTunes can be run through that.
I have a creative 5.1 speaker setup and just recently found my old sound blaster external card from my PC from years ago. I went on the creative website to try and download drivers for it and their weren't any (surprise, surprise). So I've been trying to figure out how to use my speaker setup so I can watch movies from iTunes in 5.1 surround sound. When I plug in the card through USB the sound tab in the system preferences reads it as the SB Live! card (which it is).
Then when I go to the Audio MIDI Setup, it also reads the card and the speakers I have connected to it. When I go the configure speakers tab, it shows them and all when I click on them to test them, it shoots out noise through each speaker. But when I go back to iTunes and enable surround sound in a movie, nothing happens. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there any software I can download so I can use my speakers?
I have yet to buy external speakers for my intel IMac, however, I am noticing more and more a very annoying "crackling or popping" every so often... random "crack/pop"... what is going on? The machine is still under warranty if this is a serious problem... but boy it really is annoying when it happens.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI am running leopard on an iMac 24" and am having trouble getting my iSight camera to record audio on 2 channels. I have changed my audio input to line in (inbuilt input) in order to record using a better microphone than the inbuilt one in my iMac, and am running a Shure microphone into the input in the back of my iMac via XLR to 1/4" stereo jack cable and then through a 1/4" to 1/8" stereo jack adapter. However when recording video in Photo Booth, iMovie etc. the audio only plays back out of the left speaker. It is not a problem with the output because all of my other sounds (music from itunes for example) play fine out of both left and right speakers. I believe I have run everything into the computer just fine and I can get 2 channels when recording like this in Garageband and Logic.

I've introduced them to iTunes and they are learning how to buy music, but naturally the internal speakers aren't very good (although they are better than I thought they would be). I'm looking for 2.0 or 2.1 setups, preferably something with a sleek, minimalistic, industrial design (and decent sound quality). Price range is $<100.
Here are some I'm looking at:

I was in iTunes when I heard a slight grinding sound form the speaker area and I thought nothing of it. About 5 minutes later I was watching a youtube video and the grinding got louder to the point where I could no longer hear the video. I immediately powered the iMac down and upon reboot process, the grinding sound could be heard again. After the booting process, the sound is gone. I am wondering what it was and if I should waste my time taking it in to an Apple Repair Shop
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that the sound of my 21.5" iMac speakers kinda changes notably when I'm using Windows (BootCamp). Compared to the sound while using Snow Leopard, it sound very thin, bass-less and... just strange. More like MacBook speakers, or just small speakers. Another thing is that the headphone input doesn't work on Windows. Could these issues be related to audio drivers? I don't know much about that sort of stuff.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just ordered the 27" iMac. Trying to figure out the best way to do output to TV. There 2 approaches I would suspect.... but since the 27" display signal is 2560x1440 (HDTV can only go up to 1080p).
I don't know of any adapter or TV that can support this resolution. Will the signal come in only partially displayed
1) Wireless
Atlonas - HDAIR wireless usb to HDMI/VGA with audio
http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/21/a...gains-audio-u/
pros+: one connection for audio and video, usb, easy setup, hdmi out, wireless
cons-: reported sucky framerates, max res is 1440x1220 (720p), not mac compatible (so will req bootcamp/vmfusion/parallels - windows).
2) Wired
Would need the following
mini displayport + toslink audio + usb to hdmi out
1) [url]
50ft hdmi cable
2) [url]
I heard 50feet is about the limit of HDMI for 1080p if you don't want to mess with amplifiers to correct signal lost.
