OS X :: IMac G4 Won't Boot Up - Apple Blue Screen

Aug 9, 2009

I have a fifteen inch 800 MHZ 768 MB ram iMac G4 and for some reason it won't boot up. The apple screen shows up, goes away and then the screen is apple-blue with the cursor you can move around. I left it on overnight and it didn't get past the apple-blue screen. What do I do?

OS X :: Imac G5 1.6ghz Not Boot Past Blue Screen

Jun 2, 2009

My imac will not boot past the blue screen. It crashed whilst loading a new application which I downloaded from the mac website, had to force a shutdown as it wasn't responding, and now it will not boot no matter what I try. I have searched for answers on the forums but my mac will not respond to any keyboard commands even with the installation dvd inserted. I don't get the startup chime anymore either.

IMac :: Won't Boot Past Apple Screen

Mar 5, 2010

I have one of the old blue PowerMac G3 computers, and I kept getting a kernel panic, so I reset the RAM and now when I start up the computer, it stops at the apple screen without even spinning. I've tried booting it in single user mode, and for some reason it doesn't make a difference what keys I hit while turning on the computer. It still boots to the apple screen.

It is just stuck on the Apple Logo screen with the spinny thing, that stops spinning!

OS X :: IMac Won't Boot - Apple Logo And Lingering Grey Screen

Oct 30, 2008

I had been using my iMac all night, when all of a sudden the bouncing beach ball appeared and everything became unresponsive, apart from the mouse cursor itself. It might be worth noting that a few hours prior to this, I plugged in an external hard drive to burn off a DVD. This external hard drive has two partitions, the first being a restored image of Leopard; and the second, my out of date backup ("yes, I know").

I subsequently restarted my machine, enjoyed the chime, pondered the excessively long start up and looked bemused at the Leopard Setup wizard. I realised that the restored Leopard partition had booted up instead of the internal disc. So, I unplugged the external drive, pressed reset on the iMac and was immediately greeted first by the reassuring chime, then by the Apple logo and a lingering grey screen and finally by a flashing dark folder icon with a question mark in the centre for eternity.

I tried rebooting a few more times. Same. I've been frantically Googling but only found the PRAM reset and a very frightening iMac disassembly guide. I've tried plugging the external drive back it, but it refuses to boot Leopard from that now. What can I do? I feel so helpless on a Mac, on a PC I'd at least be able to open the sucker up before panicking! I've been working on a client's flash web dev project for months, and not made a back up in about half that time. The website is supposed to be going live tomorrow! Luckily I have the site uploaded, but the entire source code is potentially lost, so in the long term this is a major catastrophe!

Software :: Intel IMac Won't Boot Up - Freezes On Grey Screen Or Apple Symbol?

May 14, 2008

Got my 24" 2.4GHz iMac on release last year, with Tiger. Installed Leopard on it on release day.

The problem I have is that ever since a botched Boot Camp installation I've had endless problems with certain applications hanging during their startup (notably Image Capture) or refusing to quit (notably iTunes). Force Quit doesn't resolve these issues. Restarting doesn't work because Force Quit can't quit them so I have to pull the plug or otherwise force a shutdown.

Upon restarting I either get the grey screen that instantly appears, or, if I've pulled the plug and left it for a few minutes I can get to the Apple symbol but no spinner or any further start up action. Occasionally I get lucky, get back up and running, and all is well until the next crash.

All this started happening when I decided to try installing Windows on Boot Camp again. I've had it on here a couple of times since Leopard was released but usually end up deleting it eventually because either the Windows installation gets bogged down or I get bored with it and never use it. Anyway, this time, using the same discs I've always used (and yes, it's SP2, so it should be fine and anyway it's worked at least twice before) when I got to the 'restart to continue installing Windows' bit, I got the white screen and nothing happened. After an hour or so of praying and restarting endlessly trying to get a response, I finally got it to recognise my OSX installation and was up and running again. The Boot Camp volume didn't appear to be there and Disk Utility revealed zero problems whatsoever. Everything looked fine until these recurring hangs, refusals to quit apps and screwed up start-ups.

Any ideas? I don't have the expensive Apple support, but it's less than a year old! Of course, I realise that this means nothing to Apple, who seem to think I should pay a premium in order to have my machine warrantied by them for more than 90 days. Grr...

If I get it up and running I'm thinking I should just wipe the ENTIRE system absolutely clean and re-install Leopard and then use my Time Machine backup to put all my data back on (pricelessly valuable as I use the machine to work on my photography with), but I'm concerned that if there's a flaw in the System somewhere, a corruption, that installing the Time Machine backup will just reintroduce the error. On the other hand, if it's a deeply embedded and invisinle partition corruption from the bad Boot Camp installation attempt, that should be fixed by wiping the entire drive to reinstall Leopard, right?

PowerPC :: Load Up The Blue Screen With The Apple Logo, But Then The Screen Goes Black Or Flickers?

Feb 4, 2008

I am looking at purchasing an Ibook G4 but the description of the item includes this:"When you switch it on it begins to load up i.e. the blue screen with the Apple logo, but then the screen goes black or flickers. Said friend has kindly wiped the hard drive for me so now when you switch it on it makes the opening noise then you get a blue screen with alternating ? and the Finder logo."

I have a feeling this may have been a temporary fault with the screen connector being loose and possibly damaged. But i assume the alternating "?" and the "finder logo" is simply a lack of OS?

Dec 26, 2008

just installed 10.5.6 on their last gen. iBook. She left the iBook plugged in to the mains and came back to find that the iBook was alternating between the grey Apple screen and a light blue desktop screen where she could see the cursor. Sometimes it would also switch to a blue screen without a cursor.

I've tried holding shift during startup - no effect.
I've tried rebooting NVRAM - no effect.

MacBook Pro :: Grey Screen No Apple Followed By Blue Screen With Vertical Lines?

Nov 30, 2014

grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (I think  it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Boot Pass The Blue Screen?

Jan 6, 2011

My macbook pro cannot boot pass the blue screen, all startup keys failed to work [URL]. If all I need is one successful boot to copy all my files off the hard disk. Should I:

A. leave it as it is and hope for the blue screen will eventually go away;

B. keep rebooting and hope for the computer will boot up correctly by chance; or

C. Power off and unplug everything, leave it overnight and try booting it again next morning?

I've heard some people could get their computer back to normal just by option C, which sounds weird to me. Is that possible? How does that work?

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Won't Boot Beyond Blue Screen?

Dec 13, 2007

After installing an app ('Detour') I was asked to (or it was suggested that I should) restart my computer. I did so, and now my 1.33GHz iBook G4 turns on - but it will not go any further than a blank blue screen (after the initial grey screen that appears.) Thankfully, all my data is on an external drive. I keep my music and footage which I have shot on there amongst other things. I also have a backup on my external via Time Machine of all my data which I keep on the iBook drive, so nothing should be lost.

OS X :: Macbook Won't Boot Up Past Blue Screen

May 16, 2009

I hardly ever turn off my Macbook unless i need to - I just close it and use it whenever i need to. I let the battery run dry as Apple suggests to do every now and again, and turned it on the next day. It started to boot and took a little longer to get past the grey apple logo and loading circle and then froze on the blue screen. I can control the mouse, but every few seconds it changes to a darker blue, cursor disappears but returns after a second or two. I've tried:

- Booting into safe mode (Same thing happens)
- Booting from CD and repairing permissions (Said everything was ok, same thing happens when I booted)
- Single user mode (used some commands from an Apple page and restarted)

I can however boot into windows perfectly fine, which leads me to suspect it's a corrupt log in item. I'd like to know for sure it's not a hardware problem so I don't have to take it into an Apple Store.

MacBook Pro :: Boot Stalls Blue Screen?

May 16, 2012

Mbp had a kernel error and would not boot so I took it to Apple store and they said it needed new harddrive. I installed a new hard drive and 8gb of ram while i was at it.When trying to install the OS on the new hd, it would stall at random points every time, so I made another appointment at the Apple store. The morning of my appointment I managed to get the OS to install but then it froze in the setup stage so I went ahead and went to my appointment. This time they suggested it was the hd cable, so I got that replaced and the mbp was working fine when the guy brought it back out to me.When i got home i tried to install Snow Leapord, it froze, and now I cant do anything. Now when it boots I get the apple logo screen with a loading circle underneath for about 1 minute, and then it goes to alternating between blue screens, one with a loading circle and one without.I've tried all the basic bs stuff and nothing has changed?

OS X :: Won't Boot In Safe Mood / Only Boots To A Blue Screen

Aug 24, 2010

I just go a new Macbook Pro 13' from my school (my school made it mandatory to get a mac this year) and I was installing some of my applications. Then I got the "You need to restart your computer" message. I restarted, and all i got was a blue screen with my pointer. Then after a while it says the same restart message. Also I have tried booting from the Snow Leopard Disk, but I get the same message before the actual SL installer comes up. I have been able to get the Macbook to boot in safe mode and I repaired permissions and the disk, however that does not seem to help. I have also reset the PRAM and that did nothing. I am running out of ideas... how can I fix this? I am using 10.6.4.

Software :: G4 IBook Won't Boot Past Blue Screen

Oct 4, 2009

I am trying to reformat an iBook for a friend. Everything was running, but, there was no chime on boot. I logged into the machine, and was checking files and folders when it locked up. It actyally locked up while trying to run Microsoft Word. It now boots to a grey screen the the little "spinning" thing, and then, instead of going to the login screen, it just turns blue. It will NOT boot into Safe Mode, it will NOT boot to the iBook Install CD, I just get the same blue screen using both methods. I used Command-Option-P-R without success. I booted to Open Firmware and typed reset-nvram without success. I don't know what else to try. I am copying her files right now by booting into Target Disk mode, but, once I get that done, I still won't be able to boot the install disc to get the system wiped and reinstalled. What else can I do to correct this?

OS X :: Stuck On Blue Screen And Gray Gear Spinning On Boot Up?

Mar 30, 2009

Everything was fine until this morning when i came into work, started up my Macbook as usual from sleep mode. was able to use OS X for a little while, had to leave to go onsite so i locked my screen (i use sizzle keys and made Command + L to lock my screen to the log on prompt). as soon as the cube spins to the logon screen, BOOM, all i see is the solid light blue screen just sit there. i walk away and 5 minutes later, it's still on there, can't recover or go back to my desktop, so i force shut down (hit the power button, and attempt to reboot the OS X. then thats when it all gets bad. Everytime i boot into OS X it just sits there with the blue screen and flickers back and forth with the gray gear wheel spinning and so forth.

Ok, so next check, i go to boot into my Boot Camp partition into Vista. no problems, was able to boot in my boot camp partition without any problems (im typing this in boot camp at this moment.)

So far i've been able to boot into my Boot Camp and the OS X Restore Disc without any problems.

I booted into the OS X boot disc, and ran Disk Utility, ran the perrmissions check and the disk check and both fixed problems aparently on my OS X partition. went to boot back into OS X, blue screen.

So now i do the PRAM and NVRAM reset doing Command+Option+P+R and again booted into OS X. blue screen.

Booted into Safe Mode (Safe Boot) took awhile, but again. stuck at blue screen and if i press any keys or move the mouse, the grey gear spins for like 10 seconds and just goes back to the blue screen. and the process goes over and over again.

(later on this afternoon) I even ran FSCK to check the volume for problems. "it appears to be OK"

The good thing atleast in this situation is that i can access my OS X partition in Vista (via MacDrive) without any problems, so if having to reload my previous Time Machine backup (which stupid me forgot to back up my system over 60 days ago ) or having to just Archive my OS X and reinstall it, that will have to be my final choice. But i don't REALLY want to have to do this all over again if at all possiable.
