IMac :: How To Use Super Duper To Make Full Backup
Aug 12, 2010
Im gonna use Super Duper for the first time to make a full backup of my system. I wanna know if the full backup option copies the system files of Mac OS X. I just read on the manual that it doesnt. I was hoping it would copy everything.
For example, my OS X is 10.6.4. If I do the full backup will the 6.4 update backup too or when restoring the full backup I will need to update again from 6.2?

Gotta give back my MBP to work on Monday and am trying to figure out the best way to clone my entire hard drive to a T so when I buy my new MBP on Tuesday I can just copy eveything over and work on a system like i never had to switch.
I really really need my fonts and programs with serials etc. Will all these copy seamlessly over? Also, how easy is it to copy over. I have never used the program and am weary of losing some of my important files.

I want to clone my iMac's internal HDD to an external one, erase the internal one, then restore the clone to it (to solve a Bootcamp partition error).
So in Super Duper, do I want to cope the HDD to a disk image, or to the external HDD?
As I understand it, when I have my back-up ready on my external, I need to reboot with the Leopard installer, open Disk Utility, select Restore, choose the source Disk Image (on my external HDD), then select the internal as the destination.

What would be the best way to apply back the clone created by Carbon Copy or Super Duper to Mac Pro
1. Boot from Mac Pro and then restore from the clone, or
2. Boot from the clone and then restore

I just bought a Western Digital 1To drive to back up my iMac, my girlfriend's MacBook, and my other external hardrive on which I put all my videos.
Since I already use Time Machine with an other smaller drive, I would like to use that new 1To drive to be my master bakcup system, with bootable disk image of the two computers. I bought SuperDuper to do all that, but I'm not quite sure how to best use it.
Basically, I'd like to do a total backup of the two computers once a month, as well as back up the files on m multimedia hard drive.

I was going to buy Super Duper because i keep hearing about it, but i looked at CCC, but as far as i can tell they do the same things now. Bootable backups, incremental updating, scheduling, etc. Are there any advantages of SD that i'm missing?
And while i'm asking, can these handle bootcamp partitions? as far as i see, they can't.

My older MBP is running very slow, and I have tried all the usual ways of making it run quicker - repair permissions, repair disk from Lion recovery partition, remove extraneous files, checking Activity Monitor, etc. etc. Someone suggested reformatting the HD and then restoring from a backup. I have the HD cloned to an external HD with Super Duper, but if I reformat the internal HD and restore from the clone, won't the problems that caused the issue in the first place just be cloned into SD and then restored to the reformatted internal drive, thus defeating the excercise?

I just want to let you know that I am really thankful for your help.
This is a 3-year old iMac version 10.4.11
I upgraded Safari as recommended a few days ago, and since then, Safari has not worked at all. At the same time, I was warned that my startup disk was full. Following the advice from some other mac help sites, I cleared the copies of my iTunes library to free space. I now have 6.72 Gigs of free space on my hard drive, but my computer is still running super slow. Just about every other thing I click on in Firefox gives me the rainbow wheel.
I ran Techtools and everything passed but the Directory Scan and Volume Structure.
As soon as a friend can loan me a hard drive, I was planning on backing up everything and re-installing. Is this the best thing to do, or is there something else to try first?

I have a MacBook Air and a Time Capsule - both from november 2011.Using Time Machine is givning me som problems. It works fine for some days, an is backing up as planned. But at least 5 times since I got the Time Capsule, Time Machine is asking to make a full Backup, and when I look in Time Machine, it says that there is no "old backup". It has been runing since november 2011.When I start a new backup, as it ask for, it takes at least 24 hours to finish - some times even longer. Is this normal? If not, what do I do?

After some problems with Time Machine backup, I removed a bunch of stuff from my internal hard drive, reformatted my external HD used for backups, and started a new full backup. Time Machine has been running for about 24 hours and gives me a status of Backing up: xx GB of yy GB. Both xx and yy keep growing (apace) so that I don't believe xx will ever equal yy.
To cryptic? Here are real numbers. My internal disk being backed up contains 469.39 GB. Backup status now says Backing up: 685.78GB of 754.42 GB. Both numbers just keep growing. I'm happy to let Time Machine overnight (again) but, really, this can't be normal.

I was looking for an external hard drive to backup my photos/music collection. I was hoping to stick with Western Digital in 1TB capacity.
Do I have to buy one of their hard drives that says specifically on the box "For MAC" or can I buy any Western Digital Hard Drive.
My concern is that it won't work with Time Machine.

Is there a way to update a super duper clone that I have on a portable external from my Time machine backups? It would simplify my backup protocol a lot, I travel with a live clone in case my system crashes.
When I'm at home I backup tirelessly to a time machine drive connected to my server. I would love to be able to just dock my portable with my server and be able to update my clone easily.

My friend gave me his old Apple cube G4 + 15" Cinema display in like 1000 pieces. Its completely teared apart. I tried a lot, but it doesn't work. The original IDE cable wasn't included, so I bought one for 2 cents. It should work or not? Maybe the powersupply. I'm not sure. I don't believe actually that the hardware itself, like the motherboard is broken. When everything is into place and I connect the cube to the powersupply it boots immediately. I don't have to do anything. Harddrive spins and the superdrive makes some noise as well. This repeats itself every 5 seconds. The screen is connected and gets power through DVI, but no display. Both the cube and display have touch enabled buttons to switch it on, but they do not respond (I guess).. Motherboard gives 2 light. DS1 is green, DS2 is red.

I'm not sure what the issue is, but my 20" iMac G5 PowerPC is running so hot and smelling very "electrical".
I took the case off the back of it, and it seems where the G5 metal portion (not sure what it's called) is the source of all the heat. I can't really put my finger on it for more than a couple seconds because it's so hot.
Some recent things I've done was lube the fan, and replaced the RAM. I got the RAM per the Crucial ram identifier program that runs on the computer and lets you know which type to purchase.

I recently switched from Windows, and while I love OSX overall, I miss the ability to make a window fill the screen. I don't want to do it all the time, but want to be able to do it when I'm focusing on a single program, or want to use as much screen real estate as possible.
Are there any plugins, programs, or Automator settings that would allow me to do this?

I just bought my new IMac on friday. Worked great for a day and then I had a problem. The fan came on really loud for about a good 10 secs and the screen turned off. I hit the power button and the screen came back on quickly like it had went to sleep. However, the fan came right back on very loud and the screen went black. I did this a couple times until I just let it shut down for an hour because I thought it overheated.
The next time I turned it on it worked fine for about 3 hours and suddenly the fan came on super loud. This time the screen didn't shut off and I was able to continue but it was abnormally loud. This morning I turned it on again and within a minute the fan came on AGAIN. I have to mention that I'm not using any intensive application or anything. The last time I think I only had safari up. Also, this is my first mac and it's not looking promising...

how to use the super-drive?
I received a new late 2013 iMac with 27" Monitor, track pad and super-drive. My problem is with learning to use the super drive.
It shows on my monitor and I rename the disc (i.e. Backup 1). I drag the files to the disc folder. Then I eject the disc. When I re-insert the disk it shows blank disk. However the original renamed folder still shows on the monitor with the files and they can be moved to other folders.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3), also have VMware Fusion 5.0

My question is... Is there a "skin" or app or plugin that will take make Photobooth FULL SCREEN? I want it to hide the operating system... just full on Photobooth action.

I would like to make my Firefox fullscreen (without the Mac Taskbar on top), but I can find a viable solution. When researching a few places, I found out that there is an bundle called "Megazoomer" and it requires Simbl.
Once I run the installer of Simbl and dragged the Megazoomer into my Library/Application Support folder. It doesn't work. It just makes a sfx noise that nothing is working.
When I press cmd + enter, it won't work. I don't know what I am doing wrong.
I am running Leopard on a 2.33 Ghz MacBook Pro.
