Trying to get a sense of whether or not the Imac screen may be too tall for my desk, which already has an elevated section for monitor placement. Can someone who has a 24 inch Imac tell me how many inches up from the base the screen is (not counting the lip)?

The screen should preferably be 16:9, and have as high a resolution as possible. One option could be this Dell screen, but with some sort of a custom stand.

i'm thinking of an imac because i need a new computer and can use my 23" display somewhere else
but i'm not sure i'd like to go down in monitor size with the 21" imac and worry the 27 incher would be too huge
i also worry about eye strain as i do suffer from that occasionally (basically from over viewing)
and wonder if the 27'' would exasperate that.
Silly question but i have a samsung syncmaster 2493HM, its my beloved 1080p monitor and has served me well.
Im getting an iMac very soon and looking at the pictures and some videos the screen doesn't look 24". The aluminum bit at the bottom seems to take a lot of space up making the screen look small.
Is the iMac screen as big as my samsungs?

View 17 Replies View RelatedI've begun to notice a ring, roughly three inches in diameter, in the middle of my Air, Rev C, Screen. It is a white ring, a couple of millimeters thick,that I can see best behind an all white screen, i.e. a blank page of a word processing document.
Anyone seen anything like this before. I can actually see part of it right on the white of the page I am typing in this thread.

I purchased a new MBP from Apple's website and noticed that the screen is not aligned to the base. It do not look normal at all as the laptop itself is not fixed properly. This is bothering me every time I open or close the laptop as it is very obvious.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just noticed them today. You can't feel them unless you run a bare nail across them. They're along the black plastic portion of the 15" Macbook pro (late 2008 model) at the base of the screen. The computer is less than a year old and I rarely ever actually move the notebook. It spends most of its time on a stand at a desk in my office. Other than that it goes out once ever few weeks to talk to clients.
I don't know what could've caused the cracks. I'm thinking it could be heat related. I just looked into it today and noticed that my cpu was sitting around 200F. I installed a FanControl which has help pretty significantly, but it doesn't seem to ever go away.
Since I'm sure that the cracks are not caused by misuse, it leads me to believe it might be something wrong with the computer. The smooth operation of this machine is crucial so if there's something wrong, I'd like to try and catch it early.
I've looked around and apparently everyone's saying their macbook air runs really cool. The problem is, mines always warm... It usually doesn't get hot unless I'm watching a full screen video, but it's always warm. Is this normal? mention I have the 13 inch base model.

Do I need to get the AEBS, or will an iMac work with my existing router? And I need to keep my 2WIRE router, so how would I hook up an AEBS to the 2WIRE router? I've heard that you have to set the AEBS to 'bridge' mode or something. Can you also give detailed instructions on how to set up the AEBS with the 2WIRE router?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI cracked open my base 13 (2GB, 128, 1.83) and must say I'm pretty impressed. But I'm getting the feeling that I'm not going to use it that much. I've already got a 27" iMac and a 32GB iPad. But I'd still like a MBA because they are fantastic machines. I'm thinking I want to swap out my 13 for a base 11 and save the $300.

I currently have a wireless setup in my house using the IMac as a base station. I have this setup through the "Sharing" tab in System Preferences. I have an ITouch that I then connect to this network and surf the web downstairs, etc. It works great!
I purchased a new Airport Express that I want to plug in downstairs next to the stereo and then use Airtunes to play music over the stereo downstairs. This Airport Express would connect wirelessly to the IMac base station, just like the ITouch does. I also need to still be use the Itouch with this configuration.
I bought a new iMac and it connected to AirPort Base Station, internet works fine on it. However, when I connect my MacBook to the wireless network, it doesn't let me go on the internet. I checked the status of the router through AirPort Utility. (Status: Conflicting DHCP Range) I don't know how to fix this.

I just have a few questions and I'd appreciate any answers I could get. Will the base model be sufficient for my needs? Mainly going to be web browsing and using it as a media station with iTunes. The only thing I'm not sure of is ripping blu-rays. How long would it take to do a 1080p rip on the base model iMac and would the base model be sufficient enough to play back these rips? I'm currently having issues on my hp laptop even playing back 720p blu-ray rips.

The 13 inch seems perfect for that type of usage, but of course apple had to ruin my plans of getting arrandale in that form factor. Is the 15 inch screen size too big? I have a network that is made of up a Time capsule as a base station and 3 airport express's used to extend my wifi coverage. It is setup as a roaming network with each express hardwired to the base time capsule. I have a iMac that will not connect to the base station, it will only connect to one of the remote express's. The iMac is next to the base satation. Other mac notebooks, iPhone or iPads all connect to the base station when they are near it. Only my iMac will not connect to it.

i noticed it happens especially when is taken form down to up or up to down lik for instance form my lap to the desk, which is about 10cm change of hights. the screen goes black, and when I touch the track pad it goes on again and ask me for the login pasword. once in all the programs are on as they were before stand by..
I have checked the system report and i dont have any SAS device installed in the computer, so how does this happen?

I have a very lovely and presently not working Cinema Display 24 inches.
Here is what it is doing.
When connected to my Mac it shows up as a valid screen in the Monitors System preference and if I am not mirroring displays my mouse and windows can be placed in this 'space'.
However there is not any on LED power light nor does the USB/Firewire port function.
What is odd, is this is intermittent. It used to be dark for a bit but mostly on. Now it is dark 99% of the time, and occassionaly comes to life.
When it comes to life, it is bright, and clear. So the lamp is more than likely OK.
The power supply has been tested with another unit and it is not power supply (external) related.
I have thought it could be the inverter board which is a part I can buy cheaply and repair. However I was told my LCD is more symptomatic of the LCD panel being bad.
Apple wants a $450 fee to diagnose that would be applied towards repairs, but at that cost, it is almost worth getting the new LED model. I would prefer to fix it in a more economical manner.
Does anyone know of what could be causing my set of symptoms and/or a reliable LCD repair source preferably in the NY/NJ region?
I would prefer to have some idea of a diagnosis before I go and buy invetertor boards and A/D boards. However I can replace the power supply, inverter and A/D board for under $300 so that is abetter option than Apple's. However if the LCD panel is in fact dead, then it is a lost cause. New panels are very hard to find.
When i bought my macbook, it has a small crack on the lower right hand corner about 2-3 inches away from the trackpad, ive tried to find a new piece, i think its called a bottom bezzel? I may have that wrong, but does anyone know where i can get a new piece from? The crack isnt major or anything, just a little annoying. I dont need the bottom piece, just the gray part that goes over the keyboard If anyone knows where i can get one,

With the i3 I can get the student discount and qualify for the ipod, but the i5 is 23% off right now. Which should I get? Also is there a benefit of getting a 5 series graphics card over a 4 series graphics card?

So, I am going to be selling my late 2008 15" MacBook Pro this week to get a new 27" iMac and I just need some legitimate advice from those "in the know" on processors.
I plan on having this iMac for about 3 years to do the following tasks:
1.) Record and edit HD cable (1080i) from an Elgato EyeTV HD - will include some encoding of 2+ hour sports game recordings
2.) Some light editing of 720p iPhone 4 clips in iMovie
3.) Surf the web, iTunes, iPhoto, Mail, and all the other standard stuff
Assuming budget is an issue, would you recommend me spending the extra money for a Quad Core i5 iMac or would I be ok based on the info above just going with the base Dual Core i3 model?
Like, will there be a considerable difference in the two machines (factoring in processor and graphics card) that will really be worth the extra $300 - $400 for 3 years of use?
