MacBook Air :: Difference Going From A Base 13 To A Base 11?

Nov 1, 2010

I cracked open my base 13 (2GB, 128, 1.83) and must say I'm pretty impressed. But I'm getting the feeling that I'm not going to use it that much. I've already got a 27" iMac and a 32GB iPad. But I'd still like a MBA because they are fantastic machines. I'm thinking I want to swap out my 13 for a base 11 and save the $300.

MacBook Pro :: Base 2.26 13" HDD Is Smaller Than Base?

Nov 5, 2009

I just realized something. Isn't it weird how Apple is offering a larger hard drive for the base MacBook and a smaller hard drive for the base MacBook Pro? The MacBook comes with a 250GB HDD and the Pro comes with a 160GB HDD.

Mac Mini :: Is There Noticeable Difference Between 2 And 4 GB On The Mini Base Model

Mar 10, 2009

I'm sitting here thinking I made a mistake by being cheap and just upgrading the base model to 2 GB when virtually everyone else is going for 4 GB... I do realize that this is mainly because most people choose to upgrade themselves, and then there's no point in not installing 4 GB. The thing is that I don't think I would benefit at all from having 4 instead of 2 GB of memory, since I won't be doing any "heavy" work on it whatsoever.

I might use Photoshop now and then, but that's about it, and that works just fine on my current MacBook with 2 GB ram (white 2006 model). Also, my memory usage most often shows that I have 1,2 GB of free memory, which isn't even close to "maxing" it. I've been looking for benchmarks comparing these two configurations, but I couldn't find any. I know that it's quite easy to upgrade it yourself later, but I'd rather avoid it...

MacBook Air :: Slow Web Browsing With 11.6 Base Model Air?

Dec 16, 2010

I received my 11.6 base model Air today. So far everything has rocked about it except for one thing: web surfing. When it loads up pages it jitters when I scroll or will lag on my input. I'm thinking this could either be my WiFi connection, which is my parent's and I'm not use to these speeds, or if the Air is just not that good for web work.

MacBook Pro :: Dozens Of Tiny Hairline Cracks At The Base Of Screen?

Oct 4, 2009

I just noticed them today. You can't feel them unless you run a bare nail across them. They're along the black plastic portion of the 15" Macbook pro (late 2008 model) at the base of the screen. The computer is less than a year old and I rarely ever actually move the notebook. It spends most of its time on a stand at a desk in my office. Other than that it goes out once ever few weeks to talk to clients.

I don't know what could've caused the cracks. I'm thinking it could be heat related. I just looked into it today and noticed that my cpu was sitting around 200F. I installed a FanControl which has help pretty significantly, but it doesn't seem to ever go away.

Since I'm sure that the cracks are not caused by misuse, it leads me to believe it might be something wrong with the computer. The smooth operation of this machine is crucial so if there's something wrong, I'd like to try and catch it early.

MacBook Pro :: Sound Card - Beats And Base Fuzzy And Subdued

May 4, 2010

I have a 15" 1st gen UMBP and I've been having some issues with the sound. At first I thought I had blown my speakers, but it was such that I couldn't tell if I was just imagining it or if they were actually blown. Some of the beats and bass were kind of fuzzy and subdued. I had resigned myself to the fact that my speakers were blown and went on with my life, figuring I would get it checked out sometime. Then, last night I tried to listen to some music with my headphones (nice sennheisers) and it was clear that the bass was blown. At first I thought I had also blown my headphones, but then realized that it was probably my sound card (I don't know too much about sound cards).

I tested my headphones using my roommate's laptop, listening to the same songs and switching my headphones between computers, and it became clear that my headphones were working just fine and could handle deep bass and beats as normal. So: I'm pretty sure this means that the problem lies in my soundcard, leaving me with a couple questions:
1) How expensive of a fix is this going to be?
2) would a faulty or damaged soundcard be covered under apple's limited one year warranty?

MacBook Pro :: Wont Connect To Airport Base Station Anymore

Mar 25, 2012

all other machines have no problems. It worked earlier in the day-put to sleep-came back- now it can't something is wrong with network settings but nothing changed. Two PC's are connected to same cable/Airport base station wirelessly with no issues it's just my machine. I've rebooted a few times-that didn't help. i can get my macbook's airport to work with my wireless aircard so it's not my the internal wireless modem, it's got to be my wireless settings for the airport basestation itself-but nothing chagned in those few hours it was asleep? I have been having issues for a few weeks requiring that I run diagnosis on this home wireless network connection, but it usually gets resolved and coems back on-now it seems gone.

MacBook :: Won't Connect With Airport Bt Homehub / Doesn't Recognise Base Station

Dec 25, 2009

I have just acquired a second-hand iBook G3 (Mac OS X 10.3.9) and I can't connect to my BT HomeHub using the AirPort. I can connect using a cable and the previous owner had no problems with the AirPort. My PC is connected to the BT HomeHub fine.

The AirPort is on and I can see the correct BTHH network in the list. When I try to connect I get the error message "There was an error joining the AirPort network 'BTHomeHub etc." I know this is a common error message but I've been through lots of forums and haven't found any advice that has worked. I tried stuff like cleaning up the keychains and adding '$' to my password.

It could be a problem with my password, because I've tried the Admin password on the back of the hub, the Wireless key BT gave me on the 'Wireless Settings' card, and the password I use for wireless internet on my PC. Does anyone know which one ought to work?

When I go into the AirPort menu and click on Internet Connect, 'AirPort Power' is 'on', there is no signal, and it says 'Base Station ID: Not available'. Do I need to reset my Base Station?

If anyone can help I will be soooo grateful. Thanks.

**I'm a Mac newbie and I'm not a techie, so if you can help me, please be prepared to explain in detail**

OS X :: Connecting To Base Station Not By SSID?

Mar 3, 2009

Anyway, at my school, I tend to not have any problems getting on the wireless, except there is one place where I can get a connection to the wireless access point, but it will not give me an IP address. I tried release and renew on many occasions. I also tried restarting and all the regular stuff. My school's tech support was not too helpful.

I spoke to some people who have had similar issues and they said, that they have had it with some routers and not other. Because of the nature of the network, there are a lot of base stations all broadcasting with the same SSID. They suggested I try to connect to one of them.

The problem is, by default, OS X connects the station with a given SSID that has the strongest signal. Is there a way to connect to the other ones. Using a widget, I see the other base stations with the same SSID. How do I tell my computer to connect to those?

For what it is worth, I have a 2.2ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook with 2 gigs of Ram and all the latest versions of everything.

The NEW Base station doesn't have any WDS option, the only remote thing I can see is 'Allow Network To Be Extended' The OLD one does have the WDS option and requires the NEW router's MAC Address etc... If only I still had my Airport Express, or a longer ethernet cable!
