Hardware :: Comparable LED Monitor To Apple Display

Oct 25, 2009

I'm trying to stay on a budget here and $800 for a display is a little steep. Is there a manufacturer like samsung or Dell that has a similar display to what Apple is offering but for a fraction of the cost.Something 22"+

Hardware :: Get A New Dell Monitor Or A Used Apple Display?

Aug 25, 2007

I am in the market for a new display. I was thinking about getting a new dell one, but then again I love the looks of the Apple studio and cinema displays. Do you think it would be a mistake to buy a used Apple display, so long as it is in good condition? I have about $150-200 to spend

MacBook :: Not Working With Monitor (Apple Cinema Display)

Dec 31, 2010

I've been using my black macbook for several years with both my Apple Cinema Display and Panasonic TV with the Apple mini-dvi to dvi adapter, but today when I tried to hook my macbook up with the tv it didn't work. The Tv just showed a black picture and nothing happend when I un- and replugged the cable. I tried it on my ACD as well and the colors wasn't right on it. Some colors wasn't showing, eg red. Green and blue was OK. I'm suspecting the adapter to be the problem, 'cause I've tried everything (also in preferences) and been using this method for years! Any thoughts on the problem? Should I buy a new adapter or try something else?

Connection methods;
TV = mini-dvi to dvi, and dvi to hdmi
ACD = mini-dvi to dvi and dvi directly to the ACD

MacBook Pro :: Run A 27" Apple Cinema Display And Another Monitor?

Feb 21, 2012

I recently purchased a brand new 15"  MacBook Pro to replace my old one. I was told when ordering it that I would be able to hook up two external monitors to it using the Matrox DualHead2Go hardware. So, I also bought a 27" Cinema Display (non-Thunderbolt since it wouldn't work with the DH2Go). However, when I contacted Matrox they said their products don't support screens as large as the 27" ACD. how I can hookup a 27" Apple Cinema Display at 2560x1440 and a Acer 22" monitor at 1685x1050 (or, anything less really) to my new MacBook Pro? I've looked around and haven't been able to find a good answer.

Info:
Mac OS X (10.7.3)

PowerPC :: Using G4 With External Monitor (20" Apple Cinema Display)

My friend has a PowerBook G4 and he wants to connect it with an external 20" Apple Cinema display. His friend told him it was not possible to connect it, but I am not certain if this information is correct. He asked me to help advise him on this, but unfortunately I don't know enough about Apple hardware to give him the information he is looking for. I am wondering if anyone happens to know the answer on this.

Hardware :: Preferably Dell Monitor That's As Good As Apple Cinema Display?

Dec 14, 2009

I'm deciding to buy myself a new mac pro coming around Jan-Feb and since mac pro's cost sooo much I'm cutting money on every corner; from buying only on amazon to using magazine coupons. The biggest money waster in my opinion is the 22' Led Cinema display apple sells. It costs around 900$ to buy an apple display which hasn't been updated for 3+ years when new Dell monitors of the same size (with camera installed and quality optional speakers) cost roughly about 400 max? I know apple displays are premium but extra 500 bucks is ridiculous.

Hardware ::Wireless Keyboard, Apple Mouse - Cinema Display HD 23" Monitor

Mar 9, 2010

1) Are there any plans from Apple to produce a WIRELESS keyboard WITH keypad? To be specific: a new keyboard with the exact same interface/layout of the regular keyboard with numeric keypad, only WIRELESS.2) Is the Wireless Apple Mouse (AKA Wireless Mighty Mouse) now officially discontinued?3) I was told here that the discontinued Apple Cinema Display HD 23" monitor had an update in fall 2006. The update was technical-internal (not external or cosmetic in any way, right?). I would really appreciate any information regarding that update.

Hardware :: Apple's 13-inch MacBook Air Comparable To MacBook Pro

Oct 26, 2010

Performance of Apple's new thin-and-light 13-inch MacBook Air is comparable to the notebook's 13-inch MacBook Pro counterpart, according to a new series of benchmark tests.

Macworld this week published the results of a thorough benchmark of Apple's new line of MacBook Air notebooks. Testing with Speedmark 6.5 found that the new models, despite having slower clock speeds than their predecessors, have significantly improved performance due to their reliance on flash storage.

Even when compared with the MacBook Pro, the flash storage helped the new 13-inch MacBook Air achieve a Speedmark 6.5 score higher than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with a 2.4GHz processor, released in mid-2010.

The new 1.86GHz 13-inch MacBook Air doubled its Speedmark score to 108, up from the score of 64 that the 2009 1.86GHz 13-inch MacBook Air achieved. Many of the gains came in drive tests, where it was found that the new lightweight notebook took 13 seconds to copy a 1GB file, compared with the 69 seconds that the 4200rpm hard drive of the previous model took.

Graphics performance was also improved, thanks to the nVidia GeForce 320M integrated chip. A test of Call of Duty 4 found that the new MacBook Air displayed more than three times as many frames per second as the nVidia GeForce 9400M found in the 2009 MacBook Air.

"Interestingly, the new 1.86GHz MacBook Air outperforms its predecessor in processor intensive tasks as well, even though they both use a Core 2 Duo processor with the same speed rating," author James Galbraith wrote. "iTunes encoding, Photoshop, HandBrake, MathematicaMark, and CineBench CPU tests were markedly faster on the new system. The new 1.86GHz MacBook Air was even faster than the previous 2.13GHz MacBook Air in all of those same tasks, despite the older system's supposedly faster Core 2 Duo processor."

The tests also found that the new 13-inch MacBook Air with a 1.86GHz processor is about 27 percent faster in the Speedmark 6.5 performance when compared to the smaller, 11.6-inch model with a 1.4GHz processor. The larger notebook was faster in all tests except for duplicating a 1GB file -- in both cases on that test, the integrated flash storage accomplished the task in just 13 seconds.

And the mid-2010 13-inch MacBook Pro, with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor from mid-2010, reached a score of 106, two points less than the 108 that the 13-inch MacBook Air with a 1.86GHz processor received.

The MacBook Air does not stand a chance, however, when compared with the 15-inch MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i5 processor. In tests that could take advantage of the faster processor's HyperThreading technology, the 15-inch MacBook Pro earned scores twice as fast as the 13-inch MacBook Air, and nearly three times as fast as the 11-inch MacBook Air.

The mid-2010 15-inch MacBook Pro with a Core i5 processor earned a Speedmark 6.5 score of 132, making it the best of the Apple notebooks tested.

Macworld also did a stress test on the batteries of the new MacBook Air notebooks. It found that the 11-inch model looped a movie at full-screen full brightness and volume set at 1 for 3 hours and 40 minutes. The larger 13-inch model ran for 4 hours and 25 minutes. Both of those totals bested the 3 hours and 5 minutes achieved by the 2009 MacBook Air.

The latest benchmarks paint a slightly different picture than a separate set of tests published Monday. In those benchmarks, the new 13-inch MacBook Air was found to be slightly slower than the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The new 11-inch MacBook Air was also portrayed as a "smaller but slower MacBook Pro, or a much faster but larger iPad."[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

MacBook :: Can't Make Monitor On Mini Display Port Primary Monitor?

Aug 18, 2010

I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.

I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.

Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?

MacBook Pro :: Detects An External Monitor But No Display On The Monitor?

Aug 5, 2009

As said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.

Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.

Hardware :: Apple 2001 Studio Monitor - Fomac Monitor?

Jul 12, 2009

I have a macbook pro from 2007, and I just popped into a tagsale and picked up one 2001 Mac Studio Monitor and a 2001 Fomac Gallery monitor.. So I was hoping to use the monitors with my laptop because the small screen on this laptop is KILLING me, and i'm not yet prepared (financially) to get a powermac.. Paid $10 for both of them..

my issue right now is, the monitor's cable doesnt match the input on my compuer. I need a ACD DVI clip cable.. Now, i looked them up and the price is $100! Call me naive, but i had no clue a connector cable would ever cost that much..

So basically, I am curious if there was a different option to get this to work with my computer OR if there is a place to get a used or "extra" cable

Hardware :: 30" Apple Cinema Display - Is That Resolution Available In A Larger Display?

Aug 14, 2009

I own 23 and 30" Cinema Displays. I like the 23 because everything is larger and easier to read than in the 30". I mostly work in Logic and love that I see lots of things on the 30" but the 23" is much easier on my eyes.Is there such a thing as a display with 2560x1600 (like the 30" Apple) but that is LARGER than a 30 inch so I can see everything bigger in Logic??? Maybe a 34 or 37"? Did a search but haven't come up with anything other than other 30" displays.

Applications :: Program (Comparable) Similar To IPhoto?

Apr 22, 2009

I am going to purchase a photo organizing/editing program soon (probably iPhoto), but I was wondering if there are any online, free or inexpensive programs that are comparable. The program that I buy must fit this criteria:

-Sufficient storage for many digital photos (This would eliminate Picasa's free service)
-Compatible with OS Tiger 10.4x
-Easy organization such as thumbnail viewing (or comparable to iPhoto's "Events")

Currently, I am trying to find a used copy of iLife '08, but many seem overpriced considering that iLife '09 is out. Ideally, I would like to spend no more than $35.

Mac Pro :: No Output To Display / LCD Monitor

Feb 28, 2008

MacPro 8 core Nvidia 8800, RAID card - arrived 2/25. Tried second monitor; monitor is blank (and turned on, and says "digital signal" when unplugging display connector from the machine, so it's recognizing the connection, monitor is fine on old G5). RMA'd for a new 8800, rec'd that on 2/28 - same result, so it's probably not the card. Tried 8800 card in different slots, so probably not a slot. Ram lights flash, HD spins, power light is on, so likely not power supply. Motherboard or RAM is only other thing I can think of, or maybe some kind of incompatibility with the 8800. Also, the fans on both 8800's run at what seems like full power when turning the machine on - is that typical for the 8800? Maybe that's a symptom of the problem; it's a lot louder than I would prefer.
