View 2 RepliesMy Sims 3 game keeps crashing and I read that overheating might be the cause and that getting a fan controller may solve the problem. I have a 2010 model 15" aluminum mbp, 2.66ghz, 4gb ram, running 10.6.5. For some reason, none of the fan controllers (smcFanControl, Fan Control, iCyclone) I've been able to find will work. smcFanControl at least installed and opened but changing the fans rpms didnt do anything (edit... reinstalled, it revs the fans for a second then goes right back down). Fan Control seemed promising but after it "successfully installed", it was nowhere to be found. After that, I reset my smc cause it said i may have to after installing these and tried iCyclone but upon opening stated wasn't supported by my computer so that was a bust.

Control click stopped working and does not give me a contextual menu in the finder or any other program (including Stickies or Word) anymore.
I tried resetting Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences to default. I looked for Finder preference, or Finder preference file (it used to be "com.apple.finder.plist" according to an old 2005 forums.Macrumors post) but i could not find one.
I just reinstalled Leopard a couple of weeks ago, and do not want to go thru that again if i can avoid it.
I just bought it for 2 days in uk! Suddenly the keyboard not working just like it be locked!but the function key like F1...F9, Control, Backspace, shift still can be used!Except Caps Lock, and number, and alphabet. Is that any keyboard locked function i touch? I am going to crazy now!!!

Then maybe a week ago, it just seemed to stop opening up and crashing immediately. I'm running OSX 10.4.8, everything is properly updated and I've reinstalled photoshop a few times to no avial. The problem didn't seem to occur after any change, I might have just not noticed it though.

I'm new here and was hoping for some feedback. I got a new 2.8 Imac and had it replaced after the Power Supply Position was idling at 82 degrees Celsius, and the top of the case felt very hot to the touch. The fans never "kicked in" even though it was that hot. Anyways, I got a replacement machine and the Power Supply Position now idles at about 68-70 degrees Celsius (much cooler), but the external portion of the machine still feels extremely hot. So my question is, how hot is too hot?? Is my machine normal and am I worried about nothing?? Should I be using SMC Fan Control?? Is the heat because of the 2.8 processor??
View 24 Replies View RelatedNow, obviously I can use VNC, and I do...but let me explain.
I'm back at university this year and I've brought my iMac with me as well as my MacBook Pro. I have my MBP on one side of my desk and the iMac next to it. What I'd like to be able to do is move my mouse (using my MBP) onto the iMac screen and control it and use my MBP keyboard to enter data into it. I've tried Screenrecycler which allows me to use the iMac as a secondary screen to my MBP but the lag just isn't good enough to work with on a daily basis. I want the iMac to be it's own machine doing it's own thing, just using the input of my MBP.
Just switched my new iMac and it has the dreaded dog whistle, not as pronounced as my previous 3 replacements which were last generation.
I was hoping the new rev would have ironed the atrocious quality control.
I still have yellow discoloration but I can't be bothered. My lady needs a computer and she doesn't want PC. I'll give it a few more days and if I can tolerate the whistle I'll hang on to this one.
At least there is no dead pixels.
Fan control software for iMac. The only one I can find is exclusively for notebooks.
View 13 Replies View RelatedIs smcFanControl still the best to use to increase rpm's on fans for macs? Or is there anything new out? This iMac get EXTREMELY HOT on the top left corner it can burn your hand how bad it is.The atual temps are within limits with istat but that excessive heat on the back left top corner is concerning me. If i keep my hand on it for more then 5 seconds it will actually burn my hand.

Today I was working with my iMac without any problem, suddenly the mouse pointer start behaving very odd, when I tried to click an icon, menu or whatever the mouse start moving not allowing me do the work, I changed the wireless mouse suspecting was a hardware problem but when I connected the USB mouse I got the same problem, then I shutdown the iMac but after starting I got the same problem. I suspect is a trojan virus but I heard that Leopard operating system is very robust and virus is not currently a problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been thinking of using an iMac as a video player in my workout room. I'd like it to be able to grab videos (tv shows) from my main iMac. I'd also use it to play dvd's.
I was thinking of buying a used G4 iMac to do this, but would like to be able to use a remote control to use Front Row.
First, can I use Front Row on iMac #2 to get videos from iMac #1?
Secondly, does the Apple Remote Controller work with a ppc G4 iMac?
Does anyone know if it's possible, and if so how, to stop my iMac from registering when I use my little white Apple remote (the one that comes with iMac, AppleTV etc)? Reason being when I go to run through my AppleTV menu my iMac registers each press as well.
I have the Remote app for my iPhone and iPad but I'd rather be able to use the Apple remote aswell for quick pauses etc., so as to not have to load the app just to pause, skip etc., if I'm using my iPhone/iPad for something else at the time.
What is wrong with this picture? The fans are running out of control constantly. This machine is sooo loud. The power supply was just replaced, which did little/nothing. Reset all ram/etc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy i7 iMac arrived today with no screen issues and no major problems at all (after scouring the forums the past few weeks, I was a nervous wreck waiting for it). I ordered on Black Friday and believe I have one of the most recent batches with, I cross-my-fingers hope, none of the screen problems that have been reported. However, I am about to gouge my eyes out because of a blasted erratic mouse issue in OSX. I am using a Razer Naga (though it is still a problem with every other mouse I hook up) and regardless of the settings, the cursor is jumpy and impossible to control at times.
I am Bootcamp running Win7 64 and have zero mouse issues on that side of the computer. Its only when I boot into OSX that I have the mouse problems. I have tried the Naga drivers and two USB/Mouse shareware apps, all to no avail. Otherwise, the iMac runs like a dream. In WoW with Ultimate Settings I get 50 fps in Dalaran and 120+ out flying in the world. LotRO runs great as well -- with the recommended settings I am at around 60 fps at all times, even standing at the Prancing Pony in Bree.
I let my iMac sleep when not in use. I have a logitech harmony 550 remote control for my TV. If I press a button on the logitech remote it wakes up the iMac. I went to the bluetooth devices connected and it only shows the mouse and keyboard. How can I correct this issue. The remote control is infrared not RF. My iMac is a 27" Quad Core i7, magic mouse & wireless keyboard.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac G4 and it keeps crashing. I've zapped PRAM, bought more RAM, re-formated HDD, installed Mac OS X over and over, I don't know what else to do. Even if I boot it up and let it run, it will eventually crash, but at random times. If I re-boot right after it crashes, it crashes again, but if I wait, it doesn't.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRandomly, when in stanby, when I click mouse to wake my iMac (2.66 Ghz 20" '09 model), the screen remains black and nothing happens.
I have to turn it off with the power button and then on again.
I've got a 2005 iMac G5 PowerPC 1.8GHz running Leopard. It's been running absolutely fine since I had it (upgraded to Leopard for at least 18 months) but randomly a week or two ago it's started crashing.
Sometimes two or three times in a row, then it's been 2-3 days without problem.
The display starts flickering, usually the mouse pointer can still be moved but after 10-20 seconds or so it will just crash and I have to restart by holding the power button down.
There's nothing in the crash log. I've run the hardware test and checked the memory and everything is looking fine. I've completely reinstalled Leopard and also cleaned out the fan in case it was overheating that was causing this.
For the last couple of weeks, while using various programs (Firefox, Word for Mac, etc) my computer (or the individual program) has crashed. Also, After sleep, the G5 would not awake even if I pressed the power button. I changed the Energy Saving schedule to 15 minutes for both settings. Before it was an hour. We had to actually shut of the power supply and turn it on again. Then it started up.
