I have 10.8.5 and use Quicken. I updated last week and lost 5 years of data. I have Time Machine but when I go to data from last month Quicken doesn't come up. How can I find it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just installed a new SSD. Time Machine is active. It says it is saving data. When you open TM, it opens the times that it saved data except there is noting in the boxes and the button to choose a backup to restore is greyed out, not allowing to choose anything as there isn't anything to choose. The TM says that it has backed upped 350 gb of data. There is nothing there however. I rebooted, disconnected external drive, even reformatted and started over. Nothing seems to work.

I am getting delivery of my new macbook pro today. I have already received advice on how to transfer all my software and data over (thanks). Once done I will be selling my Powerbook.
Is it ok just to remove my personal data? Or do i need to do a complete reinstall?
If i need to do a complete reinstall i have a question. I cant remember where ive put my original discs but ive bought some which are original panther install to a powerbook. My powerbook runs on Tiger (ibought the upgrade discs last year but have put them with the originals no idea where!!). So do i just put in the powerbook install discs that i have just bought which will be for panther or can i just remove my data?
I'm trying to reset iCal by removing all my existing data, but removing my old calendars etc. seems for some reason impossible. No matter what I remove they still reappear!
Having read other posts I've now tried trashing the following folders:
USERNAME/Library/Application Support/iCal/
and
USERNAME/Library/Caches/Metadata/iCal/
and
USERNAME/Library/Caches/Metadata/com.apple.iCal/
I'm using MacOS 10.4.11
After deleting the above folders and reopening iCal I'm presented with just two calendars ("Home" and "Work") but after around 10 seconds all my old calendars pop up again!
To make it short: On my iMac i have 2 partitions, 1 with Leopard installed, the other one with Snow Leopard on. Now, I'd want to use the Snow Leo partition as the system partition, and use the other as an archive... How can I remove all Mac OS X files from the partition without formating it? There is some app.. or something similar?

I am trying to delete all copies of a file in time machine but I do not have "Delete all copies" in the action menu. Why do I not have this option? Every answer to how to delete all copies says to do this but my action menu does not have this option.

as an extension to my question regarding RAM utilization, I've decided to upgrade my RAM. I went through the process of removing the underside of my MBP. After taking the screws out and mentally marking which slot they came out of (some are of different size), I pulled the lid up at the black trim area (the "neck" of the display mount) as this was the easiest way to get a non-damaging grip on the metal underside -- read: I avoided using a screw driver on the lid. As I started to lift, I was surprised at the amount of force I needed to use in order to remove the lid; something near the center of the cover was still holding the lid to the underside of the body. In fact, the amount of force I needed to use made me pause to question if I missed an important step other than simply removing the screws. I decided to "go for it" and applied more pressure while pulling the lid up and away from the body and heard a "pop" noise.

I've taken out the drives and logic board with down converter, but now I'm stuck behind the CRT. I know it's very dangerous, but I need to get around it to get to the board underneath it. Do I have to discharge the CRT or could I just snip the suction cable connected to it without any risk? I plan on recycling the thing, but right now I just need it out of my way.

Do I need any special tools? Can't find anything via google or other forums on exactly how to do this. It can't be too hard being that the Vesa mount is suppose to be easy to put on.

If I drag it into the finder it just makes an alias and goes right back to the desktop. It showed up when I turned on the HD along with the MY BOOK icon. Turned off the HD but when I turned it back on same problem. There is an uninstaller for the software but as I have not installed the software it does not work.

View 3 Replies View Related I have a VESA mount on my 27" iMac. When I installed it, I had to use the white plastic card to make the piece of metal with the screws pop out and lock in place. I have the VESA mount unscrewed and the original stand screwed back on, but the little bolt block thing is still locked in place sticking out of the computer. Anyone know how to unlock it so it will slide back into the machine?
We purchased a new imac from the Apple Store online which will arrive in a few days. Our G5 iMac has been sold and we would like to prepare it so that all personal information and files are removed before the new owner picks it up. Please assist us in removing anything of personal nature on it. We are leaving the application programs we installed in it.

I'm curious if anyone has a fairly surefire method to remove scuffs and scratches from an iMac G5. I picked one up from a friend for $50 that needed new caps in the power supply (check) and was pretty roughed up cosmetically. Now I've decided to keep it as a kitchen/guest computer but would like to get rid of the scratching as much as possible.

If I try to move it, it creates a copy, and if I try to trash it, it ejects the disk, and I play the game enough that I don't want to have to be getting it out and in and out and in all the time, especially where I currently have my computer set up.

My wife just called in a panic. She opened an e-mail from Verizon Wireless. The e-mail noted that we had a bill of over $1100 which was completely wrong. Unfortunately she clicked on a graphic within the email and then decided to forward it to me. At that point, her mail app stopped functioning. I've Googled the issue and found out that she most likely has infected her iMac with a trojan. She is currently running an anti-virus software that I don't have much faith in. How to remove this trojan?

I maybe buying a new iMac soon and I want to know will my leopard time machine back up data be transferrable over to snow leopard? I know you can't exactly do a restore because they are different versions but I want to make sure I can place back majority of the data I had on my leopard iMac.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe video card in my iMac died a while back, so now I'm only left with my Windows XP laptop. 95% of my data was in the iMac, but fortunately I had Time Machine (TM) backing up on an external HDD. I recently wanted to retrieve some of the MP3s stored in the TM backup, so after installing MacDrive 7 on my PC, I went into the drive to retrieve the music, but I couldn't find it! I see lots of folders with dates on them but no music anywhere.
I tried searching the entire backup volume for *.mp3 and nothing. I tried making hidden and protected operating system files visible and nothing. The TM backup seems fine. I'm sure if I connect it to a Mac I'll be able to access the data. But only having a PC at the moment, how can I retrieve my data backed up by Time Machine and copy it into my PC in a way that Windows can use it?
I currently have a 120GB hard drive in my macbook and want to put in a 500GB one. I have a ton of stuff already installed and don't really want to re-install everything from scratch on the new 500Gb one. Question is can I use Time Machine on an external drive that already has stuff on it? Or do I have to use a freshly formatted one for it to work?

I've just got a new MBP. I'm in the process of backing up my old laptop with time machine, so that I can transfer everything to the new computer with the migration assistant. I will have just enough space on my hard drive to do this. However the external HD is only 160 Gb and I would rather have a much bigger drive to use with time machine, and use this device to carry other files around. I don't want to lose the old backup data though. Is there any way to copy back up data onto a new time machine HD?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI only own one Mac computer - a MacBook Pro. I use Time Machine to back it up. If I had to send the laptop in for service I would be without my data for possibly quite some time. So I'm wondering - if I owned a second Mac (maybe an iMac), could I plug in my Time Machine drive and access the data? Could I selectively restore files and folders to the iMac?
