IMac PPC :: G5 Stuck On A Reboot Loop

Jun 4, 2012

I received an iMac G5 from this old couple, they were going to throw it out, but all it needed was a power supply which I bought and replaced. It's been about 9 months and everything worked great, no problems whatsoever.

Three days ago, I shutdown the computer and when I booted the next day, it would only reach the Apple logo and the spining wheel, the fans would blast loud and then it would shut down and restart again, repeating the same thing over and over.  I cannot start it under Safe Mode nor it recognizes the CD when booting.

Intel Mac :: Stuck In Reboot Loop (even After A Reinstall Of OS From DVD)

Jun 10, 2012

I have a 6 month old iMac (bought Dec 2011). It has 10.6.8 with all patches. It began to randomly shut down and got stuck in the reboot loop (sometimes, the problem was a reawakening after sleep, but even a simple shutdown/restart wouldnt guarantee correct behavior).

I did the Apple Hardware Test (it reported - no troubles found), reset the SMC, PRAM - all to no avail.

Finally, i reinstalled the OS from the DVD that came along with the iMac. Left it for a few hours to download the "jumbo" patch from apple site, and now it is back to behaving the same way - it is stuck in a reboot loop! I dont know if it installed the patch or not, as soon as i touched any key to wake up the iMac, it rebooted (like before). And now I gotta try the boot process like 15 times and it may boot correctly. Safe Mode boot is also not guaranteed to work. It shows the sliding bar and then back to reboot!

If it were a software issue, the reinstall of the OS should have fixed that? If it were a hardware issue, the AHT should have caught that? Am I stuck with a lemon? Just one of those bad pieces that are inevitable in any assembly line production?

OS X :: MacBook Stuck In Infinite Reboot Loop After 10.5.8 Update?

Aug 13, 2009

I got a 1 TB Western Digital external last night and had left it on all night so that Time Machine could back me up a few times. Then this morning, I had disconnected the drive and decided that I ought to update to 10.5.8 because Software update had told me to the day before. So I did, and I walked out of the room after it started installing the update. Then I walked back in when I first heard the startup chime and the fans were running at 6000 rpm and the screen showed the Apple and the daisy wheel. It proceeded to turn itself off, and repeat the process, always getting stuck at the Apple logo screen. So I tried booting it up in safe mode, but nothing changed; it never got past the apple screen. Then I booted from the install disc and used disk utility to verify the disk and repair the disk permissions. I tried starting it up a couple of times after that and nothing had changed. So I booted from the install disc again and was going to reinstall Leopard, but I decided to restore from one of the pre-10.5.8 Time Machine Backups.

OS X :: IMac Screen Black. It Got Stuck In A Loop And Froze.

Jul 30, 2010

I was playing Diablo II and my screen froze, and the same half second blip of sound kept playing over and over. I couldn't even force quit, so I held down the power button until it turned off.

Now, it won't turn on. When I press the power button, there is no chime. Oddly there are an inordinate number of fan wooshes. Like, I hear a woosh from the right, which is normal, but then I hear a woosh from the left, then another in the middle! I am being bombarded with wooshes!I've tried holding alt, or holding shift, or holding alt+s while starting up. No dice, although I do get fewer fan blasts, which is normal.

MacBook Pro :: Reboot Loop With Checkerboard

Jun 5, 2007

Has anyone else experienced anything like this with their MBP? I woke my MBP from sleep as I went to do something on it and I found a checkerboard-like (or interlacing) pattern displayed across the screen. That is, I could see bits and pieces of Firefox, the desktop, the dock, etc. in little rectangles across the screen with the bits and pieces scattered all over the place (like puzzle pieces strewn everywhere). I wasn't entirely surprised as I had seen a friend of mine have a similar problem when waking his MBP from sleep. I didn't have time to deal with a restart, so I went to my gf's Windoze machine (perhaps what follows is my MBP taking revenge for going off when times got tough and cheating on it with a *gasp* PC!!???). when I returned to my machine later on, it sounded like it was rebooting itself as I walked in the room. Then about 15-20 seconds later, it did the same thing. When I opened it up, the same checkerboard pattern appeared as it started to reboot, then it went to a completely blue screen, and finally went black (as in turned-off black). After that, it started this same process over again and stayed stuck in that loop until I held down the power button to turn it completely off. I called Apple (still under 90-day Apple Care since I got the machine in April) and did all of the troubleshooting tasks that they talked me through. It is apparently a hardware issue, as I feared, and I will have to send it off to have it repaired. (At least is sending the pre-paid box for me to ship it to them).

OS X :: Upgrading From 10.2.8 To 10.3 - Stuck In Loop

Apr 19, 2009

I was trying to upgrade my girlfriend imac g3 500mhz from os 10.2.8 to 10.3 . The installer soon told me that I needed a firmware upgrade and quit, and restarted the computer. I then got stuck in a bit of a loop and had to use a paperclip to get the disk out. Now when the imac is started, for a couple of seconds a small icon of the os face (?) appears and flashes to a small icon of a folder with a question mark on it (that scared me) but then is seems to start up and run as normal! I've turned the computer on a couple of times now and it does exactly the same thing every time. This flashing image is worrying me, I've given up on the idea of installing os10.3 but have I damaged this IMac?

PowerPC :: G3 Stuck In Rebooting Loop

Oct 22, 2009

My G3 keeps repeatedly rebooting. It goes through the loading process, but when it comes time to give you the desktop, it shuts down and restarts all over againl. As it boots up, a double image that you can't read comes up on the monitor, along with a solid color bar that separates the desktop image in two. I have two internal harddrives and changed it to reboot from the second harddrive, thinking that might be the problem. Immediately after doing this, it rebooted fine one time, but now is caught in the reboot loop again. When I startup from the install disk, the image is fine on the screen, as is the startup itself and when I run disk doctor, it says both drives are fine. I homeschool and would like to keep using all of the classic educational software on it for my 5 year old. It's running 9.2.2, 256mb memory 9gig drive is current booting drive, other one is 2gig.

OS X :: Macbook Pro Won't Boot - Stuck In Loop

May 19, 2010

This morning I went to use my laptop, Screensaver passsword box came up and it wouldn't recognise my password at all, So i rebooted. Now my macbook doesn't get any further then the apple logo with the progress wheel then after a while it reboots. So far i've tried the following:

1.)Reset PRAM
2.)Ran Disk Util from install disk and repaired disk permissions
3.) Booted into Safe mode

None of the above have made any difference at all? I thought about "repairing" the install of os x but the version on my disc is older than the version on the laptop so it won't let me?

OS X :: Time Machine Stuck In Loop Running SL?

Aug 29, 2009

I installed SL a few days ago and had to rebuild my Time Machine backup. It powered through all 700GB today and then it kept going. The progress bar got to the max: 700/700, then went to 700.02/700.02 ,, 700.03/700.03 ,, 700.04/ 700.04 ,, etc. Currently it's adding onto the "inprogress" file and filling up the drive with more data than I had to backup! It's done 844GB out of 700. Keep in mind, this is a totally-from scratch backup here! Do I stop it? Do I wait until it fills up the drive and "figures it out" ?

MacBook Pro :: Stuck In Loop At Login After 10.6.4 Update

Jun 17, 2010

This is my first mac, I installed the 10.6.4 update the other day and restarted, since then it has been on or sleeping. I just shut it down and turned it on again and it's asking for my password. Each time I enter it goes to load and then comes back to the log in screen. I know I have the write password because it's a simple 4 digit one that I use for my bank account and if I enter anything else the box shakes and asks me to re-enter it. How do I log in?

Software :: IBook G4 Os X 10.4 - Stuck In Reinstall Loop

Dec 12, 2009

My iBook G4, running Tiger, is stuck in a loop. While trying to reinstall os x 10.4 I was instrucked to insert disc 2. So I did. Resulting message: "There were errors installing the software. Please try installing again." with "close" the only option. So I close. It spits out disc 2 and message pops up: "please insert dics 2 to continue installation." The only way out is to crash but there's not really any way out because, when I re-boot I get the "there were errors installing" message and around and around we go. I tried to boot to my hard drive from the install disc but it won't go there. I did the hardware test and it says all is well.

MacBook :: Stuck In Restart Loop After Software Updates

Oct 5, 2009

So yesterday I updated a bunch of programs on my macbook via the auto update function. Some of the programs I updated required a restart, which I performed when it prompted me to. Now my macbook won't restart all the way. It turns on and gives the chime then goes to a gray screen with an apple on it. After about a minute a spiral loading image appears underneath the apple and about a minute after that the computer shuts off and immediately restarts again only to do the same thing (its stuck in some sort of cycle). I've tried resetting the PRAM and a few other things but nothing seems to work.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Address Book Stuck In ICloud Loop

Jun 20, 2012

My address book has suddenly gone haywire. It contains nothing 'on this mac' and seems to be stuck in a loop of downloading from iCloud - it gets a few contacts, then more, then yet more, then all, then back to just some and goes through the cycle all over again. Looking at the plist files in the library com.apple.addressbook.plist keeps vanishing and reappearing. I've tried quitting address Book, deleting the plist files (all of them) then reopening, but problem persists. I've tried turning off the iCloud sync for Address Book, whereupon it asks me if I want to keep a local copy: I say yes, but nothing is copied. Turn it on again, it syncs and starts looping all over again.

Windows On Mac :: Fusion 3.1.1 BSOD "Bad Image Checksum" Error And Reboot Loop?

Aug 16, 2010

My parents are having the exact problem described in this thread (and I've been tasked with remote tech support): [URL] Upon startup, WinXP gives them a BSOD reboot loop while indicating that a DLL file is possibly corrupt. Booting in Safe Mode won't work, and reverting to an earlier snapshot merely delays the problem by 24 hours or so.

The obvious and ideal solution would be to boot into Repair mode from the install disc and copy the clean DLL to replace the damaged copy. The problem is that, according to the thread, I'll need to first get Fusion to accept a floppy image of SCSI adapter drivers for me to even be able to enter Repair mode. The link for that image was broken in the thread, but a little Googling directed me here: [URL]

OS X V10.7 Lion :: MBP Stuck On Login Screen / Password Loop After Latest Update

Apr 3, 2012

I just literally updated my macbook pro to the latest version of Lion, today 4/3/12 and now it's just stuck on the main log in page for lion. As in, I type in my password, it thinks for two seconds, goes black, and has the log in page again. It just loops. No end in site. I've rebooted in safe mode, run disk utitily, and repaired the disk... but no dice, still. It repairs the disk, fine right? When I reboot in regular mode, it just goes back to the password/login screen loop.

OS X :: MacPro Stuck In Endless Reboot

Oct 21, 2009

I installed a second hard drive, installed iphotomanager, merged some iphoto libraries onto the new drive and all was working fine. I changed some permissions ("unlocked" all of the drives as the merge was having trouble writing to the new drive but then it worked fine after I unlocked). Then I started getting the message again that it could not write to the iphoto library plist and the merging stopped working. So I thought maybe if i restart the computer, it would sort itself out but noooo, now it won't start.

It just starts to power up then you hear the drive die down. Tries over and over. So I took out the new drive I'd merged all the iphoto libraries on (which had been working fine until it didn't). But i suspect it had to do maybe with me changing permissions in the middle of the process maybe?

I tried restarting in safe mode, by holding down the shift key when I heard the start up tone until the grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel appeared, and it takes longer now, but still ends up trying to restart and never gets to the login screen.

I have my Mac Pro installation disc 1 but can't find any others. I have Disk Warrior 4.0

But I can't get the disk drive to open since it won't start.

MacBook Pro :: Stuck On Blue Screen During Reboot

Apr 18, 2012

I emptied my cache on Safari and my computer stayed frozen for a few minutes. I decided to re-boot, but every time I do so, it goes from the gray Apple screen to a blue screen and stops right there. I don't get the spinning wheel, but rather the black arrow that I can move about the blue screen, but nothing else.

Here's what I've tried with no success.
1. Re-booting via Safe Mode (Command-Shift). Instead of freezing on the blue screen, it asks for my password and after a few seconds it stops on the Snow Leopard Pink/Black Stars background. Same result, only the background is different
2. Resetting PRAM - No luck
3. Re-booting with the Snow Leopard DVD and using Disk Utility. I follow the necessary steps online. No luck

MacBook Pro :: Wipe Hard Drive - Computer Freezes After Warning - Stuck On Blue Screen After Reboot

Dec 14, 2010

I was using my Mac (Macbook Pro 15" screen) and tried opening a file in GarageBand, at which point a warning message came up saying something about a midi file and something not being allowed, and then froze, resulting in me having to switch the computer off from the power button and restarting (Sadly I didnt realise that this would be the start of a whole host of problems and didnt make a note of the warning message). After rebooting I got the 'stuck on the blue screen with the Apple logo and infinitly spinning wheel' problem that i've seen in a few posts. having tried numerous suggestions posted with no change I ended up taking it to the genius section of an Apple store. When i got it back they said that it may have been a corrupted file, and that they re-installed and reset the starting programs (Something along those lines, I cant quite remember). I can now get onto the computer and use it, though some new problems have arisen.......

OS X V10.7 Lion :: IMac A1225 Crash Running AHT Then Goes Into A Boot Loop

May 1, 2012

I have an iMac A1225 EMC2211 that is exhibiting some weird behaviour. After about 5 minutes of using it (cold boot) it will either have a kernel panic, freeze and go into a blue (bondi blue I think) screen, or shut down. I ran an extended AHT on it and after 10 minutes it shuts down (black screen) then goes into a boot loop (screen stays black and system chimes once every 2 seconds). If the system is warm it will not boot (goes to blank grey screen). The consol reports something with the NVRAM (havent had the ability to post the log yet).

OS X :: IMac 10.6.3 Takes 15 Minutes To Reboot?

Apr 8, 2010

For about a week now, every time I boot my iMac mid-2007 20" running 10.6.3 I get the following problems

-Booting takes about 15 minutes of seeing the apple logo, and a bar that fills slowly under it...

-When it finally boots all the dock icons are reset to the ones you get with a brand new mac, spaces and expose is reset as well.

-Spotlight reindexes Macintosh HD.

-Adium loses all contact icons

-Mouse loses all it's custom settings.

-Login items are gone, I have tried not to re-enable those.

-Shut down takes about 10 minutes as well, while I see only the blue screen of shut down...

It seems that it is losing more and more settings every day. Today I had to turn on time machine again, although it was on before shut down...

Is this like losing an application support folder or something like that?

Applications do not seem intact as well.

Safari loses all web screenshots from cover flow iTunes reupdates the library etc....

What's up witn all these?
