IMac (Intel) :: Restarts Itself When Inactive Running OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)
Jun 6, 2014
Ever since I updated OS X to 10.9.3, every time I leave my computer for long enough for it tput the display to sleep, when I come back I find that it has shut down and restarted itself. The one time I caught it in the act, it went to a white screen with the message that the iMac was restarted "due to a problem."
My machine is a 27-inch iMac, Late 2009, running OS X 10.9.3

I just got a new Imac last week. When I try to go into Command + R the repair mode it looks like it changed to a reinstallation mode which is what I don't want. Is there another way to run disk permissions or disk repair in Mavericks?

Using OSX 10.9.3 on my iMac. Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Fairly new iMac, 21.5 inch, Late 2013. Just now, my right click function on my mouse does not work. I have checked my System Preferences and the right click is checked under secondary click. I did uncheck it, exit System Preferences, and then come in again and re-checked it, but that did no good.
I did restart my computer last night before I quit for the day because recently I uninstalled Sophos Anti-Virus because it seemed to be caught in a loop that was not finished "cleaning up" but that is only change I have made. Aside from the Sophos acting wonky there were no other issues with the machine last night.
The right click does not work in all programs, not just Finder. How can I get my right click function to work again?

My 2014 21" iMac powers itself down after about 10 seconds while trying to startup in safe boot mode. I'm not even sure why it is trying to start in safe boot mode. I shut it down after a power outage while plugged into an APS UPS. I'm guessing that since I interrupted the auto shutdown it is restarting in safe boot mode. Either way, I get a grey screen with a big apple and a progress bar. The progress bar gets to about a tenth full and the power just shuts off.
I've tried starting up while holding the alt key to select the Macintosh HD. The same thing happens.

my late 2006 macbook running 10.4.11 has been acting very strange since yesterday. first, it freezes while i'm recording something off of isight and i have to restart. works fine for 30 minutes until it randomly restarts (probably due to heat) and takes me two reboots and some time to fix it (i have to put an ice pack to keep it cool). then later in the night, it randomly restarts again and takes two reboots to get it back. then in the past hour, the screen has frozen, it went into a kernel panic and it randomly restarted again while i was trying to post this the first time. and also, it's been running very hot despite having no applications running.

After I print, there is a task hpdot4d in activity monitor that shows 398% CPU utilization (Quad i3 config), and the iMAC really heats up.
Sometimes, I my print job - though completed - hangs in the print window.
I need to either manually delete the print job or sometimes have to Force quit hpdot4d in activity monitor.
How can I fix this once and for all..... Is there an HP update I need to apply, or should I just buy a new printer?
My Config is

Since upgrading to Mavericks my Mac has been running pretty slow. I run Logic Pro 9 and Ableton 8 music programs on my computer quite often and that's where i notice significant lag. I understand those are heavy programs, but even when Safari is open and I try to open Finder there is lag time before the window actually opens. When I restart my computer, it runs a little better, but as soon as I begin to open other programs, the lag begins and will continue even after I close them.
I upgraded from Snow Leopard and never had any issues- it ran extremely smooth under the most stressful conditions with all the current memory and hard drive space, cpu, etc. I

Every since I upgraded my OS to 10.9, my performance has been going downhill. Now, even though I have reformatted my hard drive and have not even put any new data on it, it takes 45 minutes to restart and 25 minutes for me to open the window to write this message. Below is my system info. Why my system seems to have slowed down so much. You can see there is nothing on the hard drive to slow it down.

New owner of iMac 24" 2.8 since last March. Just recently I have noticed that when I take off for a few days, I shutdown the iMac and when I return home a few days later and hit the power button the iMac is already on in sleep mode. The only change I have made recently was to add Time Machine on a Guardian Maximus 1TB raid drive, but I usually power off that drive when I leave. I've checked and searched here and in the Apple discussions with no luck. Does anyone have any idea what might be happening?

Lately, as of two days ago. My iMac has been freezing and the screen just goes either black or another color that's on the screen. I was doing a conference call today, when my screen went black and I couldn't get the picture back. The audio ect worked fine, but the screen on my side went black. The computer has been freezing a lot since I upgraded the lion OS to the latest one. It runs faster, but freezes too much.

My iMac ( late 2012, 27", 3.4 GHz i7, 16 GB RAM, 3TB Fusion Drive, OS X 10.10.1 ) has taken to randomly restarting for no reason that I can find. It seems to be mostly when I am not actually doing anything, but, as I say, it's random. It did it five times in about half an hour the other day, then it didn't do it for a day or so, but it just did it again, which prompted me to ask. I have run Tech Tool Pro 7, and everything has passed. I have repaired permissions ( there were lots ). What next?

I have a mid-2011 IMac running Lion 10.7.3. From the time I got it, last Sept., it has said it has a problem and has to shut-down and restart. Then a long report appears with all the codes and apps. listed to be sent to Apple. This was first happening ever 3-4 wee, then every 2-3 weeks, and lately I had 2 in one day. I always add in the comments section that I would like to know what is going on, but never get any feedback, can't read the code well enough, but CPU 2 seems to show up. aI talked to Applecare last week and got a problem munber. The rep. says those reports are used by tech services to see what changes to make, and not tied to individual machines. I am concerned that I may have a lemon that will give out after my Applecare expires. I'm not anxious for a replacement or having the screen pulled to get inside to repair it. I've got it set up too well to risk it.

whenever I even go near the Downloads folder, Finder crashes. This happens whether I try to access it from Users -> (username) or if I am trying to attach something to an email, in list view. It is really irritating me, because I put most of my stuff into this folder, and cannot access it!
