I have the very first MacBook (1.83GHz, white). My brother tested it with his charger, which works fine for his MacBook, and he said it flashes a very dim green when plugged in, and the MacBook will not charge or turn on. Could it be a DC in-board issue? What could it be?

Been playing with it all day in OSX and initially installed Win7 but I the display driver keep crashing and I was getting artifacts on screen then the message saying that it had recovered successfully.
Having read that Win7 was not fully supported I assumed that this was the problem so installed Vista, but got the same problem.
Screen stalled, then goes blank for a second and then the error message in the task bar.
I have just ran all the MS updates and also installed the latest GFX driver from ATI to see if that makes a difference.
I have also just ran 3dmark06 and that ran OK but I was expecting the fans to kick in at some point
My early 2008 2.8GHz 8-core Mac Pro died last week. I tried all the usual stuff and ended up taking it to the local Apple store genius bar. They ran their diagnostics tool on it and did not find any problems so I had to leave it for a more thorough test. The Apple Store called a few days later and said it was either the main logic board and/or one or both CPU's. They -say- they replaced the main logic board and that did not fix it. They told me it would be ~$2800 USD plus labor to replace the the main logic board and both CPU's. So I took the machine over to another authorized Apple Service center for a second opinion. This other service center seemed confident they could determine which component(s) are defective. I am expecting a call from them on Tuesday of this week and hope to find out more then.
The symptoms are: When powering the machine I hear the startup sound and the display shows the apple logo. The machine boots for a little while (disk activity is heard) then the machine freezes for about 30 seconds then reboots or just freezes indefinitely. This happens with my 10.6.5 boot system, a second 10.6.x boot system on another internal drive as well as from the 10.6 SL DVD installer disc. Apple could not boot it off their network based systems either. Same symptoms on all startup disks tried so far...
So, I'd like to know where to go if I need to obtain parts and do the repair myself. I've built a number of PC's in the past and have no concerns about the undertaking. I just need to determine which parts I need. I'm not looking to "upgrade" the machine however if faster CPU's are available for a similar price I'd probably opt for the upgrade. At this point I'd be completely satisfied replacing the defective components with the same stuff that's in the machine now. Any pointers/links/tips/etc. would be most appreciated.
I bought a pre-owned iMac, late 2011 running Lion, took it to the Apple store to have the hard drive wiped and Lion re-installed. Then I brought it home and migrated files via Time Machine over from my Mac Book Pro , early 2009, running Mavericks. Now my log-on password no longer works. What happened?

i need to know whether its a hard drive issue for not. My mac started to switch itself off completely with no warning. Recently it will literally come on for a few minutes and go off again. I then have to wait some time (and i usually n plug it and re plug it in) before it works again. I wonder whether something has been dislodged perhaps. Im poised to go and buy a new hard drive but if you think its something more serious then i wont bother.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought an iMac G3 at an auction, it is the Indigo version with 400MHz G3 processor, 10GB HD, hope that's enough to work out which one. It will simply not boot up at all, when I first got it I switched it on and it done the Apple chime sound, then nothing, no power light at all. Now if I press the power button, no power light, no screen, nothing, although the screen sounds like it is coming on (the static sound and the degauss coil), no more chime or anything, as well as the CD drive sounds liek its searching for a disc, and the hard drive clicks a couple of times. I do not have an Apple keyboard or mouse, and am using a standard wireless USB keyboard and an optical wheel USB mouse. I don't know if it just needs OS9 on it (it says that on the sticker on the bottom) and if that is the only problem. I pressed the PMU reset button in the RAM flap while it was not connected to any power, and this hasn't done anything.

Until yesterday, my iMac G3 slot is working fine, but today, I can't power it up. When I press the power button, the light just flash and then went off. I've opened it up to check the PRAM batt and also checked if there are any shorts on the logic board. All looked ok to me. The HDD is working fine and I supposed the power supply unit is fine too.

Using OSX 10.9.3 on my iMac. Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Fairly new iMac, 21.5 inch, Late 2013. Just now, my right click function on my mouse does not work. I have checked my System Preferences and the right click is checked under secondary click. I did uncheck it, exit System Preferences, and then come in again and re-checked it, but that did no good.
I did restart my computer last night before I quit for the day because recently I uninstalled Sophos Anti-Virus because it seemed to be caught in a loop that was not finished "cleaning up" but that is only change I have made. Aside from the Sophos acting wonky there were no other issues with the machine last night.
The right click does not work in all programs, not just Finder. How can I get my right click function to work again?
A few weeks ago I had problems with my iMac freezing and also had a few Kernal panics. I ended up doing a disk utility with the actual startup disk and since then it worked for about 10 days but just recently froze again (while in Firefox) and started making a continuous loud beeping from the speakers and kind of a staticy sound...so I turned it off but now it won't stay started. I hear the "bong" noise and then see the apple logo and the bar under apple logo starts to come on but disappears And then it powers down to black screen and off. I have tried putting disk in but it spits it out at startup I have also tried Resetting pram and smc...I hope I did that correctly I believe I did? What other steps can I take?

I recently purchased a Mac mini As you all know, the Mac mini has its power on button in the rear of the computer. Due to a stroke I am in a wheelchair and my right side is paralyzed. This means that I have to have my mother or brother turn on the Mac mini for me. Does anyone know of a push button type of device that I can use to power on, and off, my Mac mini? While "push button" would be nice, the powering on device can be a switch. I fully realize that I can leave the Mac mini running 24/7 which I do very often. However, during thunder storms I like to shut the Mac mini off entirely. I do not want to take any chances. I know of a few people (including me with my old Power Mac) who left their computers on during a thunder storm and their computers got zapped.

It isn't working in my MacPro properly. It displays artifacts or reboots the system under BootCamp. After 15 minutes of idle warm up it works OK... I've send it to XFX for RMA and they've tested it and "NOFAULTFOUND".
Can anyone recommend a good equivalent to smcfanconrol that works well for the new mbp 2.4 under bootcamp? I've searched and tried things, but none work as well or easily as SMC.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac 24" 2.8ghz, 4gb ram, mid 2008. I have a couple of programs that only work under Windows, plus my wife doesn't want to learn Mac (sigh). I've been reading the threads (via mroogle) and looking at the documentation available from both Parallels and VM Ware and I'd like to know if I my understanding of how it works is correct. For Bootcamp, you partition your HD to create a bootcamp partition and OSx puts in drivers that allows you to install/boot windows in that partition and then you simply boot from that partition. This seems to be the closest to a genuine Windows environment. Right?
For Parallels/VM Ware, you install the application and then it runs in an OSx window and you create a virtual machine which installs windows and then it runs under OSx. Then you don't need windows drivers since Parallels/VM supplies the drivers as part of its own code. The virtual machine (64 gb or so) becomes your "hard disk" (I think) and OSx doesn't see the file system from other applications. Parallels/VM emulates the PC bios more or less? So I would need an OEM copy of Windows XP plus the service pack and also VM Ware or Parallels if I choose that route.
They are offering Windows 7 home premium for $29.99 to students, but I use Snow Leopard. I wanted to add the Windows 7 in my computer to use for bootcamp. So my question is.. is this an upgrade (do I need a pre-existing Windows XP or Vista software) or can I have nothing previously and it allows me to install from scratch?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have installed Windows 7 on a Bootcamp partition and use VM Fusion as well, I am trying to get my Windows 7 desktop onto my Plasma TV when I have only Windows 7 booted.
I have a mini displayport to DVI adapter (not worried about sound right now) but when boot into Windows I cannot find the TV as a output setting.
It used to be with my old PC I would see the TV as a possible output and I could chose either Dualscreens or simply set the Plasma as the main display.
Could someone please help me achieve this with my iMac? Am I missing a driver or just missing a setting?
Just tried Camp Tune - Paragon's software for on the fly resizing of bootcamp partition. I just did it and it worked like a charm.... no backup this and that and reinstall... nothing. Downloaded the file, burned the disk, boot with the disk and press resize (see instructions on the site).

I have attempted to reboot in safe mode, recovery mode and diagnostic mode, but I think the machine is not recognizing the keyboard.
