OS X :: Screensaver Not Working In Clam Shell Mode?
Jan 27, 2010
When I leave my clam shelled computer alone for a while, it doesn't start the screen saver after 5 minutes like I set it to. Is this intentional on Apple's part? If so, is there a program I could download to make it work?

When I have my macbook hooked up to external monitor it works great unitl I put it to sleep. Sometimes it kicks right up to the external monitor but the majority of the time it cant reconnect to the monitor. It just turns blue then off then blue likes its trying to figure out what to do eventually it says out of range. I then have to unplug the external monitor, wake up my mac with the screen open reconnect the monitor wait for it to pick up and then close it again and wah laaa it works.

Our display flickers on one side and has multicolored vertical bars running down the left side at best, or the whole screen greys out over the top of the graphical display, is physically no longer fully attached on that side near the hinge (you can press it down quite a bit after it has been closed), and the aluminum clamshell seems like it's warped. The bottom access panel has become no longer a smooth fit - it sticks up a few millimeters at the gap instead of being flat. We used to be able to hold the back left side and the screen would work, now we have been sitting it on a wooden structure with a back support and pushing it against that so we can see the screen for the past year or two. Now the flickering vertical bars are getting worse and the wooden support doesn't always work, and as an added bonus, the trackpad recently stopped working (it no longer 'clicks' and acts like it's constantly pressed down, so we have to use an external mouse with it). It's pretty frustrating because we've babied this thing (it's never been dropped or abused and has only left the house like twice, and one of those times was to take it in to see about this very problem!) and it seems like it's a manufacturing defect, but of course we never had AppleCare and this powerful expensive beast is now a desktop computer with a super hard to see screen. I've been told we need to pay $400 to get a whole new clamshell.

I have an 13" MBP that I ordered new in April, 2012. It is running Lion. I have an external monitor that is capable of 1440x900 resolution. I have an external keyboard and trackpad hooked up, and I like to close my MBP up and stick it in a BookArc. I want to be able to have the internal display disabled and to have the MBP only allow me to put windows on the external display, so long as the lid is closed. I also want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the resolutions available on my external monitor, which are higher than those supported by the internal display (specifically 1440x900).Â
This doesn't seem to work because I either have to allow the MBP to continue to draw my desktop across both screens (internal and external), OR use the "mirror displays" mode, which restricts my resolution of my external monitor. This means I either forgoe the additional resolution benefits of my external monitor, or I end up with windows that fall off-the-cliff, so to speak, because they are drawn in the portion of the desktop that would be shown on my internal display (which is closed).Â
I've read the community support pages on using the MBP with an external monitor, most relevantly, this page. It simply recommends using the "mirror displays" option. However, this option, as I mentioned above, doesn't allow me to make use of the additional resolution, and my external display looks bad. how to keep the 13" MBP in closed clamshell position, with the internal display disabled, and use my external monitor at resolutions higher than those allowed by the 13" MBP but which are available to my external monitor when not in "mirror displays" mode?

I've been having problems with my mid 2009 2.53GHz MacBook Pro 15" not waking up from sleep after I open the clamshell (screen) back up. When I open the screen after letting it sit for a while, I can hear the HDD spinning up and the status light on the bottom of the MacBook turns off (like it normally does when the clamshell is opened), but the screen is black and there is absolutely no response in any key combinations or trackpad taps. I've been having this problem for about a month now and its getting pretty annoying. I've tried a total wipe of the disk and a fresh Lion install with a full TimeMachine restore, but I'm having absolutely no luck. The only thing that can bring the MBP back to life is a hard restart. Sometimes when I hard restart it, it comes back to life right where I let off (basically like when the battery loses all its juice and restores everything thats open), but most of the time, it starts up like a normal boot with no restore.Â

I have a sizeable iTunes library and enjoy the iTunes screensaver. However, after a recent update (not sure which version of Lion), the screensaver stopped working. At first System Preferences would crash every time I changed to another option and then changed it back (did not get the error message, it was a few weeks ago), but now I just have a black screen that says "Your iTunes Library does not contain any songs with artwork." I have over 80GB and most albums have artwork. My library is not on an external hard-drive, just in the regular Music folder.
I looked at other suggestions online indicating I should delete my voice memos (or at least duplicate ones). I didn't realize I had one, but I deleted it both from iTunes and the folder. This had no effect.
I also used the "Get Album Artwork" function to see if this would work, and nothing changed.
I also deleted com.apple.iApps.plist as suggested by another thread. Â
Obviously it's not the end of the world not to have my preferred screensaver, but at this point I just want to solve the problem because I've tried so many options.Â

I just recently bought a NETGEAR WNR3500L 300Mbps + gigabit ethernet port. I keep hearing that my airport card should handle 300 Mbps just fine. But when I enable it on my netgear router settings my going to "Uo To 300Mbps" from default "Up to 150Mbps" I get horrible bandwidth...like 8Mbps. If i choose 150Mbps, everything opens up. I am going to figure out why 300Mbps mode isn't working.

i was instaling updates when the computer froze, and so I restarted it. A white screen with a bunch of jibberish appears every time I do. In the center it states " You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button."
I've tried doing both, as well as a number of key combos to restart the computer. No matter what I do, I end up with the same screen with the same message.
Now, in the background of that message.. with all of the 00x001Aie9 type of lettering is the word "panic", twice. Wondering if that may mean anything? If it's in some sort of panic mode?

I have an airport express that is configured properly but for some reason iTunes cannot find it after it wakes up in the morning. To fix it I have to restart the computer. My computer is connected to a time capsule via an ethernet cable and the airport express extends the same network wirelessly. My computer goes to sleep everynight at 1 am and wake up at 7am. I like my coffee and bbc every morning and am tired of having to go downstairs to the restart my computer to get the airplay working again. This started happening about four or five months ago.

I have a 21.5' iMac (Mid 2011) and a 27' iMac (late 2012) that I would love be able to use Target Display Mode. Unfortunately I have tried everything I could think of to get it to work. Here is a list of things that I have tried but have been unsuccessful at enable TDM:Â
1.) Completely restored Mac OS X 10.9.5 on the 21.5' iMac. Setting this machine up as new since it will be my external display.
2.) No firmware password enabled
3.) Reset PRAM on both machines
4.) Connected an Apple Keyboard w/ numeric keypad to the 21.5' iMac.
5.) Pressed CMD+F2 to enable TDM (no luck)
6.) Tried to enable 27' iMac as external display Â
Repeated same process with an 13in Macbook Air (Mid 2011) and got the same result. TDM will not work.Â
So I did some extra troubleshooting to try to target why TDM won't work.
I put my 21.5' iMac in target disk mode and connected it via thunderbolt with my 27' iMac but it doesn't see the 21.5' iMac while in target disk mode. I also tried the same process with my 13' MBA and I don't see the 21.5' iMac while in target disk mode.

I have a November 2009 27'' i5 iMac and a 2010 Macbook Pro 15'' i7. After installing the iMac's Target Display Update 1.0 and 10.6.4, I'm no longer able to connect the MBP to my iMac. When I plug in my mini displayport cable, the iMac's screen goes black for a few seconds, then the MBP's screen flashes blue for a second or two, and then back to normal, and finally, the iMac's screen goes blue for 5 seconds or so, and then back to the desktop.

Im very dissapointed apple imacs. Lcd of mid 2010 being changing for the second time. Last time it worked ok for 5 month. ***?! Is it ok for lcd screen? Or maybe I should turn into hackintosh to avoid poor-quality hardware? Rofl. **** I have only apple devices and starting nervous about it.

I have some MS word documents on my MacBook (intel) that I'd like to transfer to my white iBook. I tried plugging an enternal HD into the iBook (that HD contained the docs) but the iBook said that the HD wasn't compatible with it. So I went back on my MacBook and transfered the files from the HD to a memory stick.
However when I plugged that in and tried to open the files, MS word opened but the file did not. The word files are Word 2007 and on the iBook is an older OS9 version of Word. The iBook has Mac OSX panther on it, but the MS word opens in "classic mode". Any ideas on how I can get the docs to open on the iBook?

If I have Safari open as a window on my desktop, it will generally 'resume' (as in, most of time remember what I had open) after shutting down and booting up again. However, if I have Safari open in full-screen mode (as I prefer to), it never remembers resumes upon shutting down and booting up again; Safari is open (the little light in dock shows up) as if to say OS remembered I had Safari open, but there is no window and upon opening a new window, none of my tabs are restored.Â

After a few hours of uptime, certain keys on my keyboard stop working and I have to reboot: both command keys and the zero key. Sometimes, after the computer has been in sleep a long time, the keyboard and mouse don't respond at all. I can get the computer to wake up again by pressing the power key, but the mouse and keyboard don't respond, so I can't do anything except hard boot. This problem first appeared after the update to 10.10.1. (I'm dealing with it right now, so I'm getting the '0' through the keyboard viewer, but there's no way to access that from the password screen.)

I got a brand new Macbook Air the other week. I noticed that sometimes, after folding the computer (with the OS running), then unfolding it - the keyboard and trackpad are not responding at the login screen. Actually if I press the keyboard it lights up properly but there is no access to the system. The only thing that works is the power button, so every time I have to power down the computer, then back on again.
