OS X :: 10.6.1 WiFi Dropping Signals On Late 2007 IMac

Sep 15, 2009

Ever since I installed to 10.6.1, I have been having issues with WiFi.

I'm only getting 3 bars, and my iMac is sitting less then a foot away from my AEBS, on 10.6 I was getting 4, also I've been dropping my WiFi connection every hour or so, and I have to turn AirPort in on my iMac off and turn AirPort back on.

This is really annoying and I don't know what to do, anyone have any ideas?

I've already reset my AEBS twice and that hasn't worked.

IMac :: Finding 20in Aluminum (late 2007) LED Diagnostic?

Aug 19, 2010

I recently bought an used iMac (was purchased new in feburary 2009) in which I knew the screen was not showing any video when I bought it. ( I was okay with that I thought I'd give it a go at fixing) well the problem seems to be within the LCD itself. When I hit the power button I hear the chime, fan spins, and the hard drive does it's thing. I ended up taking the casing off the iMac to where it only shows the bottom half of the insides underneath the LCD. My question is now to diagnose what exactly is wrong with it by using the 4 led lights. I have searched the forums and the Internet up and down for which ones mean what but I have only found out information on older iMacs. When my iMac is off (still plugged in) LED 1 is on. When I turn the iMac on LED 1,2, and 3 are green. Which that leaves the 4th LED not being lit up at all. I suspect this has something to do with the iMac not showing any video but as I said I am not sure because I cannot find any information on it anywhere.

OS X :: Network Keeps Dropping Internet Signals / Happens Randomly In No Sequence

Apr 9, 2009

My problem is I keep loosing 'Internet' signal on my network, the network still runs fine and all computers (macbook, imac and macbook pro) are still connected to the network and can still transfer files but there is no internet connection. Im not 100% sure but this seems to happen once more than one computer is on the network at once. It happens randomly and their seems to be no real sequence or pattern as to when it happens.

I was adviced to change the ports on my router from 11 to say 6 or others, this didnt seem to help, and i have since thought as my imac is hard wired with an ethernet cable this wouldn't effect this computer as it is not connected over wireless but this computer IS still affected.

I have tried numerous hard resets and fimrware updates etc but no joy, the router i'm using is a Belkin URL

OS X :: Restore Late 2007 IMac With Unibody MacBook Installations Discs?

Jul 29, 2009

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I'm selling my iMac to buy a MacBook. The MacBook (2008 uMB) has arrived, with all the discs etc, which is brilliant.

My iMac however, came preloaded with Tiger, with a Leopard upgrade disc in the box. This Leopard disc has disappeared off the face of the planet, and so Apple are shipping one out to me, not sure when it will arrive. In the meantime, my auction ends tomorrow, so would it be possible to restore the iMac using the Leopard discs that have come with the MacBook, or is it safer to reinstall Tiger, and wait for the Leopard disc to arrive before shipping?

Hardware :: IMac Dropping WiFi Active Connection

Jul 31, 2010

My Linksys WRT610N with the latest firmware worked fantastically on multiple Windows 7-based ThinkPad. However, three (3) different iMac's have had the very same problem of dropping the connection and of my having to powercycle both my cable modem and the W610 router for it to work again at all! Once it drops the active connection, that's it. I have tried a few different settings and nothing has made a difference.

Can you maybe help point me in the right direction or should I just ditch it for an AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule? One additional point: It works worst in the 5GHz frequency band, even though there are none in my neighborhood, and if there are, they have their SSID's (network name) hidden. The 2.4GHz band is extremely crowded where I am which makes it difficult to enjoy my WiFi connection.

OS X :: WiFi Connection - Slow Browsing With Full Bars Signals

May 26, 2009

I'm back at my dad's place for the summer and I'm trying to connect to his house's wireless connection on my MacBook. It seems to connect okay when I type in our 10-digit password next to "WEP 40/128-bit hex" in the drop-down menu, but then even with full signal bars, it loads browser pages very slowly if ever, usually just giving me a timeout error and it's the same thing across all programs, my instant messenger takes forever to connect, WoW takes forever to connect, if ever, basically the internet I get from this connection is useless. It's odd because both my sisters have MacBooks and the internet works fine for them at my dad's house when they connect, and MY internet on my computer works perfectly when I'm using any WiFi but this one. By the way, the transmitter is a "D-Link 514 2.4GHz Wireless Router" and we're connected to cable internet.

Update:
* I have tried resetting the router and that didn't help.
* I have tried changing the channel, authentication method and password and that didn't help.
* I tried a DNS troubleshooting guide and it doesn't appear to be a problem with that.

MacBook Pro :: Have To Turn WiFi Off Then Back On To Get Strong Full Signals

Sep 12, 2014

I have a macbook pro 15" retina. I am a photographer and have to upload images at the end of every day. I noticed that the internet speed was flucuating a lot. From like 3 mbps to 30 mbps. I thought it was the internet service at first, but then noticed if I turned off the wifi on my macbook, then turned it back on, I would get a full strong signal. It would then start to slow down again to a crawl. Is it the macbook or maybe a Apple Express Airport update?

Mac Pro :: Late 2007 Automatically Rebooting?

Jun 10, 2008

I have a late 2007 Mac Pro 8 core 3.0ghx, system with 16 gigs of Ram. Two hd, one with OSX 10.5.2 and one with Vista Ultimate x64. I have a mac mouse and keyboard.

I have unpredictable, spontanious reboots. This happen on either OS's. I DO NOT have "reboot on power failure" check marked in the power savings menu. Once this cycle starts it gets worse, until the system just loops non stop at the beginning of the boot sequence, just a clicking can be heard. I have to power button off and unplug to stop it. Then when it reboots it sometimes happens again and other times not. Sometimes I may be moving the mouse or clicking then it just reboots. Or I might try to start a program, and it reboots.

I took it to the 'Genious Bar', this guy told me to make sure its grounded propery on the outlet, that it must be a three prong outlet with a properly connected ground. And to uncheck "reboot on power failure" Which i told him it was not checked. Of course it did not reboot or show any signs of a problem while I was there. I came home and moved the computer to a new outlet. It ran fine (as it did in the store) for about a week, then the problem came back. I had not changed anything.

I ran a harware test and everything came back fine, so no problem with bad RAM etc. Is it possible to have a bad power supply, would this be a symptom? Or possibly a bad power cord? And why would my computer reboot instead of power off, if I have unchecked "reboot on power failure" ?!?

Anyone experiencing anything like this? Any ideas, things to try? The computer is unusable at this point and has rebooted while using programs, that the programs will not longer start and have to be reinstalled.

Mac Pro :: Late 2007 - No Audio Under Windows 7?

Apr 25, 2009

I've tried installing Boot Camp from my Leopard DVD (Win 7 didn't like either of my Mac Pro's discs), installing the Boot Camp 2.1 update, and removing all audio devices and forcing Windows to search for new drivers.

Anyone know what's going on? I was previously running Vista, but I heard games run better under Windows 7, and it was time to wipe the drive fresh anyway, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Any help so I don't have to roll back to Vista would be much appreciated.

Update: This is even stranger. Turns out audio *is* working, but it is incredibly faint. I'm cranking volume up on my external speakers far beyond anything I would regularly listen to, and I can barely hear streaming music from sites like Lala or Last.fm. I checked the volume mixer and all my levels are up at 100, it's like there is some kind of extremely low audio level limit being enforced before it gets out to the hardware.

OS X :: SL Clean Install On A Late 2007 MB?

Jan 22, 2010

I'm planning on doing a clean install on my late 2007 MacBook. I used this MB until I got my new MBP, so it already has SL on it (from when I upgraded to SL). I am giving the MB to my mother, so I want to set it up as a new computer for her. I want the OS to be completely fresh, as if the MB has never been used before.

Obviously, I will not need to transfer over any files/docs/music/etc. I just want the MB to be loaded with what a MB typically has on it out-of-the-box.

The MB came with Leopard (10.5) System Install Discs (obviously), which I still have.

I will be doing the clean install from the $29 Snow Leopard Upgrade disc that I bought.

From what I understand, the SL clean install should go like this:Insert SL disc and reboot MB

Select language and continue

Select Disk Utility, select disk, and select Erase Disk

Close Disk Utility

Back in the SL Install window, select 'Install'

Wait for SL to be installed (approx. 45 minutes)

Are those the correct steps?

My main question is this: Once I finish the clean install of Snow Leopard, will all of the standard Apple applications be there? I'm talking about iLife and anything else that typically comes with a Mac. Or, will I have to insert the System Install Discs that came with the MB and install iLife from there?

Alternatively, should I do the fresh install using the Install Discs that the MB came with, and then upgrade to SL?

MacBook Pro :: Late 2007 Battery Shuts Off?

OS X :: Late 2007 Macbook To Snow Leopard

Aug 29, 2009

I thought I'd post my early findings. I have a late 2007 Santa Rosa MB in white, 4GB and 2.2 Core 2. Mine came with Leopard and still included the remote.

Anyway, I was a bit leery about SL, because this is a little older, but I did a in place upgrade, it took about 45 minutes.

I must say, things feel quite a bit snappier, even the graphics around the dock and windows. It boots up a little faster and seems to shut down pretty fast.

I've heard mixed things about things being slower for some people, but I can say this feels nicer. I'm still poking around to see what else has changed.

One thing of note, my Brother MFP's little control center app was removed in the process but the driver is still there. So I need to find how out how I am going to scan and stuff over the network.

Overall I am very happy with the upgrade, I'm just glad it's not slower.....

MacBook Pro :: ExpressCard SSD Or 6GB RAM Upgrade For Late 2007?

Aug 5, 2010

I've been following many threads on Mac Rumors for a while and thought I finally post something (hopefully) useful for others and in hopes that I can get a meaningful answer. So please don't flame me if this may be a newbie question... here I go:

So I have a MacBook Pro 2.2 Ghz Late 2007 computer, equipped with a 500GB WD Scorpio Blue HD and 4Gb of RAM. What I do with this computer primarily is graphic design and editing (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Final Cut Pro, etc...) and some amature music production (Reason, Garageband, Djay...)

I've followed the 6gb/8gb RAM upgrade forum for a long while for Mac products and finally bought myself a 6GB upgrade kit from Other World Computing. My package arrived today, and I hate to admit but I'm afraid to upgrade the RAM because of the slight hit/miss ratio I heard about using it. It's usually a good thing to upgrade to something higher I know, but I read that even if I did upgrade, I would only be using about 3GB worth of memory on it and not the full 6GB. Plus, I would lose the dual channel architecture doing this... if that did make a big difference to my heavy use of RAM.

Just today I learned about ExpressCard SSD's and how they can act like a separate HD in themselves. I'm highly interested in a very economical 64GB ExpressCard I researched. They're super fast and sound like a better alternative to RAM upgrading, especially if I can only use a max of approx. 3GB of RAM on my model computer.

So after all of my gibbering and jabber, here's the question:

From your experienced perspective, what's a better option for me to take...

1) Use the 6GB RAM upgrade?

2) Buy an ExpressCard SSD and use memory intensive programs on that?

3) Use the 6GB RAM and buy the ExpressCard SSD together?
