Folders I created in mail just went south on me. That is I finally got the ability to get all mail again but seem to have lost the folders I created. I had stored some messages in them too. It just makes one curious as to where they went, Anyone know anything about this?
View 3 RepliesI have searched these forums and Google to no avail; perhaps I am asking the wrong I had, and still have, the default Admin User account. I installed my MAC Office and Fusion among other things in this account. I then joined the MAC to my office Windows domain which created a new user. When I log in as the new user all I see is the default dock; no applications. And all setting were lost; I think I can understand that one. So the question is, how do I get the new user access to the applications installed under the Admin user?

All of my original files were GONE and only alias's were left. I search and the originals aren't found, I open the alias's and they want me to find the originals. The originals are just GONE. And I still don't know what I did!!
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, my current Apple ID is under an email that I deactivated (it was hacked into). I wanted to create a new ID using my current email. But will I lose everything on my iTunes library if I get a new one? Meaning is my music and apps and whatnot saved to my computer or the application itself versus my Apple ID? I know that if I create a new ID that I can just transfer everything from my iPod to iTunes, but I have a 2G iPod Touch and it's a real pain in the neck when I sync it to iTunes (freezes/gets stuck/really slow). I use the newest version (10.6 I believe? Just downloaded it a couple of days ago) for Mac.

I have a file I alter once about a week, each time I alter it I save it as a new one, with a date included in the name.So I have a series of files something like
xxxxx march 13.numbers
xxxxx march 07.numbers
xxxxx march 01.numbers
etc.
This morning when I updated and saved the march13 file I accidentally saved it as xxxxxx march 13, not xxxxxx march 20 which it should have been. No problem, go into time machine and retrieve the march 13 file I thought.Its not there. Its not there from just before the save to any time it should be there !
Luckily I was able to retrieve it as I also have a once a week online backup so I went into the last one of those and retrieved "xxxxxx march13" which proves it did exist, it has a creation date of march 17 but if I look at TM for march 18 its not there - why isn't it in my time machine backup?
All the other files in that folder are as expected so the only thing that makes any sense to me is that TM hasn't been backing up over the past week or so but TM error logger shows no errors.
Upon adding new songs to my library, iTunes creates a new folder, gives it the same name as the folder "above" and adds the songs I want to add in this new folder. I deleted the whole library. I have a folder "Greatest hits" with about 20 subfolders for each artist. I added the folder "Greatest hits" to the iTunes library, Itunes creates a new folder for every individual artists in the root directory, copies the songs as well but the cover jpg remains in the "old" folder...
What to do?
So I accidentally removed the downloads folder from the dock and now I can't put it back in stacks without it appearing in order by name. I've tried organizing the folder by date created and then adding it but as soon as I exit the folder it goes back to organizing by name.

I have a basic question on how to select a few files, drag and drop it into a new folder in the same folder level
For example, In windows I do this
1. Select few files in C:Temp
2. Cut those
3. Create a new folder and rename it C:TempNewTemp
4. Right click the folder and Paste it.
This is what I do in Mac now
1. Choose the files to be moved into a new folder (When I'm about to drag it, I remember that I've not created the new folder! Grr..)
2. Create a new folder and all my selection is gone
3. Now reselect all the files again and drop it to the new folder (Phew!)
Am I missing the cut feature in finder??? I know that 'Cut' is not much required in mac since everything works on DragNDrop.
I'm not sure whether there is any workaround for people like me who are used to selecting the files before creating a target folder. I'm sure that there should be something which can help me create a folder onthefly while dragging the files and keeping the selection intact.
I am transitioning from Windows Vista to a desktop Mac with OS X Snow Leopard my husband bought. I can't find any information as to how he got folders created and named to hold various related files. I have a new 21.5" iMac and have been playing around with everything. When I started two weeks ago I had an Apps folder with the Apps logo on the dock to the right of the dotted separation. All the applications are there lined up with the first application showing but for my consternation I cannot put the Applications in there folder like it was when I started out two weeks ago. This is the Snow Leopard OS.

Here's what I have so far (which I'm sure is way off base)
1) Folder action receives files and folders added to "Images"
2) Filter finder items - Find files where ALL of the following is true: Kind is ANY
3) New Folder - Name is "_" Where: "Images"
4) Add Date or Time to Finder Item Names: Add Date to folder name
5) Move Finder Items: This is the step that I'm stuck on. I don't know how indicate the newly created folder in step 3
Another question I have is how to make automator check to see if there's already a subfolder with the current date and put the file in that subfolder instead of creating a new subfolder with a duplicate name.

I downloaded a bunch of pictures from my wedding which were saved into a .zip folder. Every time I click on the folder to "unzip" it a duplicate folder is created. I've tried searching for the unzipped folder that people have said would be created after double clicking/unzipping the folder, but it's nowhere to be found.

I have a folder where I place an ever growing collection of my favorite songs. Before I switched to Mac, on Windows, when I wanted to revisit songs I most recently added to the folder, I would sort the songs by the Date Modified and it would order the files I placed in the folder by date.
In OSX, however, there must be a slightly different meaning to "Date Modified," as it does not quite sort my songs by the order they were added. It gets some of it right, but there's plenty of files that are out of order--tune "x", which I know was placed in the folder a week ago is actually listed further down the list with songs placed in the folder months ago.
Is there a way to have OSX sort files in order of the date it was placed in a folder? Neither "Date Modified" nor "Date Created" works 100% as I thought it would. Or is the OSX definition of Date Modified/Created slightly different than Windows?
I was copying some files onto my external WD drive and was surfing while the files were copying. When the copy process ended, I went back to the destination window/folder and clicked the "prev" arrow to jump up a level. Upon doing that, I "lost" the folder I was in - it seems to have dissappeared from Finder? I checked and the storage space seems to still be used on the external drive, but I can't seem to "see" the folder (and all the subfolders/files) in question. I tried ejecting the USB drive and re-mounting it using Disk Utility, and also restarted my MBP - both to no avail .

On my iMac I created a PDF of a PowerPoint deck (File>Print>PDF) and Saved it to Documents on my iMac. I found that the PDF was saved to iCloud.
But I could not find iCloud using Finder on my iMac. I had to go to TextEdit where I have a choice of iCloud or On My Mac in the file listing. Nothing like this on Finder on my iMac. I had to go to TextEdit to delete this pdf in iCloud.
This happened 2x to the same PowerPoint file - saving to iCloud. How do I use Finder to go to files in iCloud?I created a test Excel file in the same fashion and it saved to my Documents folder on my Mac.
Why is the PointPoint deck PDF being saved to iCloud and not to my iMac?

Today, Safari has lost it's icon in the App folder, with just a icon of a white page in it's place, correctly labeled. Clicking on it launches Safari OK, and strangely the usual Safari icon appears in the dock while the App is open.
