I'm looking for a program/app that will allow me to primarily send SMS from my Mac using my current phone number. Does anyone know if anything like this exists? I can only think of something like this working in one of two ways: Sending an SMS composed on my Mac through my mobile/cell, via Bluetooth or some other method? OR Using software that emulates my mobile number to compose and send SMS?
I remember back in the day you could actually email an SMS to a phone by using their mobile number as a username and their network as the domain - e.g. 07123456789@orange.net. Unfortunately, because pretty much all the networks now provide email services too, doing that nowadays means they will actually receive an email at their online account instead of their SMS inbox.......................

I've done this many times in the past.
The phone and the mac connected ok via bluetooth, and I inputted the code that comes up on the screen. After which the the connection 'failed'.
I then tried another mobile phone, and the connection failed on that too. The thing is I've used both phones before to transfer files to the Mac Pro.

get video recorded from my cell phone (motoroala Hint) imported into imovie so I can edit the video and merge clips. The file extension of the video file is .3g2 . Quicktime will play this video, but imovie apparently does not support it. I have found a number of different video apps by searching forums (iskysoft imedia converter, handbreak, mpeg streamclip, applemacsoft video converter) of which only iskysoft imedia converter does what I want to do. The only problem is the trial version does not convert audio and has "evaluation copy" imprinted into the video. The full version costs $50

I have a Samsung Evergreen cell phone and I accidentally erased a picture I need for work. The picture was on the phone's memory, not an SD card. I am trying to connect the phone to my iMac via a usb by mini usb connection........it does not appear anywhere in Finder. I am trying to connect it so that I can search for software that will scan deleted files on the phone.

I am in India with a cell phone that has an unlimited data plan and legally allows tethering and has blue tooth. I am trying to connect to the Internet through the cell phone using blue tooth to my Macbook. I can "pair" with the cell phone but cannot connect. My new Macbook is running Snow Leopard
I can see the Nokia 7210 by clicking on the bluetooth icon upper right on the Mac. I can see the Macbook in the cellphone and click on connect in the cell phone.
Then the cell phone says "connecting to Macbook" followed by "service not supported by other device".
I have clicked on every combination I can find in blue tooth preferences on the Mac but can't get it to connect. Under blue tooth in the Mac it says paired but not connected.
Sometimes the Mac asks for a user name and pass code for the cell phone and it also asks for APN whatever that is. The owner of this cell phone tells me there isn't any username or passcode necessary and he has successfully connected through Windows notebooks without so using.

I'm looking at getting my wife an LG enV Touch cell phone and wanted to know if her contacts and calendar info on our Mac could be synced to the phone.
Can anyone let me know if this is possible? I can't find anything online saying it is or it isn't possible, so I just don't know. The person at the store is not very helpful here either.

I have a mytouch 4g cell phone with adapter cable, that use to be working just fine with my macbook pro. The cell phone icon would show up on my screen, and I could transfer pictures from there. Out of the blue, the icon for my phone is no longer showing up on the screen , therefore, I can no longer access pictures and tranfer them to my computer anymore.

I'm using a Macbook pro OSX 10.4 Tiger, and have been experiencing a very bizarre, spooky, specter-like occurrence happening as of late when I watch streaming videos off common site such as Hulu. I'm using the newest version of Firefox and my roommates and I have wireless internet with various routers rigged sort of haphazardly throughout the apartment. Sometimes whenever my cellphone alarm goes off, or an incoming call comes in, the ringtone will come through the speakers of my computer! This takes place even if I'm on a different floor or in another room. It has even happened when my cellphone is put to silent! Can anyone explain or speculate why this is happening? It always freaks me out, and won't go away unless I close the video or browser.

My previous phone literally broke and I didn't back up my contacts. So I'm retyping them. I don't want to make that mistake twice.
I plugged in the phone to my MBP but I have no idea what to do.
My phone prompts me to choose Media Player, PC Studio, or Mass Storage. I don't have Media Player. So which do I pick and then what to do on the MBP?

I'm having a problem sending pictures from my Samsung U800 to my iMac using the bluetooth connection.
I've gone through all the set up adding my phone and it has said that it is connected successfully and has a list of the folders on my phone but when I open the folders there is nothing in them.
Alternatively when I try to send the pictures from my phone to the iMac it instantly says 'Sending Failed'.

A couple of years ago when I got a tv for my room, my dad built a rack of shelves into the wall, one for my tv, one for my stereo and one for random stuff. It's always been nice, but restricting. I like to move my room around, and My desk is forced to stay right next to that rack to transmit audio to my receiver via a hard wire. Seeing as my iMac has bluetooth built in, I was wondering if it is at all possible to send stereo high quality audio over bluetooth to some sort of receiver that would feed into two RCA plugs... Now, I'm not talking audiophile quality, this is just a $400 sony rig, no crown audio here, but I dont want it to sound like those old 900mhz wireless headphones with all the interference. Is this at all possible? Or am I doomed to either staying put, or running 5' of cable under my carpet?

Until the recent large update (149 mgb) to iTunes I was able to pair my LG phone to my wife's iMac and transfer mp3 files either way using Bluetooth. Now when I pair the phone and go to Browse Device on the iMac it lists all of my phone memory files but will only open the the SDPicture file. When I click on the SDMusic file it says operation failed. Is this just Apple protecting their rice bowl with regard to music sales or is it a glitch in the software?

I have an AT&T phone, not an iPhone, but I want to make a ringtone for it using a song in my iTunes library. I want only like a 30 second part of the song, and I was wondering if anyone knew any good software to make and send it to the phone? I have an MP3 compatible ringtone phone, however it's a Pay As You Go so I'm not sure as far as capabilities go...I think I know how to SMS it to my phone but I need to find a good software to cut, clip, and maybe change format if needed.

I'm going to be getting a new phone very soon. I'm looking at the LG UX380 because it supports a 4GB memory card.
I don't really care about the music because I have many iPods to use.
That got me to thinking though - can I simply drag files to my phone from my iMac?
If that works, then maybe I could use Automator to set up a schedule to backup some of my more important stuff, then I can take it with me.

I dunno if i'm posting this is the right thread, so mods, please move it if it isn't (i'm rather new to this forum)but anyhowI'm having problems connecting my Samsung ALIAS SCH-U740 to my macbook pro via bluetooth. I have a card reader, but i left it at school for the break and i was trying to get file transfers to work over bluetooth.after poking around in the phone settings and getting the phone to be recognized by the computer, i got it connected fairly easily, but my problem is this: firstly, in the bluetooth menu, it says the phone is "not connected" and i can't find a way to make it stay connected. Second, when i try to browse my phone via bluetooth, i get an error that says that my phone doesn't have the necessary services.

I downloaded skype the other day. Awesome service. The calls are very clear. What I would like to do is call my friends from a bluetooth headset when I'm at home. I've seen some very large USB type phones (eww) but I was after a bluetooth headset. Could I say use a bog standard mobile phone bluetooth headset? I rather like the Nokia ones.

I own a brand new Macbook Pro (Retina, 13", mid 2014, 256 GB SSD) with OS X Yosemite. When at home, I have noticed that an unknown smartphone (seemingly a Nexus 4) sometimes connects to my Bluetooth - without me ever having given it permission to do so! (The Bluetooth icon on my menu bar tells me that the phone is connected.)
As you can imagine, the thought of other people getting access to my computer, with my computer itself carelessly accepting, worries me quite a bit. Of course I can temporarily eliminate the problem by turning off Bluetooth, but how do I prevent this phone - or any unknown bluetooth device - from connecting to Bluetooth without permission?
