MacBook Pro :: Bluetooth - Unknown Phone Connecting Without Permission?
Dec 5, 2014
I own a brand new Macbook Pro (Retina, 13", mid 2014, 256 GB SSD) with OS X Yosemite. When at home, I have noticed that an unknown smartphone (seemingly a Nexus 4) sometimes connects to my Bluetooth - without me ever having given it permission to do so! (The Bluetooth icon on my menu bar tells me that the phone is connected.)Â Â
As you can imagine, the thought of other people getting access to my computer, with my computer itself carelessly accepting, worries me quite a bit. Of course I can temporarily eliminate the problem by turning off Bluetooth, but how do I prevent this phone - or any unknown bluetooth device - from connecting to Bluetooth without permission?Â
Info:
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
I just noticed on my main boot drive, in the sharing and permissions section. Their is a user named ''unknown'' This unkown user has read only permissions, and is grayed out. I have tried removing this user by clicking the minus sign. It has no effect. I cant change their privilege level either. I can do this with the other users listed. The ones that aren't grayed out. This (unknown) user is not listed with the rest of the users. Found in the sharing options, under system preferences. In fact all sharing options are turned off. I don't have a wireless network, nor do I run time machine.
This pc keeps showing up in the finder under "shared" and I cannot delete it. I have everything in the sharing menu in system prefrences unchecked, but it is still there.
How come when I use USB to connect my Android phone (Samsung gs2), two (2) "No Name" folders open up on the desktop?I only want one, but it seems to be splitting my phone into two folders?
I'm going to be spending a few days in the the middle of nowhere where my only option for the internet is using a landline telephone. I have no idea how this works...would this be the only thing I need?
I'd like to use my mac (Imac and Macmini) for sending/receiving faxes and perhaps for CPI (computer phone integration).I have obtained a USRobotics usb modem. The question I have is do I need to connect that modem to the same connection (using a splitter) to where my telephone handset is ?If I connect this usb modem from the macmini to the phone line (not where the handset is), can I then use the Imac to connect to the phone for fax/cpi|? It is all the same phone line and on the same wifi.
Just booted up a new 27" iMac and only have my Magic Mouse and wired keyboard connected. Went to the Bluetooth preferences and it shows "Apple Mouse" as connected. And then it shows another item 90-84-9j- etc. listed as not connected. The info about it reads as follows.
Type - Unknown Services - None Paired - Yes Configured - Yes Favorite - No Connected - No
I have made myself a ringtone (not illegally downloaded) and I have it on my computer but thats the dilemma... I don't have a usb (aka lost it) so I was wondering if there was a way i could text it or send it to me through blue tooth or what not? My phone is the Verizon voyager (the old silver one, not the new one).
Until the recent large update (149 mgb) to iTunes I was able to pair my LG phone to my wife's iMac and transfer mp3 files either way using Bluetooth. Now when I pair the phone and go to Browse Device on the iMac it lists all of my phone memory files but will only open the the SDPicture file. When I click on the SDMusic file it says operation failed. Is this just Apple protecting their rice bowl with regard to music sales or is it a glitch in the software?
I am trying to import music from my brother's mobile phone to my macbook (itunes) via bluetooth connectivity.I can send one file at a time from his phone but obviously this is very time consuming so am trying to find a shorter method. When i go to import playlist in itunes, the phone is not recognised in 'my devices'.
I'm looking for software that lets you control your mac through a java enabled mobile phone, like salling clicker, preferably free. but any suggestion, paid or freeware will do
I dunno if i'm posting this is the right thread, so mods, please move it if it isn't (i'm rather new to this forum)but anyhowI'm having problems connecting my Samsung ALIAS SCH-U740 to my macbook pro via bluetooth. I have a card reader, but i left it at school for the break and i was trying to get file transfers to work over bluetooth.after poking around in the phone settings and getting the phone to be recognized by the computer, i got it connected fairly easily, but my problem is this: firstly, in the bluetooth menu, it says the phone is "not connected" and i can't find a way to make it stay connected. Second, when i try to browse my phone via bluetooth, i get an error that says that my phone doesn't have the necessary services.
I am trying to connect my macbook pro to my mac pro and transfer files such as updates on my iCal and other applications. I am trying to figure out how to do this. I can connect but i am unsure how to transfer the info over.
I downloaded skype the other day. Awesome service. The calls are very clear. What I would like to do is call my friends from a bluetooth headset when I'm at home. I've seen some very large USB type phones (eww) but I was after a bluetooth headset. Could I say use a bog standard mobile phone bluetooth headset? I rather like the Nokia ones.
I can't send a file to my cell phone. It has always worked, but now it doesnt anymore. I can send from my phone to computer, but when i click send file or browse device, nothing happens. I have bluetooth turned on on both devices.
My Apple keyboard has worked fine. Last night I lost my connection for the mouse and the keyboard(not unusual for the mouse). Had to set up both again. Mouse connected easily, keyboard took forever. Bluetooth would recognize it, it was discoverable(blinking green light), batteries strong, but could not make the connection. I did this over and over, finally got it. Tonight, same thing. Lost the mouse and the keyboard. Set them up again and same thing, mouse easy and keyboard still isn';t connected.
I'm trying to connect my iPhone to my new mbp via bluetooth. The ultimate goal is being able to tether, using my different carrier profile that I have (4.0 maybe?). The thing I don't understand is that this worked legitimately like last week and then I got a new hdd and it now doesn't connect via bluetooth. If I go through the set up assistant, I can get the devices paired, but on both my computer and my iphone it says the devices are not "connected". If, on my iphone I click on MacBook Pro - Not Connected" I can see on my computer that it is connected for about 3 seconds and then it goes back to not being connected.
I bought my first MacBook Pro a couple of days ago. I am trying to learn everything, but the bluethooth is not working. I have a rocketfish bluethooth headset and when I pair the MacBook shows it's "Not Connected" but the headset is flashing like it has been paired. When I try to play audio to it, the audio comes from the computer.
Today my mouse ran out of batteries, so I went to get some new ones. I replaced them, the light on my mouse went on, and it seemed to be working. But, when I tried to move my clicker thing *on the computer* with my mouse, it didn't move. So, I looked at the bluetooth symbol on my computer, I'm on a MacBook, and it showed that my mouse wasn't connected. So I tried turning off the bluetooth, shutting off my mouse and turning it back on, taking out and putting the batteries back in the mouse, and none of these worked. So I went to "Browse Device" and my mouse was there, I clicked on it twice and it said "There was an error connecting to the device". I also deleted it from the bluetooth list, and I am now unable to get it back on the list!
I have a Dell Bluetooth keyboard RT7D40 and would like to use it with a MacBook Pro laptop. I tried the Bluetooth connect wizard on the Mac and it could not locate the Keyboard. Is there anything else I could try? Is there an USB adpater for the Mac so that it will locate the keyboard.
I am having trouble connecting my iPhone to my MBP via Bluetooth. Both devices are paired, I have entered the code that the MBP has asked me to input into the iPhone. Both devices are paired to each other yet they are not connected. For the most part I have never had any kind of luck using bluetooth on any device except for the Mighty Mouse I just bought.
