MacBook Pro :: Bluetooth - Unknown Phone Connecting Without Permission?

Dec 5, 2014

I own a brand new Macbook Pro (Retina, 13", mid 2014, 256 GB SSD) with OS X Yosemite. When at home, I have noticed that an unknown smartphone (seemingly a Nexus 4) sometimes connects to my Bluetooth - without me ever having given it permission to do so! (The Bluetooth icon on my menu bar tells me that the phone is connected.)

As you can imagine, the thought of other people getting access to my computer, with my computer itself carelessly accepting,  worries me quite a bit. Of course I can temporarily eliminate the problem by turning off Bluetooth, but how do I prevent this phone - or any unknown bluetooth device - from connecting to Bluetooth without permission?

OS X :: Get Unknown User On Sharing & Permission HD?

Oct 18, 2008

I just noticed on my main boot drive, in the sharing and permissions section. Their is a user named ''unknown'' This unkown user has read only permissions, and is grayed out. I have tried removing this user by clicking the minus sign. It has no effect. I cant change their privilege level either. I can do this with the other users listed. The ones that aren't grayed out. This (unknown) user is not listed with the rest of the users. Found in the sharing options, under system preferences. In fact all sharing options are turned off. I don't have a wireless network, nor do I run time machine.

Connecting Mac To Phone For Fax / Phone

Apr 24, 2012

I'd like to use my mac (Imac and Macmini) for sending/receiving faxes and perhaps for CPI (computer phone integration).I have obtained a USRobotics usb modem. The question I have is do I need to connect that modem to the same connection (using a splitter) to where my telephone handset is ?If I connect this usb modem from the macmini to the phone line (not where the handset is), can I then use the Imac to connect to the phone for fax/cpi|? It is all the same phone line and on the same wifi.

OS X :: Bluetooth Transfer To LG Phone Blocked

Feb 2, 2010

Until the recent large update (149 mgb) to iTunes I was able to pair my LG phone to my wife's iMac and transfer mp3 files either way using Bluetooth. Now when I pair the phone and go to Browse Device on the iMac it lists all of my phone memory files but will only open the the SDPicture file. When I click on the SDMusic file it says operation failed. Is this just Apple protecting their rice bowl with regard to music sales or is it a glitch in the software?

Software :: Can A Bluetooth Phone Be Used For A Backup Device

Feb 1, 2008

I'm going to be getting a new phone very soon. I'm looking at the LG UX380 because it supports a 4GB memory card.

I don't really care about the music because I have many iPods to use.

That got me to thinking though - can I simply drag files to my phone from my iMac?

If that works, then maybe I could use Automator to set up a schedule to backup some of my more important stuff, then I can take it with me.

OS X :: Bluetooth Connectivity To A Verison Samsung Phone?

Dec 28, 2008

I dunno if i'm posting this is the right thread, so mods, please move it if it isn't (i'm rather new to this forum)but anyhowI'm having problems connecting my Samsung ALIAS SCH-U740 to my macbook pro via bluetooth. I have a card reader, but i left it at school for the break and i was trying to get file transfers to work over bluetooth.after poking around in the phone settings and getting the phone to be recognized by the computer, i got it connected fairly easily, but my problem is this: firstly, in the bluetooth menu, it says the phone is "not connected" and i can't find a way to make it stay connected. Second, when i try to browse my phone via bluetooth, i get an error that says that my phone doesn't have the necessary services.

MacBook Pro :: Bluetooth Keyboard Not Connecting - How To Set It Up

Jul 20, 2009

My Apple keyboard has worked fine. Last night I lost my connection for the mouse and the keyboard(not unusual for the mouse). Had to set up both again. Mouse connected easily, keyboard took forever. Bluetooth would recognize it, it was discoverable(blinking green light), batteries strong, but could not make the connection. I did this over and over, finally got it. Tonight, same thing. Lost the mouse and the keyboard. Set them up again and same thing, mouse easy and keyboard still isn';t connected.

MacBook Pro :: Connecting IPhone 3G Via Bluetooth

Aug 1, 2009

I'm trying to connect my iPhone to my new mbp via bluetooth. The ultimate goal is being able to tether, using my different carrier profile that I have (4.0 maybe?). The thing I don't understand is that this worked legitimately like last week and then I got a new hdd and it now doesn't connect via bluetooth. If I go through the set up assistant, I can get the devices paired, but on both my computer and my iphone it says the devices are not "connected". If, on my iphone I click on MacBook Pro - Not Connected" I can see on my computer that it is connected for about 3 seconds and then it goes back to not being connected.

MacBook :: Bluetooth Mouse - Error Connecting To Device

May 2, 2009

Today my mouse ran out of batteries, so I went to get some new ones. I replaced them, the light on my mouse went on, and it seemed to be working. But, when I tried to move my clicker thing *on the computer* with my mouse, it didn't move. So, I looked at the bluetooth symbol on my computer, I'm on a MacBook, and it showed that my mouse wasn't connected. So I tried turning off the bluetooth, shutting off my mouse and turning it back on, taking out and putting the batteries back in the mouse, and none of these worked. So I went to "Browse Device" and my mouse was there, I clicked on it twice and it said "There was an error connecting to the device". I also deleted it from the bluetooth list, and I am now unable to get it back on the list!
