OS X :: Connect To The Internet Via Wifi / Possible To Send A Fax To A Phone Number?
Sep 22, 2010
I have a MacBook running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I connect to the internet via wifi, and I was wondering if it was at all possible to send a fax to a phone number. I have a PDF file I'd like to fax, but I personally don't have a fax line.
I'm looking for a program/app that will allow me to primarily send SMS from my Mac using my current phone number. Does anyone know if anything like this exists? I can only think of something like this working in one of two ways: Sending an SMS composed on my Mac through my mobile/cell, via Bluetooth or some other method? OR Using software that emulates my mobile number to compose and send SMS?
I remember back in the day you could actually email an SMS to a phone by using their mobile number as a username and their network as the domain - e.g. 07123456789@orange.net. Unfortunately, because pretty much all the networks now provide email services too, doing that nowadays means they will actually receive an email at their online account instead of their SMS inbox.......................
I am in India with a cell phone that has an unlimited data plan and legally allows tethering and has blue tooth. I am trying to connect to the Internet through the cell phone using blue tooth to my Macbook. I can "pair" with the cell phone but cannot connect. My new Macbook is running Snow Leopard
I can see the Nokia 7210 by clicking on the bluetooth icon upper right on the Mac. I can see the Macbook in the cellphone and click on connect in the cell phone.
Then the cell phone says "connecting to Macbook" followed by "service not supported by other device".
I have clicked on every combination I can find in blue tooth preferences on the Mac but can't get it to connect. Under blue tooth in the Mac it says paired but not connected.
Sometimes the Mac asks for a user name and pass code for the cell phone and it also asks for APN whatever that is. The owner of this cell phone tells me there isn't any username or passcode necessary and he has successfully connected through Windows notebooks without so using.
Recently did a reinstall now I cant connect to the internet wirelessly. It worked fine before, all other computers in the house still work on the network.
Macbook (OS X 10.5) SpeedStream Wireless Modem (Bell Sympatico Provider)
- It Shows me connecting to the network fine but It wont load up any net. - My wired connection works. - I cant access my router page via browser unless I am hardwired to the modem (Should I be able to without internet access if I am actually connected to the network?)
I notice when hard wired I get settings of. IP: 192.168.2.10 Subnet: 255.255.255.0
When not Wired I get IP: 169.254.209.184 Subnet: 255.255.0.0 (I renewed DHCP lease and get the same) (I entered all the IP and Subnet manually (same as wired settings) but it still would not connect.
I also tried re-install os X, as well as resetting my modem and setting my home network back up.
I have moved to a new place and I was able to connect my imac and mobile devices to the internet via WIFI but not my macbook pro. I have tried all the suggestions I have seen here but didn't work. Such as: turning off and on the airport, restarting the router, renewing DHCP lease, entering all ip data manually, deleting the network and putting it back, etc.
At my uni campus they have wifi everywhere, but when you connect to it (which my mac does automatically) you have to go in through a login page before you can use it. How can i get it to login once it connects to the wifi (i do use other wifi connections which dont require login). There is no wifi password (just the login page). Other than for ease of use, the other reason i am doing this is because i am setting up my cam to take pictures of a thief if my mac were to be stolen (then upload to ftp). The more auto connected internet - the better.
I have a problem with my magic mouse, whenever the mouse is connected, I am not able to connect to the ineternet via wi-fi.When the bluetooth is off and I use a different mouse everything is ok.
Do u have any idea what could it be, or how to fix it?
I have a MacBook Air and when I'm at home or in a hotel I can easily connect to the internet via the WiFi. I am going to be spending some time with a family member and they do not have internet or a computer - what is the easiest and cheapest way for me to be able to use the internet on my MacBook Air at their house? I am thinking a dongle but don't know anything about them.
I just reconfigured my adsl2+ wifi router and after that wifi gets connected and I can access the router but I am not able to connect to the internet .
I have a rather weird problem with my MacBook Pro Retina late 2012. You see, I can connect to Wi-Fi. However, I can't surf the web on Safari or Mozilla. It's like the internet is blocked.
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, Other OS, OS X Yosemite Beta 2
I have the 13" Macbook Pro mid 2012 model and for some reason the wifi status bar would show full strength however when I open up Chrome or Safari the webpages won't load at all. I'll get a message saying something like "can't connect to Internet." I first thought it was my modem but all the lights are lit up and it shows I do have an Internet connection. I get the same problem with my ipod touch 4g as well. Only on the ipod's side it will try and connect but fails to do so at all. So I have two devices that fail to connect despite an existing Internet connection.
iMessage does not show my phone number on iMac. My family has 3 iPhones we sync to this computer and only the other two are available to checkmark in preferences on the iMac. I tried updating my profile online, but only my number is listed on my account. iMessages works fine on my phone. I've tried signing out and back in and rebooting.Â
How do change phone no on iCloud keychain? currently i am running 10.9.4 mavericks and there is no option to change phone no under prefreces> iCloud>account details. i can only see option to change security code.
I wonder is someone knows how do a batch change in address book. I'm changing phone operator and I have to change the phone number prefix from "041" to "015" to all my contacts. I've tried to find some applescript but I've found only to change the whole number.
I have recently upgraded from OS X 10.6.x to 10.7.x.I did a manual migration of my user data as I found there was not enough granularity in the Migration Assistant, in terms of what does and does not get migrated over. One thing I have not figured out is where the custom Phone number formats are stored for Address Book. I have about 20+ phone number formats set up in preferences on my 10.6.x installation. I would like to bring them directly over to Address Book on the 10.7.x installation.Which file to I copy over?
I'm new to using the Apple Calendar to list new events added. Previously, I used Microsoft Outlook 2010 for my business needs on my old PC and that worked perfectly for adding new jobs. Recently I made the change to a 27" iMac running Yosemite (which I love) and I purchased MS Office 365 for all of my business templates and approximately 1,000 customers. The MS Outlook program is having a lot of trouble syncing to the Apple Calendar which wasn't a problem on my old PC.
So, I thought that I could just use the suite of programs included with my new iMac instead of Outlook. Unfortunately, when adding a new event and add a customer as a location, it will only list their address and not their phone number which is something that I must have. I understand that I will have the contacts listed with me always, but I don't want to have to switch between programs to pull up the listed contacts #. If this is not available then I fear that I will have to revert back to MS Outlook and just figure out what is preventing it from properly syncing with Calendar. I use the Calendar app on both my iPhone 5 and my iPad Air religiously so in the end it all comes back to Calendar.
Info: iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
My iMessage stopped receiving messages sent to my phone number. I can only send and receive using my apple ID which is my email address. It use to be where my phone and laptop were completely synced now its either have a conversation on my phone or on my computer.Â
I have tried to add my number to both iMessage and FaceTime but it will only allow an email address to be added. I checked my Apple ID and my phone number is there. I don't know why my phone number mysteriously disappeared, it had been linked since I got my MacBook.
Will the ability to unify an Apple ID and a phone number be released with Mountain Lion or iOS6? I am wondering when I can take advantage of this feature.
I have a MacBook Pro and I just got it,I'm trying to log in to my iCloud but i can not access my number to verify the code they are trying to text me because i changed my number. What do i do now ?
I have an AT&T phone, not an iPhone, but I want to make a ringtone for it using a song in my iTunes library. I want only like a 30 second part of the song, and I was wondering if anyone knew any good software to make and send it to the phone? I have an MP3 compatible ringtone phone, however it's a Pay As You Go so I'm not sure as far as capabilities go...I think I know how to SMS it to my phone but I need to find a good software to cut, clip, and maybe change format if needed.
My macbook connects to my wifi connection which is secured without any issues. However it wont let me connect to the internet. I keep getting a message on the airport icon that has an exclamation point on it that says "no internet connection available." Also, when I open up the network settings under the airport settings, it says self assigned ip address can not connect to internet. I have no idea what is going on because all of my other computers and xbox is connecting to the internet just fine. I already tried to restart the router and the modem and I also emptied the cache on the macbook. I tried to call Comcast but they were not very helpful.
