Does anyone know how the ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB compares on performance to the shared 256MB in new Minis? Also, in iMacs with an 800mhz system bus that have 667mhz ram preinstalled, will they take (and run at full capacity) 800mhz ram?
View 1 Repliesfirst time poster; I've recently acquired a iMac(8,1) and I was hoping to use it to edit video footage. I'm debating whether I should purchase Final Cut Studio. I was told it wouldn't really be worth it unless the graphics card was Dedicated as opposed to Integrated.
I'm not sure if the computers powerful enough to run studio - or perhaps just Final Cut Pro. The Graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT. Is this graphics card sufficient to run Final Cut studio?
I'm trying to print a .psd image from Photoshop CS5 using my Epson Photo Stylus 2400 printer. Yesterday, I downloaded a suggested upgrade and it hasn't worked since then. I used Time Machine and replaced the Epson utility with the old one. I then get a message:
Waiting for printer to become available... and nothing happens. I need to be able to print!

I did a google search and found many other posts about this issue as well and it appears to be a driver issue.
When I'm in windows I run games mainly, but I also surf the web etc and do normal browsing as well.
When I export a QT video in Final Cut Pro, I look at iStat and my CPU usage is total around 25%, with that usage being spread evenly through the cores. Is there a way to get it to take absolute full advantage of the processors, or is it doing its best job?

I just bought my macbook this past weekend. I've noticed a drop of over 100 mAH in my battery's full capacity, after two cycles. Is this normal? Does this drop slow down?

On first charge it indicated 6580mAh, then on second charge 6685mAh(which the software indicated that I was able to fully charge to this capacity), then now after I unplugged it for a bit it now says the full charge capacity is 6850mAh. I'm planning to calibrate my battery on this discharge.

Have any of you guys noticed that the full charge battery capacity, which is found under system profiler-power, varies often. When I first got the macbook pro the full charge capacity of the battery was around 6830. Now with each charge it seems to go down slowly. At first it jumped from 6800 to 6600 and now stays at around 6520. Is this normal?

I check my HD and it was almost full to capacity, it shows I had 2.2 TB of photos and 1.5 TB of audio.
I don't know if this photos and music kept adding each time I sync my iphone or each time i log on to Facebook.
Anyway I would like to FREE UP THE SPACE but how, and would I need to have 3plus TB of external DH to do this, or what??????

View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought a 3rd party battery for my MBP. I put it in and after cycling the battery i noticed that the full charge capacity was only 3990mAh (supposed to be 5500mAh). I returned the battery today and got and an upgraded replacement. this shows the full charge capacity at 4995mAh (supposed to be 5600mAh).
is this normal. Do I just need to give it some time or is it something with the batteries.
Just wondering if anyone's tried to run Mac OSX 10.5 on their 800mhz G4 and how the performance is (good/bad)? Obviously the cutoff is 867mhz.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Mac OS X Tiger on my iMac G4 17" i know Tiger is outdated, but it's faster than Leopard and Tiger still runs fine.now i tried to install Mac OS 9 too. For some performance reasons. But after the Welcome Screen, the Display turns black and i can't see nothing It's the original Mac OS 9 CD from the iMac G4. And it's the original rom, i never changed anything. Maybe Mac OS 9 doesn't have the right kext for the iMac?

Now, my poor little G4 was just standing there. After a lot of fumbling around, restores, it finally has regained life, running Tiger etc.
Now, I wanted to install Leopard, see for myself what I would prefer, and it would allow to tether wireless internet connection through my iPhone to the G4. But I need Leopard for that, Tiger is too old.
So, after Googling, I found out that if I put my Intel into Target Disk mode, I could use it as external DVD reader, seeing my G4's reader is dead as dead can be.
Further to one of my previous questions i have now managed to get hold of OSX tiger for my Imac G4 800mhz superdrive. However no matter what I try I cannot get this to install. If I go through custom instal it checks my disk and then comes up with a notice saying "mail cannot be intalled on this computer - intallation not possible" or something along these lines. I have also tried restarting while holding down the command button but the 10.4 disk does not appear. I have completely wiped my harddrive and reinstalled my original osx 10.3 and even taken out the airport card and additional ram memory card which i thought was causing the problem.

Has it frozen more than once since the time you've received it. Hopefully we can get some idea of what's going on. specify what CPU your system is running (2.93 or 3.06 ghz), along with info when you ordered the system, and when it was shipped.

Obviously, the 4850 is more powerful, but if these two cards had the exact same specs, would ATI or nVidia be the better choice?
Which company is Apple leaning towards, which company produces better Mac drivers, how will OpenCL play into this, etc.
I got my wife the new iMac with a Radeon 4850 to replace her ancient PC (and I meant ANCIENT) and she had massive issues with lockups due to overheating, especially when playing fullscreen 3D games like World of Warcraft in Mac OSX or any of her Windows XP games in bootcamp.
After the EFI Firmware Update 1.4 she's had far less issues, but she's still had 1 lockup (playing Diablo 2 stangly enough, a very old low detail game) and graphical glitches in WoW which caused her to stop playing out of fear of a lockup before it could happen.
Her computer temps are still extremely high but our house temp is only 72degrees.
Loving the new iMac revisions and have placed my order for the Core i7 configuration with 8 Gigs of RAM, the only thing that slightly concerns me is Apple putting the ATI 4850 GPU in this machine as this card has been around for well over a year. Having a young family my iMac really has to last me (current Mac is my old but faithful 800Mhz G4 Angle Poise 17" screen iMac) so don't want to get caught out with an "old" GPU that within a 2-3 years won't be able to cope with current day demands placed on it. My usage is photo manipulation, a bit of FCP and I want to be able to play some 3D games etc. but I'm by no means some games enthusiast who requires the highest frame rate, highest settings. Figure I have two option:
A. Bite the bullet now - this iMac has almost everything I want - been waiting for Quad Core desktop chip and LED screen but icing on the cake would have been better GPU and Blu-ray option.
B. Wait yet another update (figure March / April 2010) in the hope that Apple put in a more current GPU and possibly Blu-ray option. HOWEVER I figure that this is probably a fools game as who knows regarding Blu-ray and obviously a more current GPU will be fitted but probably won't be the most extreme one as Apple tend not to figure that this is a priority on the iMac.
My inclination is that this update will probably be absolutely fantastic and my GPU worries are probably unfounded as I'll never want to push it to gaming extremes but interested what others may think.
My cousin is considering getting a new iMac, and he's not sure if he should go with the $1199 model that comes with an Nvidia GeForce 9400M or the $1499 model that has an ATI Radeon HD 4670. He's going to be doing a lot of video editing with Final Cut and Motion, and not so much 3D gaming. But perhaps some 3D modeling and animation. Is it worth the extra $300 for the ATI graphics card, or will he find that the Nvidia card is good enough for what he wants?
