Mac Pro :: Final Cut Pro Rendering Using Full Capacity Of 8 Cores?
Jan 18, 2008
When I export a QT video in Final Cut Pro, I look at iStat and my CPU usage is total around 25%, with that usage being spread evenly through the cores. Is there a way to get it to take absolute full advantage of the processors, or is it doing its best job?
I have the new octo 2.8 MP.

Aghh, i am so annoyed that i have to render everytime i make little changes i have to render the whole video project. I know there is a way i can render it once and just once. I heard of a program called MPEG StreamClip, but it did not work for me. The instructions i fallowed where: Open video, and drag it to MPEG STREAMCLIP. Export to Quicktime these are the settings i used....
screen shot here
According to the person who provided the instructions, i was only suppose to mess with the settings highlighted in the screen shot. Sadly, this did not help, i still have to render. Does anyone else do it differently?

So ive been having alot of trouble with rendering a 6 minute video on Final Cut Pro X.
I go to file, share, and use HD 1080p, the video gets about 25% through when this error comes ups:
and then when i click on 'details' this comes up:
Ive looked up this problem and I cannot find a solution, I've tried doing whatever i can think of like copy and pasting it all into a different project and trying that, creating a new event and pasting it into a project there, ive tried turning off App Nap too.
Also, all throughout editing this actual video i kept running out of disk space and alot of errors would come up, so when this error came up i thought it might be that and i deleted alot of things i didnt need and cleared out my trash but it hasnt made a difference.

Final Cut Pro X, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

I have been a pc user my whole life and am researching to get a mac because I have used the imove at my friend's imac and it was NIZzzzze! Anyways, I would like to get the base model of the mac mini (probably upgrading the ram to 4gb) along with Final Cut Express 4. Does the mac mini have enough juice to run Final Cut Express 4? Anyone has any pointers in terms of rendering with Final Cut Express 4?

I have an iMac with a 2.8 GHz intel core 2 Duo, 2GB 667 MHz SDRAM, and a 750 GB hard drive with over 400 GB of free space. I just purchased Final Cut Express 4 and when I uploaded my first clip and I tried to render it, it said that I have "insufficient disk space to render." I don't understand how this is possible, I may just have a setting messed up but I need step by step instructions to switch that setting

I recorded some gameplay footage using Yosemite's Quicktime Movie Recording feature. The audio is there when I play the quicktime, but when I drop it into Final Cut Pro 7, it wants to render the audio. I render it, but the audio is gone. Any way to have it convert the audio?

I just bought my macbook this past weekend. I've noticed a drop of over 100 mAH in my battery's full capacity, after two cycles. Is this normal? Does this drop slow down?

I noticed that the full charge capacity for my mac varies. On first charge it indicated 6580mAh, then on second charge 6685mAh(which the software indicated that I was able to fully charge to this capacity), then now after I unplugged it for a bit it now says the full charge capacity is 6850mAh. I'm planning to calibrate my battery on this discharge.

I received my new 15", i7, 128gb ssd, 8gb ram macbook pro on april 19th. I love it and have no problems. Have any of you guys noticed that the full charge battery capacity, which is found under system profiler-power, varies often. When I first got the macbook pro the full charge capacity of the battery was around 6830. Now with each charge it seems to go down slowly. At first it jumped from 6800 to 6600 and now stays at around 6520. Is this normal?

what is the default Full Charge Capacity (mAh) of MBPr 13" battery when it's new? Recently I noticed that on my device it shows only 6069 mAh, though my device is barely a year old and has only 41 charge cycles (of 1000).

I had to delete a Yosemite partition I created on my mid 2012 macbook pro because the 16gig available filled up fast.
I check my HD and it was almost full to capacity, it shows I had 2.2 TB of photos and 1.5 TB of audio.
I don't know if this photos and music kept adding each time I sync my iphone or each time i log on to Facebook.
Anyway I would like to FREE UP THE SPACE but how, and would I need to have 3plus TB of external DH to do this, or what??????

Does anyone know how the ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB compares on performance to the shared 256MB in new Minis? Also, in iMacs with an 800mhz system bus that have 667mhz ram preinstalled, will they take (and run at full capacity) 800mhz ram?

I bought a 3rd party battery for my MBP. I put it in and after cycling the battery i noticed that the full charge capacity was only 3990mAh (supposed to be 5500mAh). I returned the battery today and got and an upgraded replacement. this shows the full charge capacity at 4995mAh (supposed to be 5600mAh).
is this normal. Do I just need to give it some time or is it something with the batteries.

I Have been agonizing over which Mac Pro would optimize the performance of my Digital Audio Workstations, Pro Tools in particular. Honestly, I have been back and forth with deliberating that now I am burnt out,
I hear Mixed Reviews on the New Nehalem 2.26 GHz Mac Pro Octo. I have also come to believe that 8 Cores Benefit Video More Than Audio, the diagnosis being that 8 Cores Is Overkill for audio. Is Pro Tools A Multi-Threaded App. And What Mac Pro Would Be Best For Audio?

Just updated to 10.1.2 and now the letterbox effect is not visible if i view in full screen but is working in normal interface viewer.
Instead if I keep a png cinema-scope 2:35:1 on top of all the layers... in normal viewer its fine. but if i view in full screen (viewer) the cinemascope does not work on the top and only on the bottom it is visible in unusual size...

I recently was editing a project and this message popped up: "The hard disk where your library is located may be fullor unavailable or permissions may have changed. To avoid losing your work, quit Final Cut Pro." I proceeded to quite Final Cut Pro, but when I re-opened it moments later the project was no longer listed under the Projects tab. I had been working on this project for several months and it had been saving without a problem until today, where now it appears to be completely gone.
I looked in my finder and the project still exists under the "Backups" folder, but for some reason it is just not showing up in Final Cut Pro. I've recently updated final cut to the latest version so I wasn't sure if that had something to do with it.

I hear people saying stuff like " to bad that 8 cores wont be used" Or " 8 cores can actually be slower and 2 cores"
How is that?
Wouldn't a 8 core 2.8ghz be faster than the 4 core 2.8ghz in the mac pro?
What would the 8 core be good for? Or doing what puts those 8 cores to use?
And finally is the 8 cores worth getting?

People that use lightroom, can you look at your CPU usage for all 4/8 cores and tell me what the usage is when your importing/searching/doing whatever and if there is any point in me getting 8 instead of 4 cores (Save myself 300 and get 8gb ram vs 4Gb!)
System will be on 300Gb Velociraptor and data on a 1TB Samsung F1, so lets say IO won't be that bottlenecked.

I used to have an Apple application that sat in the menu bar. It gave you the option to select how many processors/cores you wanted to utilize. You could turn off the others.
Does anyone know what's it called and where to find it?

Which, if any, of the video editors make use of all eight cores of the Mac Pro? I haven't tried the pro apps yet, but CPU utilization for iMovieHD was only about 200% on the one project I have done on my new 2.8 Octo. It seems like this would be widely-known information, but I was unable to find it on Apple's site, and my extensive search of this forum was unavailing.

Are the incremental steps in processor options worth it? are they significant enough to notice performance increases? especially heavy files in photoshop
Also is the 8800 GT worth getting over the 2600 XT. and can one have two 8800's (or is that too much power draw). I am assuming you can have one of each (1x 8800 + 1x 2600) so you can run 3 spanning 30's. Any drawbacks in have spanning screens with different spec cards?

Are there any producers or audio engineers out there who have an opinion on which of the new Mac Pros would be best for a DAW using Pro Tools LE? I'm not able to find much information on whether having more cores or a higher clock speed is beneficial.
