IMac :: 21.5'' 3GHz Long Steady Beep?
Dec 26, 2009my 21.5 has just now for the second time emitted a long, steady 4 second beep. This bothers me. What could this be here?

PowerPC :: IBook 12" Doesn't Startup After 1 Long Beep
Jul 4, 2006I have a 4 month old iBook 12" 1.33/512/40/combo with the following problem. It went into sleep mode and never woke up. after complete reboot 1 long beep and silence. after taking the battery out and disconnect for about 4 hours I get the beep, but inbetween absolute nothing. Anyone has tips or a solution. there is no additional memory installed.

Apr 21, 2010I just got my new 15" i7 MBP yesterday. It has the 7200 RPM option. I've noticed a steady vibration under my right hand/wrist just to the right of the trackpad. This is constant. Its not limited to just those times when the hard drive is spinning. I won't say its enough to be annoying, but it is different. I never noticed this on my older non-unibody MBP but then again that area contained the Superdrive in the past. This feels like either a hard disk spinning or a fan turning, can't tell which.

Aug 18, 2009My MacBook light no longer pulses gently when the computer goes into sleep mode after the cover is closed. This doesn't seem to be affecting battery life, so it is clearly going into sleep mode as always. It's not a huge problem, but I was wondering if anyone else has seen it.

Does this mean that I can use a half length AGP video card in this model Xserve? I have the chance to buy one for hundreds less than a comparable Powermac and was wondering if I was going to be stuck with PCI video.

Power Mac :: Converting An Early 2005 2.0ghz To A 2.3ghz?
Jun 21, 2012i fell into an early powermac g5 2.0ghz. the processor runs fine for what i need but id like more memory than the 4gb allowed. ive found some reasonably priced 2.3 processors on ebay and such and was wondering if i can swap them out and put 2gb of memory in each slot to bump up to 8gb allowed with the stock 2.3ghz machine? or am i just stuck where im at? the processors on ebay are complete units, so i would just be swaping out the whole set, no soldering etc.

Jan 20, 2009Well im concerned that my imac is slowing down and is taking to long to boot-up, because when i first got him the imac was a bit faster. So i was thinking i should ask you guys for your boot-up duration before i reinstall Mac OS X. Jun 17, 2012I discovered my iMac shut down and to start. I feared it had been fried in an electrical storm the day before, though the whole house is surge protected, and a printer on the same plug was unaffected. I tried unplugging briefly, still no luck. I tried hitting the start button ( on the iMac itself, not the keyboard) a few times over a couple of days with no luck, and unplugged it in prepartion to cart off to a repair shop, fearing the worst. A couple of days later, I plugged it in for one last try before taking it to the car and, bingo, it started! Everything was fine, everything in its place.
A couple of weeks later, I once again notice the computer is turned off and will not restart. I uplug and replug - no luck. I unplug, let it sit, and try it again about 24 hours later.

Jun 12, 2012Ive been waiting and waiting for the iMac to be updated, I held out hope for it at WWDC but we all know how that turned out. My question is 2.3ghz VS 2.6ghz Retina is it worth the extra money? I know you also get another 256gb of space but man $600 is a lot. So it hinges on the 2.3-2.6 upgrade as i think i can live withough the extra disk space. Should i just get the 2.3 and save the money or is 2.6 going to be a noticable difference. Im a graphic designer so ill have illi, photoshop and indesign open at the same time along with itunes, lots of safari, font management and atleast word

Sep 17, 2008I have a Power Mac G5 2.3Ghz dual-core system (M9591LL/A) with 2.5GBs of RAM and an Nvidia 6600 PCIe graphics card with 256MBs of RAM.
I tried playing a full-screen HD episode of "The Office" on Hulu.com and it was extremely choppy (like 0.5fps). The sound was fine. It's still quite choppy (~2fps) in a normal browser window (not full-screen)
Is this normal? Does this video card not support it? What is the most powerful card that can be installed in this machine? I'm not opposed to buying a PC card and flashing the ROM if need-be.

IMac :: Internet Connection Slow - Taking Long To Take Pages
Sep 16, 2010I recently bought a 27'' iMac (3.2 GHz Intel Core i3, OSX10.6.4) and all was fine and dandy until yesterday when my internet connection suddenly got very slow. It takes forever to load pages, if they load at all. The rest of the iMac is fine as before, which leads me to conclude this is an internet issue. I cleared the cache and browsing history in Google Chrome and no improvement. I tried using Safari and Firefox and they were slow too.
I also have a MacBookPro (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OSX10.6.4), so I checked the internet speed on that and it was normal. Both MBP and iMac are connected via an Airport Express. I searched various forums and threads for a solution, but I know very little when it come to these things so I quickly got stuck in technical jargon. I've tried to change the DNS server settings (first to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2, then to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) but this has not helped.

Oct 28, 2009Since i got my 24" imac back 2 years ago, i always put it into sleep mode. I upgraded to SL a couple weeks back. Just in the past 2 days, when i put it into sleep mode, it takes a while for it to actually perform this operation. Anyone know what might be the problem?

Nov 7, 2010My 17" ALS Imac is not booting (tiger OS). I will preface this by stating the hard drive has been whining and making a lot of noise for the past year or two. Anyway, a few days ago it froze up and I had to pull the power plug. I tried to restart and got a plain gray screen and saw a question mark. Now when I try to retsart I get a plain gray screen with the following message:
Invalid memory access at: 0SRRO: (then a long address)
WELCOME TO OPEN FIRMWARE
To continue booting type "mac-boot"
To shut down type "shut down"
After I type mac-boot the hard drive (or cd drive?) starts racing quite loudly and then it freezes up and displays a grayish screen with dozens of short, yellowish, horizontal lines and I have to pull the plug again. I have been anticipating a hard driver failure for a while so at first assumed that was the problem, but now I see this memory error and am not so sure. I was planning to purchase a 1 TB drive and maybe upgrade the OS at the same time . Basically I am wondering if I should go ahead and do this or run some additional diagnostics first in case it's something else?

Besides the basic stuff like doing kids homework, my main intensive use is to use imovie for family video editing. I have a HD sony camcorder and with my current mac its impossible to work. Now with the new imacs I would like to know what option will be better for those long processes in imovie (importing, exporting, stabilization, etc). better processor: core 2 duo 3.06 or i5 more memory: 4 vs 8 gb better graphics: 4670 vs 4850.

May 8, 2010I received a new iMac about 2 weeks ago, and I'd like to know how long the battery is suppose to roughly last for the keyboard and magic mouse. When I installed iStat Pro widget, it showed the battery power for my mouse, but the keyboard has never showed up. My mouse has been steadily losing battery power and is now at 28%. However, bluetooth states the power to my keyboard is 100%. This doesn't seem correct.
One other thing I've noticed in the bluetooth menu, under devices, is that the keyboard is labeled as "Apple Wireless Keyboard", while the mouse is title's my name's mouse (I.e.: "Darkroom's Mouse"). This may just nothing, but I'm assuming it's another symptom of my keyboard not being fully read by the OS.

Dec 15, 2010I bought a 13 macbook pro a few weeks ago. My first mac, and I absolutely love it, but I noticed a strange thing occur a few times I restart or power up my mac. I came home after work and turned the computer on, I pressed the power button and the computer let out a loud, drawn out beep, and didnt turn on. I pressed teh button again and finally the start up sound went off, the disk drive spun, and everything ran smoothly. This has happened on more than one occasion, and just the other night, I installed an update and restarted the machine. As soon as the machine restarted, the beeping went off again, followed by the start up noise, followed by the grey loading screen. Anyone else familiar or experience this strange, loud, drawn out beep when they restart or try to turn their machine on? I'm just wondering if I need to be concerned or if this happens to others?

Mar 17, 2010When I turn on my macbook pro I'm getting a single beep followed by nothing. It started happening all of a sudden a few days ago. Following the beep, I hold down the power button to turn it off again and start it up and then usually get nothing a couple of times - eventually after 2/3 goes at turning it on and off, it'll eventually start up as usual. I've read that 1 beep signals a problem with RAM? Is that right? The RAM I have in there what it came with so I can't imagine it's that.

Dec 3, 2008My Macbook is awesome, absolutely no complaints except for this loud "Ding-dong" noise that comes at really random times. It's sort of fuzzy, like a recording on a cell phone (which I'm sure it's not), and it's just a higher pitched beep then a slightly lower pitched beep.
I've searched everywhere and I haven't found any posts or anything at all like this. I can have no applications open, other than background processes (I'll list those below) and it'll make the noise. So I sort of assume it's either some ridiculous Leopard malfunction or that it's one of the Preference Panes I have installed. If anyone has this same problem let me know, I'm going to start recording exactly what's open whenever it makes the noise and try to find something in common between them.

Everything seems to be working fine.However, when I press the power button to switch on the Mac, there is a immediate loud single beep. I am using refit & the beep happens before the list of OS's appears.There is a system setting in the ARECA config web interface that allows me to
disable the system beeper but it doesn't seem to stop the beep.
