Jan 20, 2009
Well im concerned that my imac is slowing down and is taking to long to boot-up, because when i first got him the imac was a bit faster. So i was thinking i should ask you guys for your boot-up duration before i reinstall Mac OS X. My MBP is also slowing down, don't know if im doing anything wrong so would love to know how long others boot-up lasts.

I'm currently running my mac with an SSD in place of my original HDD and my HDD in place of my optical drive. For some reason when I try and boot down my mac it is taking an unusually long time considering I'm running my OS on an SSD. Here is the shutdown system log for the process which is taking a long time.

The actual boot up time is very fast. However, when my dock and menu bar load, it takes like a minute before any apps begin launching. I only have Caffeine launching at start up.

My daughter purchased a MacBook Air 13" last 1.7 GH Intel Core i5, 4GB Memory. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter noticed that her computer was taking a long time to boot up. Apparently the bootup time has progressively lengthened to 3 - 5 minutes to get to her desktop. What happens is the boot-up process seems to stall on a grey screen and beach-balls until the desktop eventually appears.

I've had a Vista 32 PC and it booted pretty fast. I now have a fully loaded iMac (newest one available) and Vista takes abnormally long to start. OS X boots very fast, and once Vista is loaded, it runs normal, no problems. I'm just wondering if there is a way to reduce the boot time, and why it would take longer to boot on this more powerful computer than my last generic PC, or if that's just a drawback of boot camp.

I recently bought a 27'' iMac (3.2 GHz Intel Core i3, OSX10.6.4) and all was fine and dandy until yesterday when my internet connection suddenly got very slow. It takes forever to load pages, if they load at all. The rest of the iMac is fine as before, which leads me to conclude this is an internet issue. I cleared the cache and browsing history in Google Chrome and no improvement. I tried using Safari and Firefox and they were slow too.
I also have a MacBookPro (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OSX10.6.4), so I checked the internet speed on that and it was normal. Both MBP and iMac are connected via an Airport Express. I searched various forums and threads for a solution, but I know very little when it come to these things so I quickly got stuck in technical jargon. I've tried to change the DNS server settings (first to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2, then to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) but this has not helped.

I have a 2 week old iMac 27", i7, 2tb Hard Drive, 16gb RM
In the second week the boot up times became very slow.
I would turn the machine on and get the chime within 5 seconds or so.
Then just a black/blank screen.
Eventually after about 10mins I would get a white screen then it would boot up normally.
Now the machine just doesn't get to the white screen. So I get the chime and then just darkness. It does sound like the machine is on (usual quiet imac whirring).
I've tried various key commands when I turn the machine on including pressing C with the install disk in the dvd drive and the alt, control, P, R pram reset.
I've also tried unplugging all the cables, leaving the machine for a minute and switching back on. I did manage to perform the PRAM reset once. I reset the machine and it booted fine.
But now when I switch it on just darkness.
I've called after sales and will try to get the machine replaced but in the meantime is there anything I could try that might make the machine work? I need to do a remix this weekend (deadline Monday) so really need to get it working.

Recently my iMac has been booting really slow and I've run out of ideas to fix it. So far I've used Onyx to tune everything up, repaired permissions, repaired disk using the disk utility (no errors came up), and I've cleared PRAM. I have XP as a partition using Boot Camp. Its starting to get really annoying.

I have a mid 2011 27" iMac that is taking longer than 3 minutes to boot. I've tried turning off everything in the start up menu, but that hasn't worked. In one of the other questions like this, Linc, I believe said to go to terminal and post to questions the output showed up in Text edit, and I have posted them below:
Step 1:
Loaded kernel extensions:
com.logmein.driver.LogMeInSoundDriver (1.0.3)
Loaded user agents:
net.culater.SIMBL.Agent
com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist
[Code] ....
Info:
iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

My 17" ALS Imac is not booting (tiger OS). I will preface this by stating the hard drive has been whining and making a lot of noise for the past year or two. Anyway, a few days ago it froze up and I had to pull the power plug. I tried to restart and got a plain gray screen and saw a question mark. Now when I try to retsart I get a plain gray screen with the following message:
Invalid memory access at: 0SRRO: (then a long address)
WELCOME TO OPEN FIRMWARE
To continue booting type "mac-boot"
To shut down type "shut down"
After I type mac-boot the hard drive (or cd drive?) starts racing quite loudly and then it freezes up and displays a grayish screen with dozens of short, yellowish, horizontal lines and I have to pull the plug again. I have been anticipating a hard driver failure for a while so at first assumed that was the problem, but now I see this memory error and am not so sure. I was planning to purchase a 1 TB drive and maybe upgrade the OS at the same time . Basically I am wondering if I should go ahead and do this or run some additional diagnostics first in case it's something else?

I have about 22GB or about 23,500 items to be emptied from the trash. Most of items are just jpg images. I just started to commence emptying and it is taking approximate 1sec to delete one item. So by calculation, it will take 6.5 hrs. !
At same time, I'm just doing my normal spread sheet work.
Is there anything wrong?

I had codes for a movie to get from the itunes store. I started downloading them yesterday for 1 movie and the extras to that movie and it needed 20+ hrs for it to finish. Is that normal? I got 7 hrs to go with one download completed. I have a macbook pro if that matters.

media event the MBP was not even mentioned. It was pretty much the new release of the iPad. The MacBook Pro released June 08, 2009. Obviously we can see that it has been over 6 months, and down to be an update.

I have a 2.2Ghz Macbook with 2Gb ram and its running 10.5.2 (update went fine) and for some time now the start up of my mac has been very long. It sometimes take in excess of 30 minutes to turn on. It waits on the grey apple screen with the apple logo and the spinning loading sign near the bottom. Is there anything i could try without doing any major resets or reinstalls?

I have a macpro 08, with a 500gb hd. Now I buy a WD "black" HD (WDGWD1001FALS) 1tb!
1) I erase and install leopard on the 500gb, result slow read on folders content, around 9 seconds to read content of folders.
2) I eject of macpro the 1tb, and erase and install leopard again 500gb, when done... oh now great folders content load well! so I insert the 2nd hd 1tb... everything well for 1 day... now I feel again a delay on load folders! But this time is not 9 seconds! is around 2 or 3!
My question, what happened, is normal, that when insert a 2nd or 3 or 4 HDs load folders is a little more slow? I create a screenshot video attachment.

I tried running a chkdsk /f /r on my late 2008 MBP yesterday. Started around 18:30, it was still running this morning and had only got to stage 4 of 5 and was on 18%, that's over 12 hours! I'm running Windows 7 64bit RC, and the partition size is 84 GB. My desktop computer on the same o/s and a 150 GB partition, took about 45-50 mins to complete this on the weekend, and I was wondering if any other MBP users had run a full checkdisk and how long it takes on their machines?

I just noticed that my umbp is kind of slow. For example, safari used to load up less than a second. Now it takes about two to four bounces. Then, it will take 1 second to start up. On Firefox, it usually takes 5 to 6 bounces to start up as well. Could there be a lot going on through my activity monitor?

Anyone else noticed this? Compared to 10.4.x and previous gen mbp, I remember the partitioning via bootcamp used to take no longer than 45 sec to a minute. Now it takes something like 3-5 minutes to complete!

why but lately all the .wmv videos I have watched have taken an extremely long time to fully load. Before the whole file would load and I would be able to seek throughout the video to any part which I liked. Now however, the video instantaneously pops up but I have to wait for it to load before I am able to seek but I can basically watch the whole video before it fully loads (as if it was streaming).
In the attached picture, the Quicktime seek bar looks like this as I open it.
I have the free version of flip4mac, quicktime and OSX 10.5.8.

I'm at a university and I've had a MacBook Pro for about a year now. The OS is Mac OS X 10.5.8. The processor is 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. The Memory is 4 GB DDR2. When I'm at the University we use a secure wireless network. When I option click on the AirPort icon, I get the following readings:
0:26:cb:82:8d:80
Channel: 11
RSSI: -68
Transmit Rate: 130
Because it's a university-wide system, I have no idea what the router information is. When I asked our IT staff about it - a group of part-time college students - they just shrug and tell me everything is working. I can download movie files in an instant. Zip files, even the most basic ones, take about half an hour. This is true even when the movie and the zip file is on the same website. A movie file, six or eight times the size of the zip, downloads much faster. I've read through this forum and others. I followed this suggestion: I deleted my AirPort setting and reinstalled it under "wireless". This did not seem to change anything.

I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like this, but whenever I try to make a DVD from a pre-recorded movie (either something from my HD camera or downloaded off the net), it literally takes 3 hours or more per DVD for it to finish burning. This is for something that is only 30 minutes in length. The picture is also sometimes out of sync with the sound and occasionally pixelates. Using a Mac Core 8, 3.0ghz, 10GB

So I just installed Printopia on both my Macs, and I think it screwed up the sleep mode. Now when I put my Macs to sleep, it takes like 20 seconds for the screen to go off, when before it used to take less than a second.
