Icloud is missing in my preferences (intead i only find mobileMe wich i do not want to use anymore. I just upgraded the system (it's now 10.6.8) and nothing changed.
I am trying to get all my devices working together on the cloud and syncing when plugged to eachother. I schedule a meeting in iCal and it doesn't go over to the other devices. In addition, when I try to go to apple and set up the cloud, it tells me to go to the Apple Preferences and select the iCloud icon. I don't have one on my laptop.
Just upgraded to Lion on my desktop machine (iMac) and laptop (MacBook Pro). iCloud is working fine between my laptop and mobile devices (iPhone and iPad), but not with my desktop iMac. This is most obvious with iCal, which still tries to sync with MobileMe (even though the account info says its been upgraded to iCloud.
When logging onto the mac the other day, a questions mark appeared, upon logon all of my system preferences had disapeared, including Itunes, mail etc along with a number of icons. The machine did do several updates and the icons re appeared, but the Itunes and mail are still missing.
I recently noticed that my mac book pro, 17" display, with Dual 2.66 Ghz i7 processors is running slower than usual. I ran disk utility and onyx and everything is fine. When I run apps in general things seem ok except for Safari, which crawls at times and I get a lot of spinning beach balls. Seemlingly a very common problem lately. In trying to locate the source of the problem, I went to my preferences to see what OSX thought of my system. Low and behold, it thinks that I only have one CPU!!! The OS thinks I have 1 CPU where the apps know that I have 2 CPUs. When I am running apps that display the CPUs, (i.e. Activity Monitor, video apps, disk burning apps, etc) they all show 4 cores as expected. why the system would be incorrectly displaying only one i7 CPU? This has happened in recent weeks. The last time I looked (weeks ago) it correctly showed 2 i7 CPUs. I have reboted my machine several times already, so that's not it.

Using 10.5.1, no problem up until now (new 2.8 iMac). Working all day with Adobe Lightroom 1.3.1, again, no prior problems. The computer froze, which I noted when the screensaver when I left to go eat dinner stayed static without fading out to a new picture. After force quitting and restarting, I went to the System Prefs and when I went to the Desktop/Screensaver section, I got a blank window. I confirmed all the other System Prefs icons work fine. It's as if the Desktop/Screensaver settings are erased/gone/whatever.
I bought my MacBook Pro in 2009. My desktop and screensaver preferences were working and then all of a sudden disappeared (after a year or so).I've read a lot about re-installing Mac OS X and a lot of other tricks. Can someone tell me which one is the most reliable and least risky? I'm not very tech-savy and worried that somehow some of my other applications or options will disappear.
Until now I have been changing my desktop pictures using iPhoto or by right-clicking on a picture in the internet.

My account setting icon is missing in system preferences. Can anyone provide me with advice on how to fix this problem. Also, whenever I start the computer it makes me log on now.
My macbook pro is an OSX 10.5.8, purchased in January 2009.
I noticed that System Preferences, App Store no longer shows a padlock at the lower left hand corner, yet other System Preference windows show the padlock. Why is that? Is there a way to restore the padlock? I have already tried "repairing" my install and the padlock did not come back.
4. The same machine when booted in Windows (via Bootcamp/CSM-BIOS) plays perfectly and shows Cirrus Logic devices and the HDA devices. This should eliminate hardware issues.
5. I have checked for the Optical Audio microswitch being stuck, but that does not seem to be the case.
6. This was used with Apple Headphones which also have the microphone built-in [URL] ....

Comparing it to another 13" Mid 2012 MBP which has working sound.
I've just acquired a new MacBook Pro with all the trimmings, and I've been importing my iTunes library from my old Windows PC, for the most part successfully.
The one missing piece is that iTunes for Mac does not have a Books icon in the ULH corner toolbar, and when I go into Preferences there's no category "Books" for me to check.
My 2008 Mac Pro recently stopped producing any sound.
The startup chime is silent. No sound comes from the speakers at all and the line out/in options in system sound preferences are missing, although it still lists my Logitech webcam microphone and the volume meter for it responds to sound changes.
Could the sound chip on the logic board have stopped working?
Could it be a virus or a software conflict? I haven't updated the system recently or installed new software, but Skype has been acting erratically and has crashed a few times.
The missing line in/out devices in the sound preferences seems like it might be a hardware problem.
I have tried all of the normal things like checking cables and resetting pram but no change.
I have the same condition whether I boot into my primary drive or into the clone (made before the sound stopped working) on a separate drive or into Windows through Bootcamp.
If the logic board integrated sound is broken, can I add a sound card to take over the audio for everything (startup chime, audio from software and audiovisual sources, Skype, etc.)?
I've cleared the preference file and system prefs/spotlight caches with no luck. Repaired permissions. It seems the Music icon is holding up the others. If I re-arrange them they break only after "Music." This is in the console after opening the preference pane:
3/8/12 1:18:15.593 PM System Preferences: Missing icon for Music 3/8/12 1:18:15.594 PM System Preferences: Rebuilding icon cache. 3/8/12 1:18:15.773 PM System Preferences: Missing icon for Music
and earlier,
3/8/12 12:33:33.922 PM System Preferences: Missing icon for Applications 3/8/12 12:33:33.922 PM System Preferences: Rebuilding icon cache. 3/8/12 12:33:34.111 PM System Preferences: Missing icon for Music

I've made the move to iCloud, and now my laptop (Snow Leopard) can't get my mail. There's an option for continuing to use mail only on older OSs, but I can't find that option since I've already made the move. How do I "back-up" and set the preferences?

I've recently installed Lion and moved to iCloud. I have iCal set up with iCloud and it syncs with my iPad.In the iCloud System Prefs Pane, which I'd not looked at before, I have Calendars ticked, but when I click on Sign Out, I get a message telling me: "If you stop using iCloud for Calendars and Reminders, calendars and reminders stored in iCloud will be removed from this Mac."This seems to me to indicate that the message generator can't see my tick next to Calendars. Or is it that one isn't meant to sign out in this Pref Pane.?
iCloud does not show up on my system preferences, even though I just downloaded the newest iTunes, and the latest software for my mac. How else can I download it to my macbook?
I followed all instructions to move to icloud. On my iphone and ipad I can see "icloud" in my system preferences. But not on my macbook.. Nothing is sincing.
I just purchased a new macbook pro that is running OS 10.7.4. When trying to set up my iCloud acount through system preferences i got an error message saying "You can not login at this time, please try again later." Later, it still didn't work. I can access the icloud website where info from my iphone is so i know neither the password nor the username is the issue. I even changed my password to apple's new standards and that did not work.
I have downloaded the latest version of Lion and I have also checked ICloud on System preferences. I can see both my Iphone and Ipad there, but not my Mac... How can I add this thrd device there?
I was looking for an old appointment in iCal and have realised that since I started using iCloud, all my previous events are missing from my Mac. I have tried opening Time Machine but it doesn't seem to want to open iCal.If I untick all the iCloud calendars in iCal leaving only "On My Mac" ticked I end up with no events at all.
I accidently entered my Apple ID for purchases as my iCloud Apple ID while setting up my Macbook Pro. However, all my other devices use my mobileMe AppleID. How do I change the iCloud Apple ID to a different Apple ID on my Macbook Pro?
When I go to System Preferences/iCloud, I see a button for account details, but no way to change my Apple ID for iCloud.
