Mar 13, 2012I run a small business which has a new Mac Mini 10.7 and iMacs 10.5.8 which we currently store all our on-going work on a Hard Drive connected via ethernet. However, I want to try and achieve the following:
1 storage device for all work (around 1TB in size)
Access to my work from home, main office or another office
Work directly on drive (don't want to download, amend, and re-upload)
Access via various Mac OS, from 10.5-10.7
Not too expensive! Is there any on-line storage site or Live Hard Drive I can use to gain access to my work, work live directly to from various locations using the Macs as above, or am I just dreaming of something that does not exist?
I hope this makes sense, it foes to me, but do ask if I am talking gobbledegook!

Hardware :: New LCD Showing Diagonal Lines?
May 20, 2005I just received my new 17" Dell LCD (1704 FPV) yesterday and hooked it up to my windows laptop (my new Mac Mini will be here in a couple of days). After a couple of minutes of looking at it, I noticed very thin lines running diagonally and parallel over the whole screen. The lines go from top left to bottom right and appear to be moving (yesterday I thought they were moving down, today the appear to be moving up). Those lines I see are really very thin and hardly noticeable, but now I've seen them once, I see them all the time. It shows especially on a plain background, which appears to be very lightly striped. Unfortunately, it's nothing a screenshot would reveal, I think. Does anyone know what those lines are, whether they're normal and what I could do about them?

Mac Pro :: Benchmark Tests Meaning?
Mar 16, 2008I have a few questions:
When sites do various benchmark tests, they typically use something like 3DMark, and I think Cinebench CPU, etc.
First, I probably got those benchmark apps wrong...which ones do tech sites typically use?
Also, what exactly do these benchmarks exam.
Say I have a rendering application that is processor heavy...what benchmark should I be looking at?
Say I have another application for modeling, and I know it is graphics intensive. What benchmark should I be looking at?
And, to round things out, if I have an application that I know is memory heavy, what stats should I look at.
The reason I'm asking, is when upgrading my computer (at this point RAM), or considering a new MacPro, I want to know I'm buying for the right reasons.
I don't want to buy a powerful computer to find out that its max potential is not fully realized as it relies on something else. Granted I understand a new comp all around will perform better. However, applications such as Maxwell render does not hold back, it will use every processor available (8-cores would be amazing!), but others don't rely on processor, but memory more so.
Even then, I'm not sure all the time how the application performs. With as many apps as I use for different things (Rhino NURBS modeling [XP], Maxwell Render, VIZ/3DS Max, SketchUp, Adobe CS3, CAD) I can't always tell what part of the comp they use.

How much DATA do you have Oo-line?
This is data and not total capacity. This includes all your on-line data: music, images, video, the OS, all of it. It doesn't include back-up data even if it's on-line like Time Machine tho. Just active data.
And of the on-line storage devices used for that DATA totally, what % are they filled to?
For example if you had two 500 GB drives and about 400 GB of data you would answer:
"I have < 500 GB of DATA on-line." and,"My on-line storage is between 25% and 50% full.".

Jan 7, 2010i'm having some issues recording in garage band which should hopefully be easy to clear up. i record an instrumental track into garage band through the line-in jack in the back. the track shows up in garage band just fine and plays, but i'm running into trouble recording while that track is playing. i plug my headphones in so i can try to hear the track while i am recording vocals, but i am unable to hear the track. i checked the inputs/outputs in system preferences and output is set to headphones, microphone is set to line in. so i'm not too sure what it could be.
