Every time I sign into my Macbook, I get an error message from Automator; "The data couldn't be read because it has been corrupted.". I have never created an Automator workflow. How do I find out what Automator is trying to run and stop it?
How can I send a series of photos as jpeg attachments so they are displayed as individual jpeg filenames, just as with "doc" files? Some recipients have trouble in isolating individual photos when my Mac only sends them as pictures.
is there a alternative app for viewing pictures besides preview? am i missing something? im new to osx and cant figure out why i cant cycle through pictures. instead having to open each one independently. the same sort of situation when navigating through finder windows. any advice? is this just the way it is?
When I right click to save a picture online, it doesn't give me the opportunity to save something as a JPEG. I instead have to save it as a preview and then export it to JPEG. This seems like something relatively new.
I am having problems with Preview and Snow Leopard. I can use Quick View to view jpeg files, but when I open them with preview. It does not display the correct image. It just displays a gray block. The only way to resolves this is to delete the preview prefernce files, and then it works. But after a couple of restarts it goes back to not displaying the correct image.
I have recently had a problem with one of our servers (running OsX 10.4.8 Server). Normally I connect remotely via Chicken of the VNC, as it doesn't have a graphics card and is in another room. Connecting works fine and the display is perfect (see [URL] until that is, I try to log in. Once logged in (doesn't matter as what user, even tried a completely new one) the display instantly becomes illegible, with each row seemingly shifted 10 or so pixels to the right as you go down the display (see [URL] All directory, file and web services function correctly and the remote VNC connection is responsive (for example if you can guess where the logout button is, it will return to the perfectly displayed login screen...), but I am at a loss as to what is causing this and/or how to fix it, short of a clean install, but since it is a heavily used production server, I am loath to take it offline for that long. Any advice, tips or even solutions would be fantastic, I have been googling around for a week or so and comparing System and Library directories file by file with one of our other servers to see if there's something obvious, but to no avail.
Why do some images not display a little thumbnail in finder when viewing in a list format, but they do in all other viewing modes?
And some images will have a thumbnail, and then when I rename the file to organize my folders, etc, the thumbnail disappears, sometimes from Cover-flow ode also. Which I also don't understand.
Similarly with videos, why do some videos not display a thumbnail/screen-cap in any view mode, when other videos, which as the same file type do?
Finally this is only a recent problem for me, but more serious than the aforementioned issues. I've had some images/files, that show an in correct thumbnail/cover-flow image. It shows one thing, but when you open it, it's actually a different picture. Mostly it happens when I rename an image, but its also happened just normally.
Is there a specific cause that I can fix, or is it just one of those things where you run the maintenance scripts, turn you computer off and let/hope it fixes itself?
I am having problems viewing many PDF files (not all) which display a completely black document, always condensed to one page. I'm suspicious of recent Adobe changes, but have no handle on how to proceed.
For the past few months, I've tried to restore my iPod Classic because it randomly restarts itself, not to mention moving on the following song during the middle of a song that is already playing. However, it seems iTunes won't restore it. The following message appears every time I try to do this:
The link takes me here:
[URL]
But that website simply doesn't help me out. I've taken my iMac to a Genius and he basically said that something is corrupted in OS X. I should mention the fact that programs such as Onyx and Maintenance claim that I am not the admin when in fact, my account is the only account on the computer. The funny thing was that I created a new account and restored the iPod through there, it would work just fine.
So, besides that long explanation of my problem, is there anyway I can fix this without having to resort to placing all my files on an external and installing a clean copy of OS X? Would archiving and installing back to Leopard do the trick?
My PDF displays properly in Windows and Mac, but after optimizing it with Acrobat 8 Pro on Windows, it looks corrupted in Mac Preview. Funny thing is, this same PDF loads correctly in Acrobat on Mac. Each line of text jumbles on top of each other based on justification.
i have a windows machine at work running VNC and i want to connect to it with my MAC. is there a VNC client i can use? as the VNC client that the windows machine isnt on mac. i can change the VNC clint on the windows Machine if needed just woundering is there a VNC Cleint that will work for viewing windows and mac machines?
When I open a new folder and the same again, it shows 2 different folders in 2 different windows. Id like to see only 1 folder, previous folder would be replaced with the new folder. Im awared that there is an option to choose either you want the folder to be replaced or to show all folders in a new window. That setting isn't working for me for some reason. Anyone here with similar problem? What's the solution?
When i open iphoto, my pictures don't display. You click on the "events" or "photos" and the picture isn't there, only a square dotted box appears. The title of the file is still there, and the photo info is still there, but no pictures. This problem occured shortly after i tried to export my photos onto a 2 gb zip drive. There were to many pictures and it wouldn't fit onto the zip drive. What happened was the pictures i had on the zip drive appear in i photo now and that is all that displays.
I was wondering if any one had an idea of what the value of a Mac Performa 6115 might be. It was one of my first computers, paid over $3,000 back when it was purchased, but I know its not worth much now. Thinking about putting on Craigs List. Anyone have an idea of what I should sell it for?
I recently found our old Performa 575 Macintosh computer in our basement. It was from my childhood and none of us have touched it in a number of years.
The problem is we all have passwords for all the accounts, but none of us remember them. (it is at ease 2.0)
Does anyone know how to reset the password? Or any other ideas how I can get into the computer?
I can't see other people's display pictures using MSN messenger on my MBP... I've enabled all the options for this, is it a known issue, and is there a fix for it? I've tried other messenger applications, and I don't really like them.
Before I get shot, I've searched and found nothing on this topic. If you feel like being the person who tells me to use search, feel free to do it yourself and tell me exactly what to search for to find my answer...
For some peculiar reason, my desktop pictures do NOT change / rotate on my secondary display.
I have a MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2007) running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I have dual displays. My primary display (the MBP screen) DOES change / rotate picture every minute, but I want my secondary display to do the same.
It seems that restarting does fix it, but only temporarily. I think it might have to do with plugging/unplugging the secondary display and sometimes if it's working, I disconnect and reconnect the monitor and then the pictures stop rotating.
All my desktop picture settings are correct in System Preferences. I tried unchecking then rechecking the "Change picture:" checkmark, but that doesn't fix anything.
I also tried clicking on different folders in the left column of the Pref Pane, then clicking back on my chosen desktop pictures folder.
My friend found an old Performa 6300 from 1995. It's fully working aside from the missing ADB mouse. I've been searching for an ADB to USB adapter or even an USB card but to no avail.
I was wondering if a new Intel Mac Mini could use a Performa monitor as its screen? Would it look just as good as a newer monitor? If not, where can I find a cheap monitor?
My wife has an old Performa 6300CD she is about to replace with a new Mac (model TBD). However, I use an IBM ThinkPad and need to transfer some old files from her Performa before she gets rid of it.
Aside from the challenge of translating Mac-formatted files and documents to IBM format, the bigger problem appears to be that the Performa seems to be dying. It never had the ability to write CDs and actually stopped writing floppies some time ago. There is no USB port. It claims to have inadequate memory to e-mail the files over, but in fact there is enough space and won't allow me to increase memory to e-mail (AOL).
Is there any way to transfer/transmit files and documents from the old Performa to my ThinkPad before it's too late?
dont know if this is the right thread but, i picked up a Performa 5200CD, from the dump, and its in perfect condition, but when you go to turn the power on, it does nothing, could this have a dead power suply, broken switch?
I have an old Performa 6400/180, which has been working fine up until a few days ago. Then one day I booted the machine up and was greeted by the following "bomb" message:
"Sorry, a system error occurred.
bus error To temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold down the shift key."
I have followed these instructions, but it only gets to the "Starting Up. . ." screen and hangs while searching for extensions.
I can't find the documentation that has the OS version, but the machine was bought with whatever was current in early 1996 and has not been updated since.
I have a Mac Air running Mavericks on a HFS partition and Windows 7 on a BOOTCAMP NTFS partition. I have some files that I want to read/write from/to both systems. Since OS X can't write NTFS and Windows can't write HFS either, and I don't want to use any 3rd-party tools/drivers, in OS X, I copy those files from NTFS to its HFS partition, make changes, then switch to Windows and sync them back to NTFS.
The problem is, after I copied a file from NTFS to HFS in OS X, it seemed ok. But when I switched to Windows, the very copied file in HFS partition had its size changed (bigger) although I didn't make any changes to it in OS X yet. This happens to almost every file I copied, text and binary. For those text files, I tried to open it with EditPlus in Windows and EditPlus reports the correct size on the status bar.
I've got a 2.4 GHz unibody MacBook running boot camp, and I'd like to have my new 24" LED Cinema Display set as the primary display so that, when I play games, the system recognizes that the resolution can, indeed, go higher than 1280x800.
However, when I right click and hit Properties to see desktop settings and stuff, right clicking on the Cinema Display shows that "Primary" is grayed out; it seems that I can not set it as the primary display.
Does anybody have a solution to this? I'd rather not use the nVIDIA settings to turn off the MB display and only use the LED display, as I'd like to be able to have AIM and a web browser open on the MB screen while I game on the LED display. I suppose if this is not possible under Dual View atm, I'll make do, but I figured I'd check first.
