I have set up a USB disk on my airport extreme.
I can access this disk from both mac and windows (via airdisk utility).
My problem is when the disk is connected to windows XP and written to, the disk becomes unavailable on my mac.
When rebooting my mac, the disk now pops up as a PC server. I can�t connect to it.
When rebooting the airport, I can access the disk again.
I am attempting to connect my Dell AIO Photo 926 printer to my wireless network (WPA2). I use an old Apple AirPort Extreme (hereinafter "AAE") as my router (it's the old "dome shaped" one). I believe that heoretically I could plug the printer into the USB port on the back of the AAE and any computer connected to that network can print to the Dell printer. I have installed the drivers for the Dell AIO Printer and it prints fine when connected to my laptop (Windows 7). However, I am having NO luck doing this when I go to Control Panel and run the "add a printer wizard." Is there anyone who might be able to point me in the right direction to a tutorial or something? Is what I'm trying to do even possible with an AAE and an "older" Dell printer?

What I would like to do is plug the external hard drive into the PC, and share it over the network so that I can access it wirelessly from my macbook. The problem is that windows does not recognise the drive, so I cannot share it. Any mac-drive-formatted reading programs only read the drive from within the program, so I still can't share it.
View 3 Replies View Relatedso i have a windows XP professional disk, SP2 and all. i am trying to install windows, i get as far as partitioning the disk, but once it says "please insert XP disk" i do that, and it will think for a few minutes, and make a loud noise [coming from the mac] then a message pops up and says 'please insert installation disk.' the disk is brand new, what am i doing wrong? should i be partitioning the windows side larger?

I've been following a tutorial that lets me share a library between OSX & Windows... apparently you need to create the library in OSX first, then add the .itl extension to the library file. Shift-clicking iTunes in OSX lets you select this 'new' library with the result that a new database (iTunes Library.itl.xml) is created.

I bought an Airport Extreme and installed per instructions on the Mac partition. The Extreme replaces an Express as the base unit, the express now extends the range of the network (and is now connected to my stereo system). So, the "new" network that was set up has the exact same name as the old one when it was just the Express.
Everything works fine on the mac side. When I go to my Win XP side (Boot camp) it sees the network but says it cannot connect. To put is simply, I can't remeber what I need to do. I haven't had to mess with this stuff since I set it up almost 2 years ago. Do I need to set up a new network?... I am just drawing a blank. Is keeping the same name for the "new" network part of my problem?
I have a macpro with OSX on one drive and windows 7 on a partition of another drive. Both systems work fine and I boot into windows by holding the option key down. What is odd is if I go to the system preferences startup disk my windows install does not show up. I did move my windows partition a while ago to a new drive. I used bootcamp to create the partition and winclone to move the data. It's not a big deal not having the option in the preference pain but would be nice. If I am in windows and go to the bootcamp control panel both OS X and Windows are there.

I have heard, I will encounter following issues:
- battery will drain faster
- graphics driver for x64-bit version
- camera
- iPhone backups and syncs (music, video, cal, contacts and apps)
- I would need a external mouse for right click.
I can live with all of the above problems except graphics card drivers. Can anyone provide feedback or useful links they have refered to installing Windows 7?
Is it possible to install Windows 7 on an internal disk via Boot Camp and then remove this disk and use it as an external drive? I have two drives for my mini, one in use and one in an external case; unfortunately, neither have room for everything plus Windows. If the answer to this question is no, then I'll buy a bigger drive. I'd just like to avoid this if possible (I already have a ton of external drives and not enough ports to plug them into).

I have installed a partition using BootCamp of 45GB but once it prompts me to insert the Windows disk, I insert it but after a few seconds the machine ejects the disk without ever mounting or seemingly recognizing the disk.
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from a disk.
Can anyone offer any insight or help me figure out what the problem is? I have already tried rebooting and that doesn't work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Stardom Decktank filled with two WD 1.5tb drives formatted as concatenated (JBOD). Raid version is AppleRaid 2.0.
I chose to format the disks as ntfs the first time but when I had to defragment the disks waaaaaay to often to get full speed with torrents and usenet I figured HFS+ would work better.
The only problem is now that I can't get the JBOD disk to work in Windows 7 via Boot Camp. Is there any drivers i need to install to get it to work? I have googled but found nothing.
I have seen other posts and I'm concerned that I didn't have all the info that I need. I would like to install Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit on my IMac at home using VirtualBox. VirtualBox is like Parallels or VMware and is free. Where is the best place to get a Windows Server install disk and is there anything that I should look out for when installing it on my IMac?

While he is trying to verify that his code is correct, can't get the windows vista disk out of his machine. What he has told me is when the windows instilation asked for the correct instal code he gets the option to input the correct code or restart the computer. in an attempt to abort the instalation he chose restart. Instead of being able to get to the osx desktop, he is thrown right back to windows loading the instilation files where it prompts for the password. because I too am a new windows convert, I don't know how to help him get his imac to boot back to osx so he can drag the disk image icon to the trash to get the disk out of his machine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs I'm using pbg4, I'm not able to burn dvds. Therefore, I've decided to use my windows based dvd burner, which is on a separate PC. The os is windows 7; I've shared the dvd, as well as few partitions and folders and they show and work just fine under my mac os x 10.4.11, however, my mac doesn't see the dvd. I recently installed an update concerning dvd sharing, that basically added one additional service to my share preferences, but it didn't make any difference. Any ideas how to use my win dvd? And I have another similar question: as I mentioned, I have few shared items located at the same pc windows machine; the thing is that when the powerbook comes back from sleep, everything is unmounted, and I have to manually authenticate and mount every single resource I require, which is killing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have 2 computers over here, one uses Windows Vista, the other is an iMac with OS X Snow Leopard. They're both connected to a hub, said hub is connected to the modem. The Windows machine has 2 printers connected to it, an HP DeskJet and an Epson Stylus.
Now, I would like to access one of those 2 printers from within OS X, so I can actually print without moving files between both computers through an USB stick or whatever. I've put both printers in Windows Vista on "Shared", but I can't seem to find them anywhere in OS X. So I guess I'm doing something massively wrong.
Below is a chart of how this "network" looks like.
So, is it possible like this to get access to the printers on the Vista machine from within OS X? If so, how do I properly set it up?
I have a USB drive with a 5.25" HD in it hooked up to my mini running SL. On the USB drive, I have a file shared in the File Sharing section of System Preferences. The only option I have enabled is "Share files and folders using SMB." The machine trying to access the files is Windoze 7. After I enable file sharing on the mini, the PC can see it. But if I go for a long time, lets say overnight, if I try to access the files when I turn the PC on, it can not see the folder on the USB drive. But if I go to the mini, turn File Sharing off and immediately turn it on, the PC can see the shared folder. At first I thought it was maybe the harddrive being idled down, but it is not as I tested that theory. So what can I do to make sure the PC can see the shared folder all the time without me having to go into System Preferences all the time to turn it off/on for this to work?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a machine in a workgroup called 21. the machine name is icey.i have a domain called avery. i am able to access files on the domain from icey but when i try to connect to a printer it says i dont have sufficient access. the printer in question is a resource on a machine called marble. and the printer itself is called new_printer and yes its being shared. actually i cannot connect to any printers on the domain from icey.
everyone on the domain can access the all printers however no one from 21 can connect to it. it was necessary for me to build 21 but it is still important for 21 to be able to use avery resources. is there any way i can get this to connect?

View 20 Replies View RelatedI recently updated my Macbook to leopard and for the most part everything is working Ok. However I have to share files with a network with windows computers. I never had a problem with Tiger, My Home folder would be shared and as long as you typed in the password access to it was fine. What I liked was my Home folder was the only folder you could access.
Now with Leopard, my home folder is shared, however so is my whole HDD, even if i had a usb drive plugged in at the time, that is shared too. Can I change this to so only my home folder is shared, like it was with Tiger. I have tried playing with the firewall and other sharing setting but cannot work it out.

I've just set up an old PPC mac mini as a basic server in my home (Basically at the moment it's just a printer server). I, however, also have a scanner that I would like to make network accessible.
Now, I know it's possible to share a scanner over a network with image capture on OS X, but how can I make this scanner accessible in Windows? Does anyone know any software that I can install for this?
Got my first mac today, and I realised that I could hook my old comp up to my iMac to speed up the file transfer process. Being completely clueless about macs, I found and followed this tut: [URL:...] which seems to work. However when I try to access the computer it just takes ages then times out. Firewall is off on both the PC and the mac, antivirus is off on the PC.

I tryed to install windows xp on my mac and my disk was too scratched so the install failed. So i held down the power button on my mac until it turned off. Big mistake. Now whenever it boot up, it says press any button to boot from cd. I tryed installing rEFit, it installs but doesn'ty boot into the boot loader.
