Just installed windows 7 on my imac, the only problem is that at the lowest brightness (set via keyboard and boot camp utility) the screen is too far bright!! Is there a way to low brightness via software?
View 4 RepliesI currently have a MacBook Pro and I am trying to put Windows OS on it using the Boot Camp option. I can download Windows 7 using my university's website, but all instructions for installing Windows using Boot Camp require using a CD. Is it possible to do it with it downloaded on the desktop, or do I need to put it on a CD/DVD somehow and then use that? I'm not sure if I can put it on a CD (with the stipulations of the University share program).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded Windows 7 (64-bit) from my school's software hub and burned it to a bootable disc. I partitioned my drive, and was able to boot from the installation CD. Now, for some reason, my copy of Windows 7 must be different from EVERYBODY else's, because when I start, it asks for the language, and then I click begin install. Here's where the problem comes. I immediately get a dialogue box that says I am missing a required device driver in order to continue the installation. Please insert the CD, USB, etc. with the required drivers. (Of course, it doesn't tell me what they are.) Now, here is where I would put in my Snow Leopard disk, if it weren't for the fact that the disk refuses to eject. So, I can't even begin the installation at all. Is there somewhere I can go on the disk to find these drivers and put them on a USB flash drive? Or any other work around for this?

I heard about people having issues with screens going blank, so I went ahead and followed Apple's instructions on the matter. I put the files they said on an SD card and started into the Windows installer. But after about two screens, it says, "Windows could not display the images available for installation." Then my computer restarts.

I created a 40gb partition successfully, but I only have A DVD of Windows 7 Upgrade. I have an ISO (legally obtained) of the full version. When I try to install from the upgrade disc with custom installation, not upgrade, I get to "Expanding Windows Files" and then it hangs at 0% forever. I have a 320gb external hard drive. I have already restored my computer with Time Machine today. Still, no luck.

As soon as I set it down I got an error message saying files were corrupt? (I was fairly gentle). (I haven't tried again yet as my macbook is only a day old and I want to mess around with it).

However I want to install a newer release and I am not sure what way it should be done. Can I simply run the set up in my current windows 7 installation and install the new release this way? or would I have to format the bootcamp partition and go through the bootcamp assistant again?
View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently, I was installing Windows 7 on my Bootcamp partition, and the installation was going fine, but I ran out of energy so the installation was interrupted. I boot my Mac OS, opened Bootcamp and erased the partition just to create it again and install Windows once again. However, when I loaded the installation from my DVD, I got an error message saying that a CD/DVD driver was missing, and it found no hard drives even after rescanning my computer. When I chose browse, I was surprised when I saw not 2, but 3 partitions, one with my MAC OS, the new Bootcamp partition, and a drive called X: that was created when the past install got interrupted.
I've tried erasing the partition in bootcamp over and over, but I can't erase it, even though Mac OS tells me my drive now consists of a single volume. Do I need to format my whole drive? Do I need to install OSX? Will I lose all my applications and data? In case you need it, here's some info:

After windows is installed a Blue screen appears with cursor on screen but it freezes completely.I can fix this by restarting my mac , then once windows restarts i insert the Mac OS disc , select the disc within my computer but the following message appears "Package requires new version of installer"
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my Mac mini (bought in April 2009). When I use VirtualBox on Mac OS X, I have absolutely no problem installing Windows 7 64-bit in a new virtual machine. However, I want to run it Windows 7 natively on my Mac mini. So when I insert the Windows 7 DVD and reboot my Mac, holding the C key down so as to boot from DVD, then it does seem to be reading the DVD, but all I get is a light gray screen. I then hit the Return key, and it does seem to do even more. Still the screen stays entirely gray.
I have the impression that it behaves like it does with VirtualBox, except the screen stays gray all the time. When I use VirtualBox, the first thing that happens is that it prints "Hit any key to boot from CD or DVD" (or something like that). When I do hit a key (e.g. Return), then it continues printing "Setup is loading" (or similar) and loads more stuff from the DVD for about 90 seconds. So it really seems to be that it does just that when using it natively (without VirtualBox), just the screen stays gray.
I am keep getting below message. I do have Bonjour in my system and I am the only user on my laptop and I am the administrator. What am I supposed to do?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 1st generation macbook pro running snow leopard 10.6. I've been trying to install windows xp, vista, or 7 using bootcamp but for some odd reason i cannot boot into the cd. I put the cd in and made sure the macbook is reading it (which it is because the icon shows up on the desktop) before i hit "start installation". the laptop would restart but it doesnt boot into the cd, it just goes right into the gray screen and stays there while i hear the cd spinning. I've installed windows xp using this method but that was about 4 years ago, for some reason the hard drive died on me so i have to do this whole process over again. I dont recall having this problem either.

I have done the following:
1. Did a clean installation of OS X Snow Leopard on hard drive (Not yet partitioned the hard drive)
2. Installed rEFIt
I am not sure what the poster means by making sure it works by pressing the option button. I am assuming it means that I will be able to see the options I can choose when I press option? (I do see options to pick either "Hard Drive" or whatever disc in the DVD)
3. Partitioned 30 GB (or was it 40 GB? x.x I forgot sorry) space in Boot Camp Assistant for Windows installation. Chose the option to install Windows later.
4. Inserted OS X Snow Leopard installation disc and boot from there.
5. Opened up the Disk Utility and partitioned a hard drive (called Hard Drive_2) via the Partition section as instructed by the guide. Formatted in MAc OS Extended (Journaled)
So now, in that area I see "Hard Drive", "Hard Drive_2" and "BOOT CAMP" (so I am assuming that is what the poster meant by "3 partitions".
6. Restarted the computer with Windows installation disc.
Problems occur right here:
Problem 1: I do not see anything called "C something" as the poster said. But I do see something called "Boot Camp"
Problem 2: All the partitions that are available says that "Windows 7 can't be installed". So my question is am I supposed to "delete" a specific partition to install it?
I have pictures of the screen which I will upload later if this isn't clear enough.
I got an iMac 27inches and I tried to install win7 by bootcamp. So everything goes smooth until it ends the installation. When it resets to start windows its just continue in that cicle. So I turn on my mac, it goes to te windows7 promp "Windows Error Recovery" and when I select one of the options "Safe Mode" - "Start Windows normally" it just resets again. And the worst part is that I can't even boot from CD or from my HD. I tried all the key combination and nothing.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI've had bright spots appear behind my LCD screen for the second time this last month.
They look like the LEDS from the backlight are pushed up too close to the LCD and sort of washout the LCD in that area. The have occurred on the left side and the right sides along the lower edges of the screen.
I'm fed up with all the repairs this laptop has needed and feeling that I paid 2000 dollars for a quality product I went to the apple store today and asked for a replacement unit.
I was told that the recurring bright spots (on top of 3 other minor repairs and 1 major repair) did not warrant a replacement unit. The manager even said that they shouldn't have fixed this problem last time because it is cosmetic and not covered by the warranty. The genius also repeated the phase "This doesn't happen by itself" (I nice way to say I did this and that they shouldn't cover it. )
The manager decided to make me feel special and say something along the lines "We'll fix it again this time because we did last time".
My warranty is running out in 6 months and I need to know what's causing this. I always transport my laptop in an incase sleeve with a shoulder strap. There have never been any external marks on my casing when these dots appear. If I put too much pressure on the screen wouldn't the middle bend in more and I would get problems there? There weren't even marks on the screen from the keyboard keys yet I put enough pressure on it to cause this without even knowing it?
The best part is I asked the man who gave me my repaired laptop back how to prevent what the manager called 'LCD bruising'. When I mentioned bright spots he said 'Oh that's a defect we cover under warranty'.
Im going to contact apple's customer relations on monday regarding the repeated repair trips. I have no confidence this laptop can go a long period of time without needing repairs.
It's not the keyboard sticking.

Why does my screen look dull? It's not dull like when you stop charging it, nor is it as bright as when it is charging, it's about in between. I have it plugged in and the battery constantly reads 95% never 100%. The little green dot is on the charger input and the battery symbol shows that it is being charged so I know it's charging. What reason would be why my screen is not as bright as before?

I bought a MBP last weekend, and noticed in the last few days a few bright "spots" on the screen in the top left hand area of the screen. It's like the complete opposite of a dead pixel - it's just bright and whitish. It's almost like a speck of glitter on the screen! It's only visable from certain angles, but is one of those annoying little things!

Even after turning down brightness in BootCamp control panel all the way down, I still feel like I'm staring at the sun. Screen is still way too bright. No such issue in OS X. Is there any Windows app (similar to Shades) that allows further brightness reduction? With brightness as is, Bootcamp is pretty much unusable to me.

Unfortunately the display doesn't show very light colors. (compared to my old MBP15 2007) If you look at the attached image [URL]
- at section 5 I can only see the Grey boxes from 235 to 247, and I CAN'T see any Grey box from 249 to 253.
- at section 3 I can't see the Grey box at 5 all the other from 10 to 50 are fine.
Changing the brightness, playing around with different color profiles and resetting the system didn't solve this problem. I called Apple support and after some resets I was asked to compare my screen with the same make/year. Does anybody has the same 2010 MBP15 high-res anti-glare display and experiencing the same issue? Does your display work fine and is showing all the different Grey boxes?Other MBP owners: Can you see all Grey boxes on your MBP screen? My brothers 2009 MBP15 is showing all light Grey boxes from 235 to 251. 253 can't be seen
My IMac screen keeps changing brightness as I use it, currently the LHS of the screen is not as bright as the right.
Does this sound like an adjustment or a fault? The sytem is about 6 months old from new.
