MacBook Pro :: Using BSOD On Bootcamp On MBP?

Sep 3, 2009

Has anyone ever had something like this happen? I have a 13" unibody MBP, and I installed XP on bootcamp. I installed civilization IV on XP and played it for a while. Booted back into OSX and used that for a while. Then I went back to XP and now everytime I try to start civilization IV I get a BSOD memory error on XP and it crashes. I'm going to go ahead and install Vista instead and hopefully I'll still be able to run Civ4 fine and not have it crash hard everytime I try to run it after booting between OSX and Vista.

Anyone ever have something like this happen before? I find it strange that it didn't start crashing until I booted into OSX then back to XP.

Windows On Mac :: 7 Bootcamp Shutdown - BSOD?

Aug 19, 2010

I have a 13" 2.4GHz mid-2010 MBP, with a legit version of Windows 7 installed. Sometimes I virtualize using VMWare, but usually I boot right into it when I use it to play games.

It's all been going well, until I would sometimes just shut the lid while I'm on Windows 7 bootcamp. When I open the lid, the computer is shut down, and I have the option of booting into OS X or Windows. If I choose Windows, it's as if it went to sleep (which should be happening as I'm closing the lid instead of shutting down).

Windows On Mac :: Bootcamp And Windows Xp (bsod At Boot Up)?

Dec 22, 2010

Naturally I had to restart my mac a few times, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary; everything performed as expected. Even played some counterstrike in windows before I rebooted back into osx.

A few hours later I tried booting back into windows, and it says there was an error and gives me the usual boot options (safe, last known working config etc etc). After I select one it begins to work, but after 5-10 seconds I get a bluescreen that lasts for a split second before rebooting. /repeat.

Windows On Mac :: Have Gotten A Few BSOD While Playing DotA?

Feb 23, 2009

I have recently bought a new macbook pro early 2008 and have installed bootcamp on it to play games.

I have noticed that with the stock nvidia drivers that came with the bootcamp cd, I was able to set my screen brightness at a pre-determined level once and for all without adjustment.

However, with that stock drivers, I have gotten a few BSOD while playing DotA, so I have updated my drivers to the latest nvidia beta laptop drivers, that made the brightness issue pop up.

Now whenever I switch on my mbp, I would have to go and set the brightness of my screen to my desired level EVERY SINGLE TIME, if not it would be turned back to maximum contrast every time I opened a single window. Now this pisses me off a lot as I game a lot.

Any of you guys have the solution to my problem?

I would greatly appreciate all of your inputs!

Windows On Mac :: New Computer BSOD (Restoring From Winclone)

Oct 2, 2009

So I had a Macbook with Windows 7 partition (RTM from MSDNAA since I need it for Visual Studio 2008) and I created a backup with Winclone. I got a new MBP 13" and so tried to install the partition from Winclone.. It says that it was restored successfully but when I start up my computer I get BSOD and my computer keeps restarting. (Think its due to hardware change?) I cannot even repair it with the windows 7 cd.

Windows On Mac :: Fusion 3.1.1 BSOD "Bad Image Checksum" Error And Reboot Loop?

Aug 16, 2010

My parents are having the exact problem described in this thread (and I've been tasked with remote tech support): [URL] Upon startup, WinXP gives them a BSOD reboot loop while indicating that a DLL file is possibly corrupt. Booting in Safe Mode won't work, and reverting to an earlier snapshot merely delays the problem by 24 hours or so.

The obvious and ideal solution would be to boot into Repair mode from the install disc and copy the clean DLL to replace the damaged copy. The problem is that, according to the thread, I'll need to first get Fusion to accept a floppy image of SCSI adapter drivers for me to even be able to enter Repair mode. The link for that image was broken in the thread, but a little Googling directed me here: [URL]

MacBook Air :: Migrating Bootcamp Image / Blackbook Bootcamp Partition Having Windows

Jan 30, 2009

Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.

Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

IMac :: Resizing Bootcamp Partition - Backing Up Bootcamp Image?

Apr 16, 2010

im on a goal to resize my bootcamp partition... im running 10.6.4 with Win7 in Bootcamp... i made a mistake of only making a 80GB partition for windows 7.... now i want to make it bigger, i have read up on a number of methods but most are outdated and users report issues with windows 7 and SL so i'm a lil stuck... this is my idea

I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?

Software :: OEM And Bootcamp Format The Partition That Bootcamp Created

May 3, 2009

Bought an OEM version to use with bootcamp. Everything works fine up to the point where it is supposed to let me format the partition that bootcamp created. The XP installation just skips right from when I select the C:yatta-yatta/bootcamp partition and starts installing. So obviously the partition is not bootable... Does anyone know if this is because the OEM version of the OS or something else. I tried to reduce the size of the partition because I read a thread about FAT32 not playing well with disc sizes greater than 32Gb. Still didn't work...

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Fails To Make BootCamp Partition

Jan 23, 2009

I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.

I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."

So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?

Windows On Mac :: How To Upgrade Existing Bootcamp 2.1 To Bootcamp 3.0

Aug 28, 2009

Maybe I'm just over thinking this, but Apple never posted a KB article about how to upgrade an existing bootcamp partition with the new snow leopard bootcamp 3.0 drivers. I'm assuming if you already have bootcamp 2.1 you boot up in boot camp and then insert the snow leopard disc in order to upgrade the drivers to 3.0 correct? Or do I have to erase my stupid bootcamp partition and reinstall it all over again using the new leopard boot camp assistant in order to get to 3.0?

MacBook Air :: Using Bootcamp With SP2?

May 14, 2008

So I've installed XP on my Macbook air, and I need to install the drivers from the leopard CD, however when I try to I get an error that windows update is a missing resource. I think this must be because my XP cd does not have SP2. I have SP2 on another CD, so I put that in to install it. But I get an error that I need 4 more megabytes of room to install it. I'm not sure what that issue is, as I allocated 5 gigs to the partition and there are 2 gigs available after the XP install. At this point I seem stuck. I can't install the XP drivers as I don't have SP2, and I can't install SP2 as I don't have 4 megs of space although there is 2 gigs available. I tried to search the forum to see if anyone else has seen this issue.

MacBook Pro :: MBP Bootcamp RAM?

May 1, 2010

I am running Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) through boot camp. The problem is that it recognizes all 4gb of ram I have installed, but only says 2.725-2.75gb is usable. Through Windows 7 I only have the option of using the discrete nVidia 9600m GT graphics card, so the integrated graphics card not being used couldn't (or at least shouldn't) be using memory, and even so I believe it shouldn't use more than 256mb. Also, I checked and W7 32bit is able to recognize up to 4gb of memory. Finally, the missing 1.25gb is not being used by system memory, so I am completely at a loss as to why it is being recognized but not used.

I'm not sure if it matters, but I am using the 2x2gb ram sticks that came stock with the laptop.

Trying to figure out what config 11.6 I should get. I'll be mostly running Office apps in Windows 7. The apple store guy says 2gb will be sufficient. He also said the base CPU is fine for my purpose. So the only upgrade I would go with is the SSD. Is that reasonable? I've read some conflicting posts - "windows is a memory hog" to "windows 7 runs fine on 1gb netbooks".

MacBook :: Won't Start Up After Trying To Use Bootcamp

May 17, 2009

i have the metal macbook (bought november 2008) and i wanted to install windows xp on it. I read my manual i got with my mac and used the boot camp installation thing. I managed to do the hardrive partition thing and it got to the stage after that where it said it was installing windows, so i followed the instructions and then once it restarted after that it kept going back to the 'install xp' screen. I restarted my macbook and took the disk out and when i started it up again it kept coming up with a message which 'no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key' . So figuring it was part the way through installing xp i inserted that disk again but when i pressed any key it didnt do anything so i restarted it again with the disk in and this time it came back up with the blue windows setup screen. I followed the installation instructions again making sure i picked all the options that the bootcamp instructions told me. Once it got to the restarting stage again it kept loading up with the windows setup screen again. I figured i would be going round in circles if i chose to install it again so i restarted my mac and took out the xp disk and put in my mac installation disk instead. Got all the way through the installation part until you have to 'select a destination' and its got nothing to select? just wondering what to do from here if possible id love to be able to save the files that were on my other bit of the partition (not the windows xp bit) but really i just need my macbook working!

MacBook Pro :: Set Up Parallels And Bootcamp?

Apr 21, 2010

I am merely hours away from making my first mac purchase! I have settled on the 15" 2.4 i5. This should be more than enough computing power for my needs in the next 3-4 years. However I was wondering if I will be able set up parallels 5 AND bootcamp and just choose when to use one or the other? If I am able to do this, would anyone recommend it?

My thinking is that, many of my windows programs are not very demanding(rosetta stone, ms office, etc...) and it would be more convenient to switch back and forth using parallels. Boot camp, from what I've read on a few previous threads, would be more suited for some casual gaming or more demanding tasks(engineering program/reservoir modeling program) on windows. So what do you recommend? Bootcamp, parallels, or both(if this works)? On a side note: is purchasing from Ebay with 8% cashback from bing the best deal going for the base 15"?
