Like if I had a .EXE file then instead of starting it up and running the desktop and all that stuff would I be able to just run the program that I needed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn Rapidshare, I've download a lot of files such as .rar files on my mac and everything has worked fine. Up until today, I downloaded a few and they are windows files because they have the parallels symbol (Yes I have parallels) but my parallels isn't running. So i went back and tried to download old files that I had previously been opened with Mac OSX and they too are opening as parallel files. I dont understand why all the files want me to download the windows version. The only thing that I changed was i finally upgraded my MacPar Deluxe because there was a new version but that's the only thing. So can someone please help me fix this problem. I dont want to download windows files while on my mac.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have MBP running 10.5.7 2.4 with 4 gigs of ram and I need to run Windows. I would like to run it stand alone to use all my available resources, as I will be running PS AE 3DsMax ect..., but the kicker is I would need access to my Mac files.
I read that "bootcamp" installs will not allow access to Mac files and folders while in PC and vise versa... true? Parallels will but then Im not taking advantage of all my hardware resources running windows this way... Do suggest run a "bootcamp" install and use a removable for storage of all files so I can go back and forth with them if need be? I have files on my mac right now I will need to open and have access to inside of Windows programs.
So the last couple of days iTunes has been hell for me. Couple of days ago, when I opened iTunes like any other time, I was presented with an error message saying my itunes library was damaged. Anyway, long story short, I've started over and created a new one and imported all my songs, podcasts, videos etc in. That all worked well, but I was still missing my precious play counts and ratings, though I was able to import my playlists. So what I did was import one of the itunes database files from the "previous itunes libraries" option. What happened then was that it removed all the files that I purchased after the date in which the database file was created. Annoying as I can't remember every song I've purchased.
The 2 main problems at the moment is that the files I purchased are already in my iTunes media folder, I found that out by just searching some songs I remember, but the matter of remembering each one is impossible. I contemplated the idea of "Add to library" but I think all that does is import everything again into the library rather than find any ones that aren't already in it. Is there anyway to get iTunes to automatically find the files that aren't already my library and just add those? Second problem is I have is the dreaded '!' next to many of my songs, again I am sure that I have these files in my media folder (I've checked), iTunes has just (for some reason) not found those files. Again, is there a way for iTunes to automatically find those files? As opposed to me finding and clicking on everyone of those '!'s and locating the files manually?
I just installed Parallels and am having trouble installing Windows XP. I get a message saying that it can find the ASMS file, even though I checked and its definitely on the installation cd.
I tried saving the cd on my desktop and manually typing in the location, but that doesnt work. Unless im typing the wrong location in?
So, I recently installed Parallels 5 on my MacBook and then I installed Windows 7 as a virual machine. For some reason, I cannot get Windows 7 to run in "aero" mode.
The MacBook I installed it on is a year or two old (it's a Black MacBook). It's got a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I believe the sceps are enough to support "aero" mode.
In the virtual machine configure menu. I've selected Processors = 1 and Mani Memory = 1200 MB (top of recommended).
When trying to adjust my settings in Windows 7, there is a message at the bottom of he personalization screen with a link to "Troubleshoot problems with transparency and other aero effects". When I click the link, it runs a test to detect problems. After the test is complete, it tells me that Desktop Window Manager is disabled.
I have Parallels 3 installed, mostly to run MS Money. Last night I installed Snow Leopard, unaware that Parallels 3 is not compatible. It appears that I need to go out and buy Parallels 4 as that will work with Snow Leopard.
My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.
Which do you prefer and why? I am going to be running one on the imac I am about to buy. I don't wanna fool with heavy burning on my MacBook, but I will get down to it on iMac. I have pretty much given up on finding a good decryption program for mac.. many headaches later I have decided to run something so I can use my windows programs to back up my dvd's.
When I put windows on mac, in theory I open it up to the same crap windows has viruses/spy-adware etc. What do you use to keep your mac safe and sound when running windows?
Anyone tried to boot the Windows 7 XP Mode withi Parallels or VM Ware Fusion? Would be interesting to know if that works?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm very new to macs and I've been able to purchase most of the applications I need to use in mac formats (quickbooks, office etc.) but there are some things that still need windows like all of the software for my Garmin units as well as some marine navigation software. My question is rather then having to purchase more software, and give more money to MS, can I use a copy of windows that came with one of my old dell or vaio laptops to run windows on parallels so I can run those few programs i need?

I'm ready to upgrade my MacBook 13" late 2006 model to a new 15 inch pro, and realize that, especially in the college environment where many professors demand windows, I should run it somehow. I've been doing extensive research for the last hour on the best way to run it, however I'm in a complete deadlock. Some people say just do boot camp, but I don't mind paying up to $100 extra if it will really be much smoother. Even when I try to compare the differences between VMware and Parallels (the latest versions of both), I don't see anything hugely significant. Plus, I see just as many complaints about both of them (I'm reading 1-star HORROR STORIES on amazon of each one), and really, really just want a smooth experience. So, my dear MacRumors friends, I come to you for advice. Which of the three programs do you recommend?

However, I have licenses for Creative Suite 4 for Windows and still need to run it on my Mac using Boot Camp and/or Parallels until I can afford to jump to CS5 for Mac (this MBP took a big chunk of my cash). I'd like to run Windows using Boot Camp AND Parallels - Boot Camp when I need all system resources and Parallels when I need to hop over to Windows to type a Word document or something quick (got Office 2007 for Windows too).
Can I use both Boot Camp and Parallels with one serial number for Windows 7? If so, how do I install? Would I install Windows on Boot Camp or Parallels first? If anyone has some guidance for installing one copy of Windows 7 on both applications
I have installed parallels 5 desktop onto my macbook pro and am trying to set it up to run win XP. All goes well untill it gets to the part of the windows installation that highlights "installing windows" the everything just stops, and stays stuck on "setup will take approximately: 36minutes" At the very bottom in the grey area it says: "Parallel tools are not installed, when I click to install these, nothing happens!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have on my hard drive a Leopard partition and a Windows 7 partition. I am looking to delete the Windows partition and then have the full hard drive as one Leopard partition, hopefully without any reformatting. Firstly when I installed the Windows partition I did so through bootcamp. I also have parallels 4.0 and so I was able to set up a virtual machine (VM) of this bootcamp partition. I want to now completely get rid of windows on my machine though I am not sure of the best way to do so. I guess working backwards is best: delete the parallels VM then delete the bootcamp partition? Is this the best way to do it? Will the deleted space on my hard drive be converted to space on my Leopard partition?
(I wish to get rid of windows because I am having problems with my mac sleeping. I just want to see if windows is the culprit. Hopefully it is as I have tried everything else including an SMC reset, short of reformatting and installing.) I have backups of everything btw.
I just recently purchased a 13" MBP Unibody and I'm thinking about installing Windows 7 (64-Bit) on it. If I install Windows with Boot Camp, and then install Parallels, do I need to make another Windows partition, or will it use the partition created in Boot Camp? after i get to the windows loading screen my mac just throws out a consistent high pitched sound and shows a black screen, i can only get into bootcamp windows when i unplug the computer and start it up with the running windows normally option. is this a virus?

I burned numerous dvd's with my old Toshiba laptop for all of my videos and such with Windows XP. Now after my Toshiba crapped out and I switched to a Mac I was wondering why when I put the DVD into the laptop (MacBook Pro Intel processor) why I can only see the name of the dvd and not the contents. I hope someone can help me since I hate having to boot up Windows in Parallels and then play using Windows or drag it to my mac partition since this takes time and I just really hate having to see Windows load on my Mac. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a Parallels 4 VM for a Windows 7 x64 Build 7000 boot camp partition, but parallels tools will not install. Half way through the process, a windows unsigned driver security box pops up, and when I tell it to install anyway, it still rolls back the installation process and I get the message "An error has occured while installing parallels tools, click OK to restart your computer and try again." or something to that effect. I have tried this about 15 times, and I have tried uninstalling/deleting the VM and re-creating the VM to no avail.
What I want to know: Is there a way to manually install Parallels Tools while running in the boot camp partition, just like installing any other application? I want to install it outside of Parallels, since for some reason it keeps screwing itself up when trying to set up the drivers as a VM.
I was able to get Windows Vista 64 running on my 17" MBP, it is pretty slick. I set aside 32 GB for Windows, ran the install, loaded all the appropriate Boot Camp drivers and everything is working perfectly in Windows. I boot back to OS X to attempt to configure Parallels...
So I fired up Parallels and follow the guided instructions. However, when I get to step 2 Im not sure what I should be doing. I already have Windows on its own partition, but Parallels is asking me for a CD/DVD image. Im a little leery of putting the Win disc back in, I dont want Parallels to always want to boot from the disc. how do I tell Parallels to load Windows as a Virtual Machine off of the Boot Camp partition?
The partition Boot Camp created now appears on my Desktop in OS X as Untitled, I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to change that. If I eject that volume will I still be able to Boot to Windows? Will Parallel still work?
I recently installed Windows vista using going through parallels because my bootcamp failed a while ago. This partition also acts as my bootcamp. Well The internet on parallels works fine because it is using osx network, but when i boot into bootcamp the network drivers seem to be missing. I cant figure it out, but it says the ethernet and network drivers are not there. I cant find the drivers on the internet anywhere and when i use the vista disk i have it still does not want to install them.

However, neither of these comes in the form of a CD image. They are both .exe files. Parellels asks for a CD or CD image. Is there a way to install windows 98 from an .exe in parallels?
And if so will I be able to use the windows xp upgrade once i have windows 98 installed? I haven't yet tried creating a CD image with the exe file on it. I don't know if this would work because it's all in one file and not a typical windows install disk.
