Ive installed Windows 7 on Parallels 5. Do I have to install ATI 4850 drivers to get aero working?

Jun 20, 2010I gather there've been more than a few headaches getting working video drivers for the ATI 4850 in the iMac (windows side). A few posts have said that version 8.661 of the AMD driver (Catalyst 9.10) works, but other versions including newer ones, don't.

Dec 5, 2010Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.

Apr 22, 2009I recently installed Windows vista using going through parallels because my bootcamp failed a while ago. This partition also acts as my bootcamp. Well The internet on parallels works fine because it is using osx network, but when i boot into bootcamp the network drivers seem to be missing. I cant figure it out, but it says the ethernet and network drivers are not there. I cant find the drivers on the internet anywhere and when i use the vista disk i have it still does not want to install them.

Sep 15, 2010Just installed Win 7 on MBP13 in bootcamp. I am going to install Parallels next and point the VM to bootcamp OS so I can choose. I'll likely run Parallels mostly, but may need to boot from bootcamp once in a while for native speed. If I install the aps in the bootcamp OS, can the VM in Parallels access them? Or do I have to install them again in the VM?

By example on windows I can see by shared folder my mac files like pictures, music, movies, sites, etc. So I think if I get a virus on windows that destroy files, the virus can be delete all my mac files? A little after installing parallels and giving my windows key, I decided I would rather do boot camp and "upgrade" the partition to run in parallels if i needed to. I started the boot camp installation but when it got to asking me for the Windows 7 key, it said the key was invalid now. Is there any way of getting the key back?

May 10, 2008I have just finished installing Vista Ultimate (64 bit) on my new Mac Pro, and the screen is really dark, and I can't seem to get it any brighter.
My graphics card is the Nvidia 8800gt, I am using an old 23" ACD through the ADC/DVI adaptor.
The screen was nice and bright all throughout the installation, but after I installed the boot camp drivers from the Apple install disc, the screen became really dim. If I open the Nvidia control panel and try and change the brightness from there, the screen stays dim, but just gets really washed out.
The weird thing is, it translates back onto the OS X side. When I restart after being in Vista, the display is still very dim - I have to go in the Displays system preferences and manually change the brightness back up from minimum. Conversely, when I boot into Vista having been in OS X, the screen is initially bright through all the login screens, but then switches back to being dark as soon as I have logged in.
There is probably a really simple solution to this, but as I am completely unfamiliar with Vista, I'm stuffed if I can work it out. Any advice is gratefully received.

Windows On Mac :: Installed Parallels Desktop Coherence - Taskbar Keeps Disappearing
Sep 21, 2010Yesterday, I have downloaded Parallels Desktop to my Macbook Pro, and my brother brought a CD of Windows 7 to install there. At first, in the coherence mode, the taskbar was working amazingly until I turned off my computer. When I turned it back on, Windows 7 started to run, and the taskbar started to disappear and reappear after awhile. Then I restarted Parallels, then the taskbar completely disappeared. I have tried to modify its settings, and it still didn't work. So, I changed the coherence mode to window one, the taskbar was there. And then I changed it back to coherence, it disappeared again.
What should I do to get it back in the coherence mode?

Jul 14, 2010I have time machine running as well as Parallels installed. Every time Time Machine backs up it does a minimum of 18.4GB. I 100% do not have that many changes each hour. BTW, running Snow Leopard. I have a screen shot of all the items I have excluded, but it still is doing it.

Apr 10, 2009I searched for a while trying to find the answer but did not find it. I just installed Vista Business via Bootcamp. I am not able to access the internet or anything. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?

I tried saving the cd on my desktop and manually typing in the location, but that doesnt work. Unless im typing the wrong location in?

Jan 22, 2010So, I recently installed Parallels 5 on my MacBook and then I installed Windows 7 as a virual machine. For some reason, I cannot get Windows 7 to run in "aero" mode.
The MacBook I installed it on is a year or two old (it's a Black MacBook). It's got a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I believe the sceps are enough to support "aero" mode.
In the virtual machine configure menu. I've selected Processors = 1 and Mani Memory = 1200 MB (top of recommended).
When trying to adjust my settings in Windows 7, there is a message at the bottom of he personalization screen with a link to "Troubleshoot problems with transparency and other aero effects". When I click the link, it runs a test to detect problems. After the test is complete, it tells me that Desktop Window Manager is disabled.

Oct 19, 2009I recently installed the 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate operating system onto my MacBook Pro 13 inch. I have the most basic Macbook Pro 13 inch with nothing fancy added. Whenever I load up the Windows 7 OS on my Macbook, it never utilizes or even realizes that I have the NVIDIA graphics card in my laptop. It instead believes I have some integrated graphics card that cannot even run the most basic of PC games. I know my laptop can run these games because on OSX it runs multiple games with higher requirements than these games I am trying to run on Windows.
Basic question: How do I get bootcamp or whatever else to make Windows 7 realize I have a NVIDIA card and drivers. Sorry if I am coming off as stupid or confusing.

May 27, 2009So i am trying to change my apple boot camp drivers to nvidia's, but i think i must have downloaded the wrong ones, or done something wrong. I tried to install Geforce/Ion driver release 192.62, (from nvidia's site, i selected gefore 8 series) and when i ran the setup it said: 'nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your hardware' . My questions are:
� Which drivers should i download? a link would be great.
� Are there any pre-requisites i must do, such as install version 170 first?
I am using an iMac 24" with 4gb ram, 500gb 5400 rpm HDD, and 8800 GS 512mb.
The reason I am trying this, is because when i play some online games, i often get bad lag spikes, but that chat is still running. Someone recommended me to 'update my drivers'.

Aug 29, 2009I have Parallels 3 installed, mostly to run MS Money. Last night I installed Snow Leopard, unaware that Parallels 3 is not compatible. It appears that I need to go out and buy Parallels 4 as that will work with Snow Leopard.
My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.

Oct 11, 2009I have a Macbook plastic, 2.4 GHz intel core 2 Duo with 2 GB of ram.My Mac is currently running on OS X, i used to have a 40 gig partition Windows XP, a couple of friends of mine where talking about how much they liked Windows 7 and finally i had had enough blue screens to say, sure ill switch, why not?... assuming it would not take longer then lets say a day at most, i set off on my quest.
FWI, im running an older model Macbook that was bought refurbished (not sure if that has anything to do with my problem). anyway i removed my previous partition, then using Boot Camp Assistant i repartitioned a 40 gig section for Windows 7. Then ran the installer. I have a copy of Windows 7 ultimate 86x. The Windows boot screen turned up, i had to reformat the partition so that i could install, no problems there. after all said and done the installation worked perfectly, up to a point... First problem that appeared was the lack of sound. i fixed that by downloading Realtek's High Def sound drivers.
Then it was the rest of the drivers for the macbook. heres where i run into my problem, i have the Mac OSX install discs 1 and 2. inserting the first disc the option of the auto run of the setup popped up i clicked run. and instead of the same old install drivers option all i have is the option to install the software that lets macbook airs share cd/dvd drives... needless to say i got frustrated and to put it lightly pissed off...
unsure of wtf was going on i looked it up online and really couldnt find anyone with the same problem, i found a web page saying that i should have the windows auto update itself and that should fix the problem. it did not. i dont know what the hell is going on. and im about this close to reinstalling windows xp and telling windows 7 to go **** itself...

Apr 29, 2010I'm ready to upgrade my MacBook 13" late 2006 model to a new 15 inch pro, and realize that, especially in the college environment where many professors demand windows, I should run it somehow. I've been doing extensive research for the last hour on the best way to run it, however I'm in a complete deadlock. Some people say just do boot camp, but I don't mind paying up to $100 extra if it will really be much smoother. Even when I try to compare the differences between VMware and Parallels (the latest versions of both), I don't see anything hugely significant. Plus, I see just as many complaints about both of them (I'm reading 1-star HORROR STORIES on amazon of each one), and really, really just want a smooth experience. So, my dear MacRumors friends, I come to you for advice. Which of the three programs do you recommend?
