Windows On Mac :: Won't Work With Reinstalling Bootcamp / VM Ware After Deleting

Aug 31, 2010

So I had Bootcamp installed. I then installed VMware. During setup it automatically detected the Bootcamp partition and things were great. I then deleted Bootcamp for other reasons and have since reinstalled it. I am not sure how to get VM to point at Bootcamp now? It did it automatically last time. I have deleted the physical disk from settings. I just can't figure out how to get back at Bootcamp.

Windows On Mac :: Bootcamp Or VM Ware Without Dvd?

Aug 17, 2010

I am a really new MAC user. I had a Windows Vista laptop and had purchased the Windows 7 download update for a Windows 7 Professional. However, I only have the .exe file with me that I was able to download from the website. I do not have a DVD. Is there any way that I can use the .exe file for Bootcamp or VMWare? I have paid for the windows 7 OS, I have the .exe file but no DVD. I cheaped out on that. But now, I have a dilemma because my school starts and I need a Windows Environment to run .exe applications for my engineering programs. These .exe files are really small and I am sure it would work fine if I can have VMWare running on my 13" MBP.

Windows On Mac :: VM Ware Partition Size?

Jun 11, 2010

I recently upgraded to a new Intel X-25 80G SSD on my 2007 MBP. While looking at what to move onto the new smaller SSD I noted that VM Ware had my virtual machine partitioned to 20 G. The settings in VM Ware however wouldn't let me shrink it to a smaller size. It said that 20 G was a minimum. I'm only actually using about 10G and would like to free up some more space on the smaller SSD. Does anyone know how I might do this if it is even possible?

Vista will not recognize the modem nor is there any driver support through Apple for this scenario. Any suggestions or tricks would be great? Oh yeah, if i get this to work my company will deploy all Mac products .

MacBook Pro :: Cpu Gets Very Hot While Using VM Ware Fusion Image?

May 17, 2012

I use VM Ware Fusion on my Mac Book Pro.When I start up an image with Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008R2, my cpu gets very hot.Temperature can go up to 90 degrees celsius for a brief moment, but usually i stays stable around 60 degrees celsius. I also use smFanControl, to make sure my fans are cooling a bit harder when I use VM Ware Fusion.

I have the next questions: Is the temparature rise normal? Can it harm my laptop (cpu)? Can smFancontrol damage my fans, while running harder for about 8 hours like that?Or is ther something wrong with my Mac, because during temerature rise to for instance 90 degrees, the cpu is used for like 30-40 percent?

Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Harddisc has now tree partitions

Does anyone know or have the same problem where pressing the F7, F8, F9 keys (which are previous, stop/pause, and forward) doesn't work in iTunes unless iTunes is the "active" window? I know that in OS X that if i pressed those buttons, it would do it even if I was in another application, but in the Windows 7 version it won't do it if another application is "active." Also, the same applies to the Apple Remote.

Windows On Mac :: Won't Work With Parallels / Windows Vista 64-bit Boot Camp

Apr 10, 2009

I was able to get Windows Vista 64 running on my 17" MBP, it is pretty slick. I set aside 32 GB for Windows, ran the install, loaded all the appropriate Boot Camp drivers and everything is working perfectly in Windows. I boot back to OS X to attempt to configure Parallels...

So I fired up Parallels and follow the guided instructions. However, when I get to step 2 Im not sure what I should be doing. I already have Windows on its own partition, but Parallels is asking me for a CD/DVD image. Im a little leery of putting the Win disc back in, I dont want Parallels to always want to boot from the disc. how do I tell Parallels to load Windows as a Virtual Machine off of the Boot Camp partition?

The partition Boot Camp created now appears on my Desktop in OS X as Untitled, I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to change that. If I eject that volume will I still be able to Boot to Windows? Will Parallel still work?

Windows On Mac :: Won't Work With Boot Camp In Windows 7 Build 7077 X64

Apr 16, 2009

So I finally got Windows 7 64bit installed on my MBP 2.33 machine.

However, from the guides, I should just insert my leopard disc and it should run. This is the thing, I don't know where my leopard disc is (i've been moving a lot lately due to being unemployed) and its either lost or packed away somewhere. I have a backup copy on my time machine drive and haven't tried that yet. I downloaded a 2.1 extraction and burned it to CD though. I inserted the CD and I can see in windows 7 three applications. One is Windows XP, the others are Windows Vista 32 and Windows Vista 64. I click the Vista 64, but nothing happens at all, and no drivers are isntalled.

Windows On Mac :: Won't Install Windows 7 RC1 / Can't Work With Boot Camp

Apr 26, 2009

I have been trying to install Windows 7 X86 RC1 on my brand new early 2009 iMac and have been having the same problem every time.

Initial installation goes very smoothly, but all the trouble begins when I load the Boot Camp setup.exe from the Leopard disc.

During Boot Camp installation I get a compatibility warning about some of the Apple Boot Camp drivers working correctly with this version of Windows.

If I go ahead with the installation then what happens is I get a BSOD and then Windows becomes un-bootable. This is repeatable as it happens every single time I do the installation.

Things initially seem to work up until I load boot camp assistant from the Leopard install disc, so I'm wondering if there are other drivers available that play well with Windows 7 for my iMac that I can try? I've followed several Boot Camp tutorials for iMac with Win7 and am pretty sure I am doing everything correctly, but things just aren't working.

Windows On Mac :: Windows 7 On Macbook Pro - Bootcamp Driver Won't Work

May 20, 2009

I have a Macbook Pro 15" , C2D 2.33ghz. I have the 7100 version of Windows 7 and everything worked perfectly except for the sound.

No matter which bootcamp driver I try or even Realtek's own vista one nothing works.

I downloaded the bootcamp 2.1 drivers and everything installed correctly , including the realtek ones. All the hardware looks fine in device manager but I dont hear anything out.

Should the default be speakers? It seems that it keeps the driver as microsofts own and it doesnt say anything about realtek. Could that be the problem?

I did not try the microphone jack yet but will in a few minutes.

Even if there is a hack , Im willing to try it. What is the exact audio chipset on this model of macbook pro?

Windows On Mac :: Autodesk, Boot Camp, Windows 7 Work Together?

Sep 8, 2009

I want to know if anyone can identify compatibility issues with this set-up, it's for architecture school and it is very important that it works.

17" Macbook Pro 2.8Ghz
8GB RAM
128GB Solid State Drive

Here's where it gets confusing:

through Boot Camp 3.0, run Windows 7 Home Premium
run AutoCAD 2010
run 3Ds Max 2010
run Revit Architecture 2010

(Each of these have well-documented problems running in Boot Camp regarding broken licenses, however, no information I can find since 2008 identifies issues. Autodesk's website does specifically say each of these products are supported on OSX through Boot Camp.)

I will be saving all files to either an external HDD (these also have been documented to cause problems concerning the license in Boot Camp, I am presuming that since Autodesk now supports Boot Camp, this issue has been/will be resolved through Autodesk) or a networked storage system at the university.

OSX will be used primarily for using Adobe CS4 Design, OpenOffice, and internet browsing. Basically, pleasure use with a minimum of curriculum-related applications (except for CS4).

ive been using my clean win7homepremium install for about 4 weeks now. i have the video card working nicely and all seems to be well, i play modernwarfare2 on it and it is all good... however (there is always one..)

the mic doesnt work... it seems to be recording but at a super low volume. i check win7 sound control and the recording is set to 'microphone' but no dice. i turn up the boost and volume to full and tap the mic on top of the display and i get 3 green bars...

i was hoping the 3.1 updates would fix it, however i cant get anything to install... its like its an update for vista, not an update for people already running windows 7.

Windows On Mac :: How To Create Partition To Work With Both Windows And Mac

Apr 12, 2010

I have an iMac with a 230gb hard drive, and I've just used boot camp to create a 50gb partition for windows, all seems to be going smoothly enough.

Now, I'd like to be able to take a good chunk of the remaining hard disk space and create a partition that will work between mac osx and windows.

At the moment:
Mac OSX partition = 180gb
Windows = 50gb

I'd like to make a partition (about 120gb) from the mac osx side, and label it "audio drive" (i use audio software and i'd like to run the data on a separate location to the software).

How can I do this in such a way that both OSX and Windows XP will recognise the "drive" or partition? Im assuming I'll have to use Fat32, however Disk Utility won't give me that option (not that I can see anyway)

Edit: The OS's are Leopard and XP Service Pack 3

Windows On Mac :: Bootcamp Restart - Option Won't Work After Windows Restart?

Apr 29, 2007

This is a problem I've noticed on two Macs I currently own. First I had my 20" iMac with Vista installed, and currently I have a 24" iMac with XP installed. In both cases, when I'm in Windows and need to restart (for whatever reason) and want to go back into Windows instead of OS X, the Option key does not function correctly to bring up the OS select screen, and instead will go straight to OS X, as that is the default OS I have set up to boot into.

So basically, if I restart from OS X, the Option key works fine and I can choose to go into Windows, but restart from Windows and I have no choice in the matter, it makes me go into OS X. Any idea why?

My first thought is that it has to do with the fact that I'm using Apple's bluetooth keyboard (and mouse), but once the computer has actually restarted, why would it matter? Does the computer remember the BIOS from Windows when it restarts, and therefore fails to recognize my bluetooth? For the record I have to turn my keyboard off then on again when entering windows to get it to be recognized and work, but not the mouse, which works fine.

Windows On Mac :: Getting PC Games To Work On Mac?

Mar 7, 2008

I just recently purchased a Macbook Pro for my college major this year. I had a PC before it, but it crashed and I dont want to have to buy another one since I already payed $2000+ for the Macbook Pro. I have a few PC games that I would still like to play.

So I used Boot Camp to put Windows Vista on my Mac then installed the games to it. The three games I put on Vista were Half-Life, The Longest Journey and Grim Fandango. So after installing each of them I tried to play them to make sure they worked. Both Grim Fandango and The Longest Journey started to load the game but were interrupted with an error message, not allowing me to play. Half-Life on the other hand loads and plays perfectly.

So my question is, is there some way for me to play the two games that didnt work? If so how can I get them to work. The only reason I put Vista on was so I could play those games. And if I cant get them to work I'm probably just gonna take Vista off of my Mac.
