I recently received My Macbook I bought without The Mac Restore disc. I plan on getting Snow leopard, but in the meantime I wanted to know If I can use bootcamp to install windows xp sp2 oem Cd that I purchased 2007 without the Mac disc? When I tried it displayed Mac os X cd as required.
View 7 RepliesPlease take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.

I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I found an article on how to delete Microsoft Windows from bootcamp but it only applied to OS X 10.6 and sooner and required an installation disc. As title says. I can no longer hold option to boot into bootcamp (fairly old issue - I tihnk it's my keyboard), so I just use startup disc preference pane. Today, Windows does not show up. I downloaded bootchamp and it also gave me an error when trying to restart....any ideas at all? I can't do anything with the bootcamp partition in the disc utility.
EDIT: Opening the bootcamp assistant gives me :""Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used: You must update your computer's boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant".
Note I was in win7 earlier today without issue....

I have windows XP burned onto a disc with a few other programs so when I have to insert the windows disc will that work? Or would I have to burn it to a dvd by itself? Will windows install off a flash drive maybe? Also, When it asks for the MAC osx disc, can I just use the install discs that came with my new MBP?

If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows with no problem. Now I need to install the drivers, aka the mac disc. There are 2 mac discs I had in my Macbook Pro package. I put in my first one. It was, surprisingly a blank CD. I put in my second one. It did show BOOTCAMP this time, but it only had the options 'Remote Install Mac OS X' and 'DVD or CD sharing'. I couldn't install them. What is wrong with this. I am certain that the package wasn't fake, since I have the Macbook Pro here, but why doesn't the install CDs work?

This is a similar problem to a million others that I've read on google, but slightly different and I cant get to the bottom of it. So, I had a 100GB hard drive running 10.5 and created a 20GB partition for XP. All good, all worked. But 20GB wasnt quite enough so I purchased a new 160GB drive and used Carbon Copy Cloner to create an exact copy of my OS X partition on the new drive. Removed old hard drive, installed new one and OS X runs like a dream still.
However, now I go to make my windows partition using bootcamp assistant and get the following error: "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS. Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again." Thing is, there is only one partition on my drive when I look in disc utility. I could just format the drive and restore using carbon copy cloner I guess, but I'd like to avoid that hassle.
I am interested in installing windows 7 on my macbook. I am a student so am able to get the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc for cheap. I would like to know if it is possible for me to perform a clean install of windows 7 through BootCamp, with no previous windows versions installed using this upgrade disc.

I have installed a partition using BootCamp of 45GB but once it prompts me to insert the Windows disk, I insert it but after a few seconds the machine ejects the disk without ever mounting or seemingly recognizing the disk.
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from a disk.
Can anyone offer any insight or help me figure out what the problem is? I have already tried rebooting and that doesn't work.

I have a copy of Vista Business 64bit, which I want to run because of the extra ram I'll have in that beast of a thing. Up until now I've just been using the other comps in my sig, and from what I've heard it's hard to get 64bit windows working in Boot Camp. But are there 64 bit drivers on the Leopard install disc to make this a bit more pain free?

Under 'properties' it said it was a blank cd with 0 megabytes on it and 0 megabytes of storage. If I opened the DVD there was nothing there. I did get this CD from someone else, it is the 'official' OSX Snow Leopard DVD copied onto another cd, but theoretically everything is there. I am running a non unibody macbook pro 15", might I be able to download these drivers elsewhere?

Could anyone tell me how to access or view the Windows support (boot camp) files on the Leopard installation disc, whilst in leopard. That is when you put the leopard install disc in the mac it shows you the leopard stucture or thereabouts, but I want to know what programs that are available for the mac. That will let me see whether or not there is Windows support also on the install DVD. I know the easy option is to boot up into windows & put the install dvd in & wait to see if it boots up. That isn't an option at the minute.

View 13 Replies View RelatedWell basically I tried to install Windows on Bootcamp, and long story short I have to completely reinstall OSX. When I put the Snow Leopard disc in, I try holding either Command-Option-Shift-Delete or just c, and neither methods work. It always tries to boot from the HD, in which case I just get the spinning circle for ever. Why wont it boot from the disc?!?!? I also tried plugging in an external dvd drive, and it still wont work....
I was trying to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp last night - all went well until Win7 started up - it wanted me to type a Username for the default user. However, I have a wireless keyboard & mouse, and these didn't appear to be recognised (I think I might have to pair them later??). I had to abort the installation by hard resetting. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed Windows 7 64x on my Macbook, now when I insert the Mac OS X disc that came with my Macbook I can install the Bootcamp64 file but when I insert the Snow Leopard disk to install Bootcamp 3.0 I can't install the Bootcamp64 or the 32 bit Bootcamp file. I really want the 3.0 version so that I can have the read capability for the Mac partition in Windows. When I try to install the Bootcamp64 it comes up saying "This installation requires elevated privilages. Launch the installer through setup.exe" When I run it through setup.exe however it comes up with the message saying that it Bootcamp64 is unsupported on this model. The same message would come up when I use the Leopard disks but I was able to bypass this by instaling it through the Bootcamp64 file found in the Apple drivers folder.
Can someone help me out here I need to get Bootcamp 3.0 installed, I think there are some 3rd party apps that can give you HTFS read capability but I don't want use those, I've looked at some they are horrible so don't suggest it!! Also I'm not a 64x fanatic, I'm using Windows64x because you need it to use 4GB ram.

Yet when I run it, it gives the same error stating I need to using Windows Vista or XP SP2.
