I'm trying to install windows xp professional sp3 from an iso I torrented. I burned it to a disc, but my computer can't find the disc during the start of installation ("No bootable device, press any key").

View 4 Replies View RelatedNot only will holding Option while booting not work, but all of the other boot tricks (safe mode, single user mode, etc), will not work. I am at a loss. I also don't have an optical drive in this particular MBP. I have an SSD where it once was.

I have this student's laptop who's hdd was corrupted as. Only 10% worked, able to slightly read through external drive reader which took ages to read. Couldn't get testwin or chkdsk to repair it (under windows)Anyway, got him to replace the hdd and he also wanted windows on there. Either XP or 7 on there.Upon trying to boot from the windows 7 or windows XP disc, I get "no bootable device found - insert boot disc and press any key"Thus tried booting while holding C down, and tried booting while holding "option" down", problem is..i think his bios is corrupted as well. I get a white screen upon powering up. No mac logo. When I hold down "option", the mouse arrow pops up but nothing to click on.

I installed Windows 7 through Bootcamp and I got everything installed perfectly!
I partitioned my Mac's hard drive into 3 before the Windows installation:
-Mac OS
-Data For Windows
-System for Windows itself
It all worked fine and i could drag and drop anything into that Data Hard drive through Windows very easily. However, when I came back to my Mac OS and partitioned my Mac Hard Drive into 2 parts(Which makes 4 partition now) and tried booting back up to my Windows, it gave me that error. I then decided to re-partition it like before which was Mac, Data and Windows. Booted it back to Windows and it gives me the same error again. I have an attached Picture showing how my partitions look now. Does anyone know how to fix it? I think it's because what my Windows is booting from is the Data Hard Drive but not my Windows 7 Hard Drive with the OS on it. Is there a way to change it's place or to tell it which Hard Drive to boot from?
Just to save me some cash, I thought that I might be able to use my windows 7 boot CD to install it on my Mac with boot camp. Is this possible though?
View 1 Replies View Relatedlike a number of ppl, I only had a legit XP Pro SP1 and not an SP2 version as required for a seamless Boot Camp install. (Actually I do have a legit SP2 CD but the activation key has been mislaid!... damn). I was looking at going down the somewhat convoluted "slipstream" path to generate a working SP2 build utilising the SP1 key I had but what I have found is that the BootDir registry hack that had been used in the past for SP3 compatibility, also works for SP1 installs. Basically the problem is that the Apple supplied Windows drivers requires the Installer from an SP2 build and the SP2 update fails on a Boot Camp partition without the BootDir hack. So my suggested install method is as follows... ymmv. (Note this has been done with two identical MacBook Pro's with the latest Leopard build). Create the BootCamp partition as per the standard instructions and using your XP Pro SP1 CD going through the usual Windows install dialogs to the point where it want's to restart. I have found that when the Windows tries to shutdown to perform a restart that it hangs. Just hold down the power button on the Mac to force a shutdown leaving a minute or so just in case Windows is being slow. Boot back to Windows (via standard Boot Camp Option button) and perform the registry hack as published elsewhere for SP3 updates. Basically it is adding a key 'BootDir' with a value of 'C:' to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionSetup
Note that you need to be able to right click on the mouse in regedit to create this key and at this point without the Apple drivers installed I don't think trackpad supports this so I have used a generic two button USB mouse. Once this registry entry is added you can install the SP2 update (as downloaded from Microsoft - WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe). Once again I have found that Windows still hangs after the SP2 install restart until the Apple updates are applied... so nail the power button again after a pause or two. Once you are back to Windows again you can now install the Apple drivers found on the Disk 1 of you Leopard CD although I would recommend downloading the latest v2.1 from Apple if not. (Note there is a minor update to v2.1.1 available through the Apple Software Installation program). I am not sure if you could go direct to SP3 using this method but I have tended to stick with SP2 as SP3 tends to slow bootup/shutdown. Most Mac users would use FireFox/Safari in preference to IE so you have already improved the security of XP
I am currently on a macbook that I bought in the summer of 2008, and I just decided I wanted to be able to run Windows on my laptop. I found my WindowsXP installation disk, a factory disk, and opened up boot camp to install Windows. I was following instructions from another thread on another computer I have at home. I got through partitioning my disk and got the windowsXP installation ready to begin when I realized I couldn't find my MacOSX disk, and thus wouldn't be able to install the Windows drivers after installing Windows (I was running Mac OS X 10.5.8), so I stopped the installation there and un-partitioned my harddrive. I then ordered Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3, and I just received the CD today. I installed Snow Leopard, then did the same thing that I did before with boot camp and partitioned my drive. However, this time when I got to the part where I put in my Windows disk, the computer reboots and starts, but the Windows installation won't begin. It just sits at a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner. I've tried giving it over 30 minutes to start but it just won't go. Logically I would assume there's a problem with the disk, but I used this same disk less than a week ago and got halfway through the installation without any problems. Why won't my WindowsXP installer disk boot up?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi'm a HUGE gamer, so the first thing I did once I loaded this new computer up was install my copy of Windows Vista on it using Boot Camp Assistant. The installation went completely smoothly, so I then proceeded to install the Boot Camp Drivers onto my new and fresh and clean Windows Installation.
I restarted the computer and everything seemed to be in working order...but there are two relatively MAJOR problems:
One, the one that is the most pressing, is the sound. When I started up after installing all of the boot camp drivers, I couldn't get a single audio device to get recognized by my Vista Home Premium installation. I tried disabling and re-disabling other drivers in the Device Manager, and when I try to download new drivers for the one audio device that has an error sign next to it, Vista claims that it is already updated to the latest drivers, so it will not install new ones. I even went onto cirrus' website to download their official drivers, and the same thing happened.
I just updated my (2006 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz 15") MacBookPro to Leopard 10.5.6 I installed Windows XP SP3 through bootcamp, and everything was fine, but after i was done installing the BootCamp drivers from the Leopard disk and I restarted the computer,and booted back into windows, it would load to windows show my desktop for about 5 seconds then reboot itself (no error messages). So I mounted the windows partition again, same thing, over and over, I must have done it 20 times.I even tried doing the bootcamp 2.1 update and it didn't work. So i restored windows to the previous working settings and the bootcamp drivers were gone. So Windows works now but i am not abled to use the wifi or any multi touch or anything. I have also deleted the Windows partition and reinstalled it from the beginning and the same thing happened after installing the bootcamp drivers.

I've been trying to install windows xp, vista, or 7 using bootcamp but for some odd reason i cannot boot into the cd. I put the cd in and made sure the macbook is reading it (which it is because the icon shows up on the desktop) before i hit "start installation". the laptop would restart but it doesnt boot into the cd, it just goes right into the gray screen and stays there while i hear the cd spinning. I've installed windows xp using this method but that was about 4 years ago, for some reason the hard drive died on me so i have to do this whole process over again. I dont recall having this problem either.

I setup a 20GB partition on my drive (I'm using a MacBook Pro, 3GB, 120GB hard drive). It's the only partition other than the one I use for OS X.
I didn't have full-install SP2 discs, only an upgrade. So I went to Fry's and bought a legal, new OEM disc and license for XP Professional SP2, full-install. I ran the installer and all went well...until I rebooted. At that point, Windows wouldn't load giving me a non-system disc error.
I made my bootcamp partition small at 16 gb (apparently far too small) since I was just going to use it for a couple of programs. I went to install a game and it looks like windows 7 on it's own is taking up 14 gigs. Is this normal?

If I install Windows with Boot Camp, and then install Parallels, do I need to make another Windows partition, or will it use the partition created in Boot Camp? Should I install Windows using Boot Camp first and then Parallels, or the other way around?

However I only partitioned 35 GB for Win-doze which after some thought I realized that having installed windoze for the sole purpose of playing games (which require alot of space) Anyway, I played a few games like "Crysis" and "The Last Remnant" both worked fantastically but I didn't want to get too far in them just to have to re-do the boot camp later and lose the data, so I went ahead and uninstalled the windoze partition and proceeded to go through the motions again, However this time around I set aside a 200GB partition. For some reason everything seemed to take MUCH longer, or instance it sat on the "restarting computer..." screen for 5-10 minutes, finally restarted then windoze loaded and went to the collecting information;Dynamic update;preparing installation;installing windoze
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Win 7 through Boot Camp, everytime it gets to installing at 1% I get an error message. Windows cannot installed required files. Files missing or Corrupt 0x80070570. What I've tried:
- Using 32 Bit instead of 64 Bit Windows
- Burning both at low speeds (Disk Utilities and IMGBurn)
- Tried installing XP then doing an upgrade to Win 7, but only have XP Upgrade and eject key doesn't work during installation when prompted for older version verification.
Anyone experinced or heard of this before?
I am running Leopard on a 1st gen macbook. I used boot camp assistant to partition the disk, and then went to install windows. I didn't back up bc I am an ass. Then I got to the part where I had to choose a partition. I reformatted the Boot Camp partition to NTFS. I then realized that the partition is too small. I have to get back into Leopard to fix the partition problem. Now, I can't reboot to Leopard. Holding alt or the apple key or both does not prevent the windows dvd from booting. When I eject the DVD, it tells me "no bootable disk." I never installed Vista. I don't understand how I could have overwritten anything or caused any data loss.
View 11 Replies View RelatedSo earlier after installing a windows 7 ultimate 64 bit RTM copy into bootcamp, things started acting up;
After installing some updates for 7, rebooting, it took about a minute to get the HD icons up to even choose one, and after that it was fine, except then the windows partition eventually just had a blinking cursor in the top right and stayed there.
I went into OSx, removed the 7 partition completely! my HD is one partition for Osx, but when I boot now, it takes yearsssss to just boot to osx, but if I hold option, then I instantly get a Macintosh HD (that's it) and it will go straight away.
What do I need to do? Reinstall SL? Please god no.
Partitions seem to be all messed up, maybe I will re create a windows install, and remove it again. (Xp this time)
Edit, This happened on 2 different MBP's one a 2.8 duo after I put on 7, they both take forever to boot to OSx. (With no BC partition even on)

I'm receiving the "no boot-able device insert boot disk and press any key" error every time I go to turn on my macbook air. The screen chimes, turns on and then goes black. I've been holding down the option key and that seems to work but do I have to do this every time I turn my computer on from now on?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI first installed Windows XP when I got my early 2008 Mac Pro. Boot Camp was probably beta back then, but I cant say my experience has changed much through Vista 32 bit or now Windows 7 64 bit. The way to dual boot, holding ALt during boot, has worked 1/10 times. Literally. The boot symbols are usually delayed, so I know when I choose the win partition, it gives me the "No bootable device" error. Two times have I had heavy OS X crashes after these boot-up "games". This last time I had to completely reinstall OS X (or upgrade to SL). How could this be, im not even booting into OS X when I am trying to boot into win.
I even have a separate hard drive for my Win partition. Not to mention the stream of driver issues you encounter when you finally manage to get inside Windows. I actually had my apple wireless and mouse working in Windows 7, but then I installed Boot Camp drivers of the DVD, and now theyre dead. I know. Its Windows, why would I miss it? Gaming or apps, regardless. Apple shouldnt include a program that functions so poorly, if they insist on higher standards elsewhere. It only reflects badly upon them. I consider myself a decent level mac user, venturing into command line troubleshooting if needed. But BootCamp remains a mystery to me.
I have the latest 17" i7 macbook pro and installed windows 7 64 bit on 100 gb partition. Long story short, I decided to delete the partition for now and install another time. It deleted fine, but every time I turn the computer on, it will load and say " no bootable device" but if I turn on holding option, the mac partition shows up fine and loads normally when I click on it. I just need help completely getting rid of the partition. My Mac hd says 500gb capacity. So its not partitioned any more.

Thus far i have downloaded the .iso image off MSDN (throught my university, for all intents and purposes should be as legitimate as an off the shelf copy) and burned it to DVD as a bootable disc image. however for some reason when using Boot Camp im told "The installer disc could not be found".There is data on the disc however when i go into the disc via finder it appears empty (no icons)... even though it is not (get info > xyzMB used).

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.
So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?

I assume to format the drive I use Disk Utility from my install CD?
how to make a boot camp installation with three partitions?
I mean one for mac, one for windows and one for data to be shared between the OS's? When I try to create 3 partitions on leopard installation, when I start the boot camp assistant, it doesn't work. Or when I create an extra partition inside windows, mac is not able to see it.
I have one program that I will have to run in boot camp. The rest of the time, I would like to run in Parallels. Will I have to install XP twice to do this and thus take up more hard drive?

I have done the following:
1. Did a clean installation of OS X Snow Leopard on hard drive (Not yet partitioned the hard drive)
2. Installed rEFIt
I am not sure what the poster means by making sure it works by pressing the option button. I am assuming it means that I will be able to see the options I can choose when I press option? (I do see options to pick either "Hard Drive" or whatever disc in the DVD)
3. Partitioned 30 GB (or was it 40 GB? x.x I forgot sorry) space in Boot Camp Assistant for Windows installation. Chose the option to install Windows later.
4. Inserted OS X Snow Leopard installation disc and boot from there.
5. Opened up the Disk Utility and partitioned a hard drive (called Hard Drive_2) via the Partition section as instructed by the guide. Formatted in MAc OS Extended (Journaled)
So now, in that area I see "Hard Drive", "Hard Drive_2" and "BOOT CAMP" (so I am assuming that is what the poster meant by "3 partitions".
6. Restarted the computer with Windows installation disc.
Problems occur right here:
Problem 1: I do not see anything called "C something" as the poster said. But I do see something called "Boot Camp"
Problem 2: All the partitions that are available says that "Windows 7 can't be installed". So my question is am I supposed to "delete" a specific partition to install it?
I have pictures of the screen which I will upload later if this isn't clear enough.
