Windows On Mac :: 7 Running Slow In Parallels
Nov 21, 2009I'm running Win 7 64 bit on a stock End of 08 Macbook (Alu). Would this improve by buying some more memory or are there some settings I can change?

View 1 RepliesMy 8 gigs of RAM came today! Now I have 10 gigs in my Mac Pro. The first thing I wanted to do was to play a game in Parallels under Windows XP (32 bit, for now). However, upon booting into XP in Parallels and running the game, half the graphics are not displaying (very choppy) and I can hardly even move my mouse it's so slow. I right clicked My Computer and hit properties and it showed only 512 megs of RAM being used. I went into Parallels settings and changed Memory Allocation from automatic to custom and cut the RAM in half by moving the slider to the middle (4~5 gigs for Windows and 4~5 for Leopard, which is fine), rebooted the Virtual Machine and it still showed 512 megabytes, and the game was still slow. I know that my system recognizes the RAM because in About This Mac it shows 10 gigs.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I could I would get rid of everything related to Microsoft but unfortunately I need to use Windows applications for my work. Specifically, Autocad Civil 3D, Revit Architecture and a bunch of structural engineering programs. I have tried running these applications on Parallels on Mac systems such as MacBook Pro Mid 2009 (2.93 C2D, 4gb ram) but was not satisfied with the performance. Autocad was lagging even when working in 2D. I don't even have to talk about Revit... I never had the opportunity to test this on more powerful systems and this is where I need your advice. Is it possible for the Mac Pro to run these applications on Parallels seamlessly? That is, as if you were running Windows on a PC? What is more important CPU, RAM, GPU? To catch up with a few possible comments, a) I don't want to run Windows via bootcamp, b) I am aware that Autacad is coming to Mac OS but I need the extra features of Civil 3D and Revit.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI received parallels 4.0 as a gift 2 months ago and did not install the software. But now, as win7 is out, I am really interested to get it installed, but is it recommended to run Win7 (64-bit) on Parallels 4.0 and not the latest version of Parallels? Sadly, I could not get it exchanged for parallels 5.0 in my local stores. Will it crash or lag my macbook pro? My system is 2.66GHz and 320GB, bought in oct 2009 mbp.

Well cause of work, we have some a lot of old data at work that was collected over the years using dos programs and I need to go threw it and pull out what I need, when I need it. So having it on my laptop would be great. I have tried both Parallels & VMware with no luck. I can't get them to realize that I have a floppy drive, it's a usb floppy drive. I have 6gig of memory running snow lepoard. I have been thinking of trying the Sun Microsystem software but thought I would ask here first.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have installed Windows 7 using bootcamp with no problems. I now want to use parallel so I can do some things in windows without restarting. I don't want to get rid of the bootcamp install though since I do gaming through it. Now that I've installed Parallel it's asking if I want to use the bootcamp partition in the virtual machine? Do I? I don't really understand.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI finally made the switch from PC to Mac buy selling my HP laptop and desktop computers and buying the new MacBook Pro. However, I have licenses for Creative Suite 4 for Windows and still need to run it on my Mac using Boot Camp and/or Parallels until I can afford to jump to CS5 for Mac (this MBP took a big chunk of my cash). I'd like to run Windows using Boot Camp AND Parallels - Boot Camp when I need all system resources and Parallels when I need to hop over to Windows to type a Word document or something quick (got Office 2007 for Windows too).
Can I use both Boot Camp and Parallels with one serial number for Windows 7? If so, how do I install? Would I install Windows on Boot Camp or Parallels first? If anyone has some guidance for installing one copy of Windows 7 on both applications
I use Parallels to create a virtual PC running Windows 7. I have installed Office 2010 on the PC side and Office 2011 on the Mac. All VBA works fine on the PC side, but bombs on the Mac. It was my understanding (directly from Apple) that with the release of Office 2011 for the Mac that all code was now conforming with the PC version. This is probably true for new code written under Office 2010 (PC), however, most all of my applications have been developed over time through many versions of Windows based software (probably the last 10 years)…to date I have never had an issue with compatibility (on the Windows side). I have done some online research into the errors that I receive, however I am really an novice/intermediate programmer and am unable to find adequate solutions to the initial problems (as shown below).
Once I receive the run-time error 1004 I use the debug feature, etc. and end with "Can't find project or library. The initial error is probably just the beginning, but I am unable to go forward from this point.

Its only a year old and now its suddenly taking 30 seconds to open up Finder and Mail and Chrome take a long time to start up. Also I noticed that the 3 buttons (red, orange, and green) at the top left of every window are grayed out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded the latest update to Parallels. I shut down Parallels before running the update, and I even did a reboot of the computer. And yet every time I run the update program it keeps telling me to "shut down these running and suspended virtual machines" and refers to "My Boot Camp"Like I said, I rebooted the computer first. There are no virtual machines running. Zero, zilch, nada. So why in the ******* is Parallels telling me that there is? "My Boot Camp" isn't even a VM that I use
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Parallels 3 installed, mostly to run MS Money. Last night I installed Snow Leopard, unaware that Parallels 3 is not compatible. It appears that I need to go out and buy Parallels 4 as that will work with Snow Leopard.
My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.
I have this MBP 13'' Mac OS X 10.7.5 running a 2.4GHz i5, 4GB RAMs and 500GB storage. The problem started yesterday when I was typing on Word and I copy pasted something from the net (chrome browser) then it froze.I waited for around 5minutes and still frozen with the spinning wheel, then I decided to turn it off by pressing power for 10 seconds restarted my
MBP then now it running so slow on start-up and apps are very slow to open like around 5 minutes. Every action that I try to do like clicking on the apple in the upper left it freezes showing a spinning wheel and it will take time to show the drop down options. I checked disk utility and it said that HD is ok, done verify/permission verify and repair.
I checked the activity monitor noting the ram/CPU usage and its normal it even tells that 2GB of ram is not use.It shows not responding in the activity monitor if you open an app for around 5mins then it opens or it will crash.I already done the 2 kinds of reset and did not work.BUT it opens normally in Safe mode.

I just bought a new iMac last night, I am finally leaving the PC world. I need to install a OS for parallels since I have alot of PC programs I need to run. I have ran thru the paralells set up and installed a windows xp sp1 home edition cd when prompted but it will not load properly. The XP install disc is a disk I got with an older Dell laptop. And it says for distribution with Dell computers only. I starts to load, I input my activation code and it starts to install.
The first few times it got hung up saying that it is installing and will take 39 minutes to complete but just sat there for hours. Now its missing some line of code. O well I have to get a new copy of XP I guess. Here is the issue, I must have XP with nothing new then SP2. When I run sp3 my CAD program (softplan) cannot print to scale. They said its a problem with sp3 and I would have to upgrade V14 to fix this issue. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get this current XP sp1 to load, or can I get an XP sp2. Everything I find is preloaded sp3.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8A306) I am waiting to purchase a new Mac Pro, when I do, I still need to run some win apps (non games via Parallels). What impacts to the speed of these would one likely see? I plan to spec my new MP with the fastest single chip processor, fastest CPU, and at least 8 gigs ram. Config advice also welcome.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed bootcamp on my machine. I didn't think I would need to run both osx and xp at the same time but parallels is looking good to me right now. Since I already installed xp via boot camp, can I just download parallels from their site and be able to run both OS's at the same time, I could not find this information on their site.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEver since I upgraded to 10.6 (clean install from Leopard), Ive noticed a strange but irritating issue here, it happens with several sites but here is an example:
MBP: Safari and Firefox: I cannot browse to [URL:...]
MBP: Parallels running XP: no problems going to [URL:..]
ok.. my old XP laptop as a last resort: no problems at all.
So what could be happening here, and what could I do about it. Tried rebooting my Macbook Pro 15" and AEBS and ADSL router.
I edit using Lightroom and Photoshop and I'm having an issue while editing. After editing around 8-10 photos in Photoshop the computer starts running unbelievably slow. After each 8-10 photos I have to close down everything and reboot. Even the reboot process is super slow as I have to force quit each application usually 1-2 times to get it to close. Is this normal? I have a 2011 17" with 2.2 GHZ i7 with 8GB ram. Is there any setting that I can change or be aware of.

View 4 Replies View RelatedDo I have to install a Windows 7/RC build on Bootcamp before I can use it with Parallels? Or if I already have it on bootcamp, I have to install it all over again with Parallels? And I was thinking of only having RC as my secondary OS until my Windows 7 disc comes. When that happens, do I just delete all my RC stuff from bootcamp to make room for Windows 7? I'd also lose all my documents and whatnot right since I can't upgrade to Windows 7 from an RC.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Late 2009 27" iMac. I'm running Parallels so I can use ACAD LT 2010. If I load a music CD without Parallels running, no problem: it loads and plays fine. As soon as I start Parallels (with Win XP Pro) the CD contents disappear from iTunes and a couple mp3's are all I get (listed from the XP side of things I guess...) I have checked the obvious things. The CD drive is set to share. Beyond that, I really can't come up with anything in my pocking around with settings.

View 2 Replies View RelatedParallels 5 on 10.6.2 has been extremely slow to launch for me. The icon will bounce in the dock for about minute, then hang for another a minute or two, then finally launch. Tried reinstalling, repairing permissions, etc. However, it seems that disabling the spotlight fixes the issue, so it's apparently related to that...but I don't want to have to disable spotlight.
