OS X :: Re Fsck-hfs Process At Start Up - How To Disable Speed Up Process

Sep 21, 2009

I have a Mac Pro with several raid array and single drives attached (1x Wiebetech RTX600 Raid 5 through SCSI; 1x CalDigit HDElement Raid 5 through miniSAS; 4x internal drives).Unfortunately, due to various reasons (electricity outtage and software crashes), I'm experiencing system crashes and need to hard re-start the system. Upon restart, I am able to boot back into Mac OS X, but sometimes one, or both of the raid arrays will not mount. However, after a period of 0.5 - 2 hours, the array would magically re-appear again. Sometimes this might even happen to internal drives that I had mounted inside the chassis of the Mac Pro.

OS X :: Good Process Explorer Equivalent - Monitor Process CPU And RAM

Feb 26, 2010

I am wondering if anyone knows of a good osx based alternative to Process Explorer on windows - what I'd like to be able to do is graph CPU and memory for a specific process and ideally see what network connections a specific process has open. atMonitor seems to do this pretty well generally, but not for specific processes (this is for monitoring a multiplayer flash game).

OS X :: How To Kill Mouse Acceleration In OS X

Nov 1, 2009

This works best with "How to speed up mouse tracking in OS X", found elsewhere in this forum.

Note that mouse acceleration in OS X cannot be terminated completely, unless you are using something like USB OVerdrive. Assuming you are not using or do not want to use USB overdrive or similarly complete solution, read on.

Download the source here:

[URL]

You'll get a Unix executable file. Open a Terminal window and drop the file onto it.

After "killmouseaccel", type "mouse" (without quotation marks), and make sure a space remains between the two words. Then hit enter.

Effect is immediate. Logging out or restarting will kill the effect, so you'll have to run it each time. You might be able to set it to an automatic script upon logging in. Something I haven't figured out yet.

Ideally, it's best to increase the mouse tracking speed first (using instructions I posted elsewhere in this forum), which should be permanent until you reset the speed in the actual mouse pref pane, and then run the executable to kill mouse acceleration.

Software :: Want To Kill PreferenceSyncClient?

Feb 28, 2010

...I'm just not sure if I should. It runs at least once an hour, making all kinds of HD noise, and I don't know why. Isn't PSC connected to MobileMe? Because I don't have a MobileMe account. The MobileMe icon also shows up in my menubar. I know I can command-drag it out, but I'd rather get to the root of this issue and stop PSC from running too, unless it's doing something else important. If it's only used by MobileMe, I can just "relocate" the app somewhere that OS X can't find it. But finding out how to turn it off smartly would be even better.

Hardware :: Two Macs Kill The Internet?

Feb 10, 2010

I have two macs an iMac and a MacBook. I use Earthlink, have a BritePort modem and a Linksys wireless router.Everything was fine. No problems. I was able to get online with the two computers with ease, then I had problems connecting last week.If I went directly through the modem to my MacBook I can connect, but I would lose the internet wireless intermittently throughout the day.Earthlink said everything was fine as far as signal reaching my modem. So I bought an Airport Extreme.

Both Macs connected wirelessly but then I'd lose internet whenever BOTH tried to get online.I would be working fine on my MacBook, but once my wife tries to get online with the iMac, it kicks us both off! If she's online on the iMac and I try to get online on the MacBook it kicks us off! This is what was happening with the Linksys too! I reconnected it, and it was only when both Macs accessed the internet that we both lost connection. It was working perfectly fine a week ago, nothing has changed, which is why I am baffled!

Applications :: Cannot Kill Or Force Quit A Program

Not in my startup processes either, but once I do a restart, it on cue starts running again. I have done some searching, but nothing has worked. Would anyone know how to kill this?

Software :: Macbook Pro Won't Boot / Will A PRAM Zap Kill My Windows Vista Hard Drive

Jan 21, 2009

Hi everyone, I have a big problem. Today, I noticed that my Macbook Pro was running a bit strangely, with some video being slow and stuff, so I restarted it while it was in Windows Vista through BootCamp. I came back about ten minutes later to see a black screen, and the computer still on. I don't know if it restarted or not. I tried hard resetting it countless times, and messing with the battery like letting it run dry and stuff, but whenever I keep turning it on, I hear the "dong" boot sound, but the screen doesn't turn on, ever.

No I'm wondering if a PRAM zap will help fix the problem, but I really don't want to lose the hard drive and the stuff I have on it. I have a TON of school and work files on there that I simply cannot afford to lose. Will a PRAM zap kill my Windows Vista hard drive or should I even go ahead with it? I really hope that I can fix this problem myself, because the nearest Apple Store (and Geek Squad place that supports Macs) is over 40 miles away, and I really need the stuff for school on Tuesday.

Applications :: Finding Batch Encoder

Sep 19, 2010

I was wondering if there is a good batch encoding program for videos. I am planning on encoding all of my movies to the new Apple TV format in preparation for the launch of it.

I know handbrake can queue files, but you have to add them one-by-one.

Are there any applications where I can just select all of my videos and then select Apple TV format and just let it run for a week or so to encode them all?

OS X :: How To Batch Rename Files With A Random Name

Apr 30, 2008

I have a digital photo frame to see my pictures, but it only plays photos secuencially, it can't be set on "shuffle". So if I could rename the photos with random names, then the effect would be the same, as I would be seeing them in "shuffle".

I know automator can rename files, and there are many many apps that also rename, but I haven't found one that can give the files a random name!

Applications :: Batch Renaming Files In OSX?

Mar 3, 2004

I've got a whole bunch of photos in various subfolders. Some of these photos have the same relative name (ie same file name but in different folders).

I would like to rename all these files like 000001.ext, 000002.ext etc, independently of file location so I can copy all the files back to one single folder (I can handle that bit in Terminal). There are many sub-folders so I need something recursive.

I've tried Renamer4Mac, but it isn't recursive. Does anyone know of a different app that would work, or even a terminal command/script/binary that would do the trick?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Batch Rename Of Avi Files?

Apr 15, 2012

I am looking for the solution to batch rename multiple avi files simply. In iphoto, I just select a bunch of image files and using the ctrl+Shift+CMD keyboard shortcut, I input the name something like 'boat_trip_kids' I get the files renamed instantly wiith or without the suffix of a number.Thing is,  how to do for vdo files ?I read a totorial and then tried using automator to do this but I have to input the name_of_the_file in the script construction. That's ok for hundreds of files but I will have many names to use for naming of small groups of files and this won't be practical. Is there some way I can achieve this in automator?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Software :: IPhoto 6 File Batch Rename?

Feb 12, 2006

I want to make sure that the file names in iPhoto are unique. For some reason, my digital camera was set to reset its file namer to start at IMG_0001 with every roll, so I have several dozen files with the same file names. Within iPhoto, it's generally not a problem, but if I need to work with a group of files outside of iPhoto, copy-dragging a bunch of photos across rolls to a single folder generally bombs out because of the conflicting file names. iPhoto doesn't seem to have any sort of file renamer at all, I can change the title, but that doesn't actually change the file name. I could and will now use the iPhoto exporter because it seems to do the trick, but sometimes that isn't as convenient as selecting a bunch of files and dropping them into my preferred folder.

Applications :: Metadata VLC / AVIDemux Batch Manipulation?

Aug 27, 2010

Having some issues with annoying Metadata in some AVI files. I just want to remove the title (as in what shows up in the VLC window when you have title info AND the file name) and the comments.

When I tried Metadata Hooteneany, it converted them all to .mov, I guess, so when I tried to reopen them, not only was the metadata still there, but there was no audio.

When I used VLC to "Window">"Media Information..." and delete the metadata and "Save Metadata"'d, it did nothing when I reopened the file. Metadata was still there.

Applications :: Searching For A Picture Batch Editor?

Aug 20, 2010

I recently switched 99% to a mac and im having a very hard time to find an alternative software like "PhotoScape" on windows!

I print a list of applications i use on windows and started searching for alternatives!

I find everything i needed except that! I looked in to many many forums (inc here)... tested more than 50 software but no luck at all!

Free or commercial doesnt matter! The only link between me and my PC is photoscape and this is killing me!

A full noisy tower - 100 cables everywhere just for running one app. (winebottler wont run it normally)

What exactly im looking for (for those of you who dont know "PhotoScape")

Is a multi batch editor for pictures with "preset" feature. (not a photo organizer or something like iphoto)

I want to be able to add lets say 10 images, load the xxx partner preset
and.. (auto action for that specific preset)

<example>
- resize them with max width 600px
- place a watermark with the name of the partner to a specific location on the image. text watermark with outline color and basic text tools predifined for each preset
- rename them like "partner-01" - "partner-02" - "partner-03" etc etc
-export them in Jpeg format with quality 80 to a subfolder called "partner-xxx" inside the folder with the originals.

OS X Server :: Equivalent Of PC Batch File Needed

Aug 10, 2005

I am running two Xservers, one of them, our primary open directory server also hosts a roaming profile folder. I need to create some type of script or program that would allow me to make a daily copy of that folder on the second Xserver. In the PC world, this would be easily done through a batch file, and simply setting it up as a scheduled task, but I am not sure how to go about it in a MAC environment.
