Software :: Using XHTML To Develop Websites Instead Of HTML?
Nov 30, 2007
Are there any major benefits to using XHTML to develop websites instead of HTML? I get the feeling XHTML is "the future" of web development, and if so, I will use WebDesign, but if there is no real benefit then I will go with Coda.

Can I use a Power Mac G4 to develop iPhone applications? I have a 400 mhz Power Mac with 512 meg of RAM and a 20 gig HD. Is this enough to run the OS that the iPhone SDK requires. I have a .dmg file that is named iphone_sdk_3.1.2_with_xcode_3.1.2_snow_leopard_10m2003.dmg. Will this G4 run Snow Leopard effectively or at all? Am I barking up the wrong tree with this old dog ? I'd rather know now so I don't waste my time chasing my tail and instead get the right hardware and software to get going with this.

I've got an idea for an application that will expand upon the idea of a "shared network drive". Initial release will not include a "web app" per se, it would only include computers connected to the same network. Long-term though I would like to have a web interface similar to that of DropBox. What sort of technologies would I need in order to implement this? Objective-C? Things like, "right-click" menu modification, accessing hard-drives of other computers on the network running the same application.

Mine is bulging out at the bottom of the screen, right by that area that gets burning hot when you are plugged in or are on the 9600m gt--right where is says "Macbook Pro".
I noticed that the hinge started to develop a creaking sound when I opened and closed the lid. So I investigated to see if there were any cracks in the hinge. What I found was that if you look at the space between the bezel and the screen, there is a slight (very slight) bulge right by the wording "Macbook pro". If you press down on it, it moves--unlike the rest of the bezel.
Anyone else notice this? I am pretty sure it is caused by the heat in that area. That is a really poor design.

When making a website, say from scratch, I'm looking for a HTML editor.
For ex. when working with IE and you right-click > view source and the notepad pops up.
I'm looking for something along those lines for a Mac, that way I can get some practice in etc etc.
What program would you recommend?

I am trying to create an email newsletter using Entourage 2008 for Mac. I've been searching everywhere for the past hour and can't figure it out. I can create an html page displaying what I want in the e-mail very easily, however I don't know how to get it into the e-mail. Do I need to pay for a service for this or what?

So I typed up some simple html code in text edit and saved it as an html file. However, when I preview it in firefox or safari it only shows the code. I even tried saving the code in word as an html file and it does the same thing.
This is my code...very simple:
<html>
<body>
<h1> Carly Krysak</h1>
<p>Marketing Director</p>
<h2>Frank's Auto Supermarket</h2>
<p>P: 724.430.2000</p>
<p>F: 724.438.5990</p>
<a href="http://tiny.cc/FbWeSpeakCar">Facebook</a>
<a href="www.autosupermarket.com">Website</a>
<a href="www.GrindingGearsBlog.com">Blog</a>
</body>
</html>
I'd like to use this code to create a custom signature for my email so I thought maybe it's just having a problem previewing and I followed the steps to use the code for my signature and it also just shows the html.

I have used a free program called mi 2.1.6 which does a nice job of highlighting tags, but has been unsupported for a few years now. I was wondering if there was anything better out there - free, donationware, or paid - that anyone feels is a great program worth trying ?
I have done a bit of research already, and came up with this article http://mac360.com/index.php/mac360/comments/faceoff_which_is_the_best_text_editor_ever/
Anyone have a personal favorite ?

Is it me or Safari 5 on Windows has no support for the <video> element? I did an HTML 5 test on this page [URL:..] and it scored 165 but it scored none in video. I tried Vimeo on HTML 5 and videos wont play. Is it simply disabled? If it is where can I enable it?

I need some helping doing some (hopefully) simple HTML editing on my customized Google homepage. Basically, what I'm looking to do is shorten the width of the search bar as shown in the attached screenshot. As far as right-clicking "Inspect Element" on the search bar itself, I'm totally lost as to what to put in the editing window that appears and where/how to do it.

I'm switching from Thunderbird to Mail.app. How do I disable HTML email?
According to Apple, it can be done by following these directions, however the option it mentions ("Display images and embedded objects in HTML messages") is not available. The only thing I see is "Display remote images in HTML messages," which I have unchecked, but HTML email is still coming through just without the images.

Using Apple Mail, is there any way to compose mail in HTML, where the font used to compose won't be overwritten by the default plain text font in the recipient's inbox?
Basically, I want the emails I send to look exactly like they do when they're on my screen, not reformatted to a plain text.

I just recently got a new Mac Book Pro and am trying to learning HTML. When I open up a HTML file that's located on my computer to view how it looks using firefox and safari it just shows the code. I have opened up the same files on my windows computer using Firefox and IE and they display correctly.I'm new to the Mac OS so I'm not sure if its a setting that I need to change or if I'm going about it incorrectly but any help would be much appreciated. I've also duel booted windows and I get the same results.

I have created a decent Pages document that I will be mailing out, but I also have the need to email it to my clients and maybe post it to a webpage. I know I can save the doc as a PDF and send it that way, but I was wondering if there is a way to convert the file to HTML and use that in my email and website. Anyone have a tool or tip on how to do that?
My Pages document has a small table of data and a graph.
It would take me a long time to convert by hand in some other HTML editor as I am not good at that.
